Chowk town lies on NH4 that connects Panvel with Karjat. Chowk also has a train station (Station code CHOK) . (Pune - Bhusaval express) stops at Chowk train station. From Chowk, Nanivali village (the starting point of this trek) is a comfortable 2.3 kilometres walk. From Nanivali village you follow a wide well defined path till Irshalwadi village. The path climbs a steep ridge and then tapers to an easy ascend till Irshalwadi. From Irshalwadi village head towards a temple dedicated to a local deity and access the Irshalgad plateau via a west-east axis. The trek is child friendly till the pinnacle base.

One Tree Hill Trek, Matheran - best monsoon trek near Mumbai | Trekking in Sahyadris | Part 42
Matheran at 800 m (2,625 ft)is a popular hill station, accessible by road and train. It's around 100 km from Mumbai. Matheran is a protected forest area. Main mode of transport is hand-pulled rickshaws and horses. British-style architecture has been preserved in Matheran and most structures are now heritage structures. Matheran has been declared an eco-sensitive region by the Union Environment Ministry (GoI) and is home to diverse flora and fauna. There are also several rare species like the Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, White-Rumped Shama, Brown Wood Owl, South Indian Tree Shrew, and The Giant Squirrel. It is also home to a wide range of snakes, from the harmless ones to deadly and venomous snakes.
The trail to One tree hill from Ambewadi is also called the Shivaji ladder route. Midway through the trail near the end of the thick forest, you come across a mass of boulders and rocks into which the trail disappears. This is known as Shivaji Steps or the Shivaji Ladder. According to local legend, Shivaji rode up this route on horseback. From here, it’s 500m to the top, up a stream bed that’s dry except during the monsoon.

Irshalgad is a fortress located between Matheran and Panvel , Raigad, Maharashtra India.
We can reach the Irshalgad via Panvel to Khopoli through Bus, auto-rickshaw or train. Nearby place Chowk Railway Station, from there we move further to Karja Village. From Karja Village it takes distance of 2 to 3 kilometres to reach the Irshalwadi Village. We trek the Irshalgad fortress on 23/07/2017, on that day climate was extremely dangerous. Heavy rainfall with winds , clouds, make our trek very harsh. We spend almost 2.15 hrs to reach at the top of the Irshalgad. Beside the Irshalgad Morbe Dam which is main source of water for the Navi Mumbai City. We can see the view of Prabalgad from the Irshalgad. Always take the precaution during the monsoon because most of the trek regions are slippery. Also avoid climbing the top of the fortress during the monsoon.
