EGYPT: Nile Cruise & Ancient Monuments (Luxor, Aswan, Giza)
Impression of Egypt along the Nile. More videos of the 7-day Nile Cruise:
Egyptian civilization have depended on the river Nile since ancient times. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along the Nile valley north of Aswan. Silt deposits from the Nile made the surrounding land fertile because the river overflowed its banks annually. The Ancient Egyptians cultivated and traded wheat, flax, papyrus and other crops around the Nile. The Nile was also a convenient and efficient means of transportation for people and goods. Nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along river banks.
The Nile was an important part of ancient Egyptian spiritual life and considered to be a causeway from life to death and the afterlife. The east was thought of as a place of birth and growth, and the west was considered the place of death. Thus, all tombs were west of the Nile, because the Egyptians believed that in order to enter the afterlife, they had to be buried on the side that symbolized death.

For more detailed information about each monument see the description of each individual video. Except for:
The Colossi of Memnon (51:16) are two massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who reigned in Egypt during the Dynasty XVIII. For the past 3,400 years (since 1350 BC), they have stood in the Theban Necropolis, located west of the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor. Two shorter figures are carved into the front throne alongside his legs: these are his wife Tiye and mother Mutemwiya. The side panels depict the Nile god Hapy.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities (55:30), known commonly as the Egyptian Museum, in Cairo-Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. It houses the world's largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities.
Part of the collection will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum set to open in 2020. It will house Tutankhamun's complete collection of between 4000 and 5000 artefacts, many of which are undergoing restoration and have never been displayed; the vast collection we have viewed at the old museum represents only about a third of the whole. The Grand Egyptian Museum is located on 50 hectares at Giza, two kilometres from the Grand Pyramids. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo will remain open.

EGYPT 227 - MEMPHIS *MIT RAHINA* II - (by Egyptahotep)
MEMPHIS was the administrative capital of ancient Egypt, which has its historical roots dating back as far as the Early Dynastic Period. The origin of the foundation was by the mythical first king, Menes (Narmer), who is said to have united Upper and Lower Egypt for the first time around 3100 BC. Traditionally Menes was thought to have enclosed his city within white mudbrick walls which gave it the ancient name of 'Inbw-hedj',(means 'White Fortress')
Today the site centres around the modern village of Mit Rahina on the west bank of the Nile, 24km south of Cairo and is reduced to a small museum and an enclosure where statues are exhibited. Most of the existing remains date to the New Kingdom
The most impressive is the colossal statue of Rameses II is a twin to the statue which for decades was erected in Cairo. The museum piece is only a fragment, but even without its lower legs it measures nearly thirteen metres and once stood with its companion outside the Temple of Ptah at Memphis. The museum grounds display other statues of Rameses II, including one of red granite which once lay behind the museum but has now been erected at the eastern end of the garden. The other main monument is The Alabaster Sphinx of the New Kingdom. To the west of the museum enclosure the visitor can also see several embalming tables from the 'House of the Apis Bulls'. These animals were sacred to the god Ptah and after living out a pampered life, were ritually mummified and placed to rest with great ceremony in the Serapeum at Saqqara. The calcite embalming tables are over five metres long and the embalming house dates to Shoshenq I of Dynasty XXII, though probably replacing an earlier structure.

EGYPT 276 - The EGYPTIAN STELES - (by Egyptahotep)
The Steles were vertical structures of stone or wood, of many different shapes, usually with inscriptions, reliefs or paintings.
In ancient Egypt, steles were erected most frequently as tombstones and as boundary markers, but also as Votive and commemorative monuments. From the 1st dynasty the earliest steles were used in Egypt until Roman times, there was a considerable change in the shape of steles, the decoration and the types of inscriptions took place. As tombstones, they were originally erected outside the tombs, to mark the offering place and to name the tomb owner. Those traditions hold over into our modern times, with the offerings now most often being replaced with flowers. In temples and sanctuaries, they were set up by individuals to worship the gods, but also to commemorate special events, such as successful expeditions to the mines in the desert or victories over foreign powers. In addition to their funerary and votive uses, stelae were also used as boundary markers for fields, estates, administrative districts or even countries, you can see examples of these different kind of steles in this video

There is no shortage neukkigien at the time of grandeur, though. Temple looked into the net. Inside was filled with colored reliefs. This time of 2,000 years, even though the color has been spilled alive. The coloring of Den Dera Temple itdanda remains the most vivid of all the temples of Egypt. Painted ceiling is more colorful. This figure is a long story in one chapter each myth will be imbued. There is also a central part of the sun yen. Cleopatra was like other Egyptians worshiped the sun. Even a number of rooms in the temple is full of pictures. I went to catch up with the ushers. Basement is long and narrow like a maze. Does Cleopatra had foreseen his fate.
