Ise Jingu Grand Shrine - Naiku The Inner Shrine, Ise City
Ise Jingu Grand Shrine (伊勢神宮) is one of the most important and sacred Shinto Shrines in Japan. It is located in Ise City (伊勢市) of Mie Prefecture. In fact there are two parts of this shrine, one is called Naiku or the inner shrine (内宮), second is the Geku, or the outer shrine (外宮).
This video depicts the Naiku or the inner shrine and the main worshiped deity in this shrine is Amaterasu-Omikami or the Sun Goddess. The main worshipped area is out of bounds for cameras, so this video goes only up to the outer areas of the Shrine's main worship hall.

壮大な自然に囲まれた伊勢神宮の門前町「伊勢」は、魅力的な歴史文化、美味しい食材、そしてあたたかいおもてなしで、皆様をお出迎えいたします。
Ise Jingu is an ancient Shinto shrine over 2000 years old and considered to be Japan's
religious and spiritual center.
Ise City and Ise Jingu are a destination for almost 7 million visitors a year, most of
whom come to pay respects to Japan's ancestry and to pray for peace, safety andprosperity.
With its beautiful natural, history and the abundance of delicious food, Ise City
represents traditional Japan at its best.
As the gateway and hub city to the Ise Shima area, the city of Ise plays an important
regional role.
Visiting Ise Jingu, part 1: the Outer Shrine
People have been visiting Ise Jingu from all over Japan for well over 1000 years. Originally it was pilgrims drawn to the most sacred site in Shinto, the indigenous Japanese religion. Today, mostly tourists drawn to serene atmosphere of the shrine area, as well as the historical hospitality district adjacent to the shrine. Or has it always been some combination of the two? Let's ponder that question on the walk from Ise-shi station to Geku -- the outher shine. Once there, you can experience the proper way to visit a Shinto shrine, while enjoying the peaceful energy of the surrounding forest.

Visiting the Ise Grand Shrine (伊勢神宮 Ise Jingū)
The Ise Grand Shrine is a Shinto shrine complex that is made up of multiple shrines mainly in two locations. Legend has it that it was founded around 2,000 years ago, but the first known building of a shrine in the area occurred in 692, so still a long time ago! Although the grounds are ancient, the buildings are rebuilt every twenty years, as part of the Shinto belief about the death and renewal of nature and the impermanence of all things (wabi-sabi) and as a way of passing building techniques from one generation to the next (source:

Ise Shrine - Japan
Nov 2007
Sacred logs are being hauled hundreds of kilometres upriver to rebuild the Ise shrine.
The shrine has been at the centre of the Shinto faith for over 1,300 years. Believers think the spirit of the sun goddess lives there and that it's the spiritual home of the Japanese royal family.

Ise Jingu - Toyouke Dai Jingu [Geku]
Jingu is often introduced in the dictionary as Ise Jingu. However, the official name is Jingu without Ise. Jingu is principally composed of the Naiku where Amaterasu Omikami, the ancestral kami of the Imperial Family, is worshiped, and Geku where Toyouke Omikami, the kami of agriculture and industry, is worshiped. Geku is the alternative name for Toyouke Dai Jingu, the sanctuary that is located in the center of Ise city. Toyouke Omikami has founded in the 22nd Years(453)of the reign of Emperor Yuryaku. Emperor Yuryaku had a dream of Amaterasu Omikami in which the deity revealed that she could not properly secure her meals and therefore asked the Emperor to bring Toyouke Omikami from Tanba to take care of her food. After awaking from the dream, the Emperor built a magnificent dwelling place and brought Toyouke Omikami here. Since then, at the Mikeden, the sacred Dining Hall for the kami in the Sanctuary, the dedication of the sacred food to Amaterasu Omikami has without fall been ceremoniously conducted twice a day both in the morning and the evening, since the foundation of the Geku(refer to Higoto-asayu-noomikesai ceremony). Throughout the year, the rites at the Geku are conducted in the same way as at the Naiku.

Drink fruit juice from whole fruit ― Ise Oharaimachi Street
Walking around Oharaimachi Street, you’ll see a lot of people carrying fruit such as oranges and grapefruits with straws inserted. Choose an orange or grapefruit from the piles at the shop front and hand it over. They’ll cut the fruit on the spot, juice the entire thing, insert a straw, and hand it back. Perfect for a parched throat as you walk about town.
