EGYPT: Nile Cruise & Ancient Monuments (Luxor, Aswan, Giza)
Impression of Egypt along the Nile. More videos of the 7-day Nile Cruise:
Egyptian civilization have depended on the river Nile since ancient times. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along the Nile valley north of Aswan. Silt deposits from the Nile made the surrounding land fertile because the river overflowed its banks annually. The Ancient Egyptians cultivated and traded wheat, flax, papyrus and other crops around the Nile. The Nile was also a convenient and efficient means of transportation for people and goods. Nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along river banks.
The Nile was an important part of ancient Egyptian spiritual life and considered to be a causeway from life to death and the afterlife. The east was thought of as a place of birth and growth, and the west was considered the place of death. Thus, all tombs were west of the Nile, because the Egyptians believed that in order to enter the afterlife, they had to be buried on the side that symbolized death.

For more detailed information about each monument see the description of each individual video. Except for:
The Colossi of Memnon (51:16) are two massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who reigned in Egypt during the Dynasty XVIII. For the past 3,400 years (since 1350 BC), they have stood in the Theban Necropolis, located west of the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor. Two shorter figures are carved into the front throne alongside his legs: these are his wife Tiye and mother Mutemwiya. The side panels depict the Nile god Hapy.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities (55:30), known commonly as the Egyptian Museum, in Cairo-Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. It houses the world's largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities.
Part of the collection will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum set to open in 2020. It will house Tutankhamun's complete collection of between 4000 and 5000 artefacts, many of which are undergoing restoration and have never been displayed; the vast collection we have viewed at the old museum represents only about a third of the whole. The Grand Egyptian Museum is located on 50 hectares at Giza, two kilometres from the Grand Pyramids. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo will remain open.

EGYPT & JORDAN | Ep1: Solo Backpacking Egypt
Solo backpacking through Egypt in the first leg of my month long trip as I travel through Egypt & Jordan.
Egypt & Jordan are undoubtedly on most people's travel bucket lists, but I've always had the impression that the majority of people travel there on an organised tour.
So I wanted to give it a go by myself and see what it was like treating it like a normal backpacking trip, staying at hostel and booking everything on the go.
This first episode covers the 3 weeks I spent solo travelling around Egypt.
Starting out in Cairo, I visited the Great Pyramids at Giza as well as exploring Islamic Cairo.
Then I took the train down to Aswan, visited Abu Simbel before boarding a 2 day cruise on the Nile to Luxor.
At Luxor I visited the Valley of the Kings, Karnak and other temples.
Then I went snorkelling and scuba diving in the Red Sea at Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and Dahab.

Pyramisa Isis Island, Aswan, Egypt
We arrive at our hotel in Aswan after a 13 hr. long train ride along the Nile. We were able to sneak on the NON TOURIST train with a little help from the locals. We prefer to travel along with the locals & during the day time so we could see the views along the Nile. The TOURIST train is a sleeper one that only runs at night. We did that one on our return to Cairo 4 days later.

EGYPT: Philae Temple / Temple of Isis - Aswan
The temple complex of Philae was originally build on Philae, an island in the reservoir of the Aswan Low Dam (Lake Nasser), Egypt. Since the initial construction of the Aswan Low Dam in 1902, the area have been flooded so the temple complex was dismantled, piece by piece, and moved to the nearby Agilkia Island as part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign project, protecting this and other complexes before the 1970 completion of the Aswan High Dam.
Although there are several temples and buildings located on Philae, the largest and the most famous is the Temple of Isis. Here, the ancient Egyptians worshiped the goddess Isis as well as Osiris and Horus (her son).
The Temples of Philae were venerated from the Pharaonic era through the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods with each ruler making their own additions to the stones here.

Philae Temple in Aswan Egypt - Temple of ISIS
Philae (/ˈfaɪli/; Greek: Φιλαί, Arabic: فيله Egyptian Arabic: [fiːlæ], Egyptian: p3-jw-rķ' or 'pA-jw-rq; Coptic: ⲡⲓⲗⲁⲕ, ⲡⲓⲗⲁⲕⲭ[1]) is an island in the reservoir of the Aswan Low Dam, downstream of the Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser, Egypt. Philae was originally located near the expansive First Cataract of the Nile in Upper Egypt and was the site of an Egyptian temple complex. These rapids and the surrounding area have been variously flooded since the initial construction of the Aswan Low Dam in 1902. The temple complex was dismantled and moved to nearby Agilkia Island as part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign project, protecting this and other complexes before the 1970 completion of the Aswan High Dam.

Egypt: Aswan and the Philae Temple
Aswan and the Philae Temple
DAY 4
CAIRO to Aswan: Philae Temple & the High Dam
Our Lady Egypt Tours representative met and transferred us to the airport for our flight from Cairo to Aswan.
We enjoyed a visit the impressive Temple of Philae.
The Temple of Philae has a long and interesting history: built in honor of the goddess Isis and the birth of her son, Horus.
Horus’s father - Osiris - was killed by his brother (Set) and cut into pieces and spread all over the land. Isis set out to find the pieces and when she found them she Use them to birth her son, Horus (the Falcon God), out of revenge.
The temple itself was defaced first by Set followers and then later by the Christian Missionaries.
After the building of the High Dam, the temple was flooded. A concrete wall was built around the temple and it was moved painstakingly brick by brick to where it sits today.
