Lunenburg Visit Part 2 of 2 with the Baird Family in Beautiful Nova Scotia Canada
Lunenburg Part 2 of 2 has a very nautical theme, starting with a slap up seafood meal in the Old Fish Factory restaurant, followed by a look around the museum and a stroll along the dock to see the beautiful schooner Bluenose II which famously appears on the Canadian dime coin. Also at berth were the vessels Cape Sable and Theresa E. Connor.
We wind-up the trip with a short walk to the Ironworks Distillery. A great day was had by all!

Raging Crow Distillery – Nova Scotia distillery prides itself on local wares
Jill Linquist fell into the distilling business by chance, and found a love she didn’t know existed.
She now runs Raging Crow Distillery in North River, N.S., but she would have never expected to end up in the industry.
“My husband and I have a small hobby vineyard. We grow grapes and sell to Benjamin Bridge for their Nova7. We took wine tours each year, and in June 2016 we went on an Okanagan wine tour,” she said.
“We stopped at Legends Distilling, and a young lady from Lunenburg gave our tour. We were pretty amazed at everything,” she said.
By July 2017, Linquist wanted to make a go of it, and called retiring Dal professor Kris Pruski to be a business partner.
“He taught small fruits, and he jumped at the chance. We looked at equipment and the costs, formulated a business plan, and incorporated in September 2017.”

2016 Nova Scotia Culinary Ambassadors - Pierre Guevremont & Lynne MacKay, Ironworks Distillery
CULINARY AMBASSADORS OF THE YEAR - 2016 Taste of Nova Scotia Awards
Inspired initially by a fortuitous and timely inflight magazine article on distilling – Pierre & Lynne decided to start their own business in Lunenburg in 2009 – based on the following key principles:
- To create products from scratch and to learn all the aspects of the business: to control the fermentation, the distillations, the barrel aging and infusing.
- To source all raw ingredients in Nova Scotia, to take advantage of the bountiful agricultural output of this province.
- To maximize the number of direct and indirect jobs that could be created. Firmly believing that “Made in Nova Scotia = Jobs in Nova Scotia.”
Their passion, drive and innovation is contagious. Together they have created a local-inspired, artisanal business that celebrates the local community and Nova Scotia - while sharing our passion and local products with the world.

Liquor Entrepreneur Plays it Smart with Canada Revenue Agency’s Excise Duty Laws
If a visit from the taxman is enough to strike fear into the heart of the average Canadian, imagine the reaction for a micro-distillery in Lunenburg when the excise officer knocks on your door. Fortunately, Ironworks’ owner Pierre Guevremont had everything in order. This film enabled us to record at this unique location, and shine a light on one of CRA’s roles.
When Journeyman was presented with the opportunity to produce this video content for the Canada Revenue Agency, we saw that it was a project that could bring two important elements together: first, there was the video’s intended role as an explainer for an important piece of our country’s tax laws, and secondly, it was an opportunity to put that educational message out into the world while also profiling an inspiring local entrepreneur and Nova Scotian business.
For more information about the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the organization which administers tax laws for the Government of Canada and for most provinces and territories, visit them here:

Town of Lunenburg
Lunenburg is a port town on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. Founded in 1753, the town was one of the first British attempts to settle Protestants in Nova Scotia in an effort to displace the French colonial Roman Catholic Acadians and indigenous Mi'kmaq.
Through the nineteenth and well into the twentieth centuries, Lunenburg became famous for the quality of its schooners, which fishermen sailed to the fish-rich Grand Banks off Newfoundland and the Western Bank off Sable Island. The queen of the schooner era was the famous Bluenose, launched at Lunenburg in 1921.
