Japan after the 2011 Earthquake -- how it looks like -- Iseshi, Mie-ken, Japan (6/7)
This is one of the seven video clips during a professor's visit to Japan in March 2011, a few days after the Earthquake & Tsunami hit northeastern Japan on 03/11/2011. I just wanted to share how it looked like to be in Japan in March 2011 as you do rarely see normal life in Japan. This is one of the popular tourists' spot at Ise-Jingu, Ise-city, Mie Prefecture, Japan. If you see Japanese cartoons like Naruto, you can see familiar views of typical old town in Japan.
Yamanashi Iyashi no Sato - いやしの里 - 4K Ultra HD
Yamanashi Iyashi no Sato - いやしの里 - 4K Ultra HD : Destroyed by a landslide in 1966, Iyashi no Sato was a former village located near Lake Saiko and in front of Mt. Fuji. It was only in 2000 that some former villagers and the city hall, decided to rebuild the place into a magnificent open air museum. Here people can not only enjoy some of village’s oldest artefact but also art, craftwork and traditional Japanese sweets and food.
Despite being 100% tourist oriented, the Iyashi no Sato is really a nice little village that needs to be visited if you are traveling around Mt Fuji.

Kyoto Yoshimine-Dera - 善峯寺 - 4K Ultra HD
Note : This version replace the previously uploaded video of the Yoshimine-Dera temple. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Kyoto Yoshimine-Dera - 善峯寺 - 4K Ultra HD : Yoshimie-dera or Yoshimiedera (善峯寺) is a temple of the Tendai school of Buddishm located in the mountains of Kyoto's western ward of Nishikyō-ku which overlooks the city.
Established in 1029 as a personal retreat for a priest from Enryakuji, named Gesan, Yoshimie-dera was destroyed in 1467 during the Omin war and later rebuilt in 1621. The temple's main objects of worship are a Kannon statue carved by Gesan himself and a Kannon statue given to the temple by Emperor Gosuzaku in 1042.
Surprisingly unpopular among foreign tourists, Yoshimie-dera is an amazing and spacious temple featuring many buildings and protected by a surrounding forest that, once a year in autumn, give you one of Kyoto’s most amazing scenes.

Ishikawa Mitsukejima - 見附島 - 4K Ultra HD
Ishikawa Mitsukejima - 見附島 - 4K Ultra HD : Located on the opposite side of Wajima on the Noto peninsula, Mitsukejima is an small, uninhabited island (150m long, 50m wide and 30m tall) famous for its unique shape. Also known as Gunkanjima “Battleship Island” because of its shape, this island has no link whatsoever with the other famous island named Gunkanjima, located in Nagasaki.
According to local folklore, Mitsukejima was named by a local monk and artist, Kūkai (774–835), who was apparently the first person to discover this island when travelling from Sado Island.

Noh
Noh or Nogaku - derived from the Japanese word for skill or talent - is a major form of classical Japanese musical drama that has been performed since the 14th century. Many characters are masked, with men playing male and female roles. Traditionally, a Noh performance day lasts all day and consists of five Noh plays interspersed with shorter, humorous kyōgen pieces. However, present-day Noh performances often consist of two Noh plays with one Kyogen play in between.
While the field of Noh performance is extremely codified, and regulated by the iemoto system, with an emphasis on tradition rather than innovation, some performers do compose new plays or revive historical ones that are not a part of the standard repertoire. Works blending Noh with other theatrical traditions have also been produced.
Together with the closely related kyogen farce, Noh evolved from various popular, folk and aristocratic art forms, including Dengaku, Shirabyoshi, and Gagaku.
Kanami and his son Zeami Motokiyo brought Noh to what is essentially its present-day form during the Muromachi period (1336 to 1573) under the patronage of the powerful Ashikaga clan, particularly the third shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. It would later influence other dramatic forms such as Kabuki and Butoh. During the Meiji era, although its governmental patronage was lost, Noh and kyogen received official recognition as two of the three national forms of drama.

Kyoto walk - Kinkakuji (金閣寺) - 4K
In this video we’ll show you Kinkakuji (金閣寺), Kyoto.
Its famous Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku)—actually a pagoda made to house the sacred relics of the Buddha—has given this temple the popular name of Kinkaku-ji (“Temple of the Golden Pavilion”), however the official name of this branch temple of the Rinzai-sect Zen temple of Shokoku-ji is Rokuon-ji. The temple was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
During the Kamakura period (1185-1333), this land was the site of a villa of the aristocrat Saionji Kintsune, known as Kitayamadai. During the Muromachi period (1392-1573), however, it caught the attention of the third Ashikaga shogun Yoshimitsu (1358-1408), who took over the site from the Saionji family in order to build his own villa, which he called Kitayamadono. This complex, whose gardens and architecture focused around a central Golden Pavilion, was said to evoke paradise on earth and was the destination of such esteemed visitors as Emperor Gokomatsu (r. 1392-1412), father of the Zen priest Ikkyû. The estate also became the center of the so-called “Kitayama culture,” which was central in importing various aspects of Ming-dynasty Chinese culture into Japanese society, thanks to increased trade relations with Japan’s continental neighbor.
After Yoshimitsu’s death, the villa was turned into a temple according to his will, with Musô Sôseki (also known as Musô Kokushi, 1275-1351) becoming its first abbot. The name Rokuon-ji was taken from the first two characters of Yoshimitsu’s posthumous name.
