TAJIKISTAN ISKANDERKUL
Iskanderkul is a mountain lake of glacial origin in Tajikistan's Sughd Province. It lies at an altitude of 2,195 metres (7,201 ft) on the northern slopes of the Gissar Range in the Fann Mountains. Triangular in shape, it has a surface area of 3.4 square kilometres (1.3 sq mi) and is up to 72 metres (236 ft) deep. It was formed by the congestion of the Saratogh river. It is 134 km from Dushanbe and 23 km from the Dushanbe—Khujand road.[1]
The lake takes its name from Alexander the Great: Iskander is the Persian pronunciation of Alexander, and kul is lake in Tajik.
The outflow of the lake is the Iskander Darya, which joins the Yaghnob River to form the Fan Darya, a major left tributary of the Zeravshan River.

Welcome To Iskandarkul, Tajikistan
We will venture into another beautiful lake, a mountain lake of glacial origin in Tajikistan. It is Iskanderkul in the Sughd province of Tajikistan. As the lake is a mountain lake so you will be delighted to know that the lake is situated at a whopping height of 2,195 meters in the Fann mountains. Iskanderkul Lake is quite popular among tourists because of its high scenic value. The lake is not far away from Dushanbe as the distance is only 134 KM. Fann mountain is quite a beautiful place to explore and Iskanderkul lake here in the Fann mountain is a sort of must-see place in Tajikistan.
Dimensions of the lake are like this, length around 2850 m, width around 70 m, depth 72 m with an area of 3.5 square KM. The water of the lake remains cool during summers and even if you love swimming you should restrain from swimming here because it is risky as the lake lives with melting glaciers and the glacier is only at a distance of few kilometers. Lake and its surrounding area have been designated as a nature reserve. The habitats in and around lakes are rivers, water meadows, forests, subalpine meadows, and mountains. Local wildlife is another attraction point of this lake. Half of the reserve area is identified as an important bird area. Because this area has a lot of bird species like Himalayan snowcocks, saker falcons, yellow-billed choughs, wallcreepers and more. The mysterious shapes of the mountain here grab your eyeballs and they may be scary to look at nights. So it would not be wrong if one says that one of the most attractive sightseeing places in Tajikistan is Iskanderkul Lake in the Fann mountains.
Cut to modern days, there is a tourist base on the shore of the lake with few chalets. And there is a waterfall not far away from the lake known as Niagra among locals which are formed by Iskanderdariya River. To enjoy seeing the fall there is also an observation deck for tourists where you can spend some time as well along with watching the waterfall.
So how to get to this Iskanderkul Lake in Tajikistan? You need to rent a taxi between Dushanbe or Khojand to the lake. There is no public transport and cars available to reach the lake. One adventurous way to reach to the lake is hiking from other places in the Fann mountains. So go to the Iskanderkul lake and enjoy camping there. Take a Tajikistan travel package and do visit the Iskanderkul lake.
Озеро Искандеркуль/Iskander-Kul Lake

The best place to visit in TAJIKISTAN
Fann Mountains (Tajik: Кӯҳҳои Фон, Uzbek: Fon togʻlari; also known as the Fanns) are part of the western Pamir-Alay mountain system and are primarily located in Tajikistan's Sughd Province between the Zarafshan Range to the north and the Gissar Range to the south.[1] In the east-west direction they extend from Fandarya River to Archimaydan River, and the cluster of Marguzor lakes west of Archimaydan is also included in the Fanns.

Tajikistan ( (listen), ; Tajik: Тоҷикистон [tɔdʒikisˈtɔn]), officially the Republic of Tajikistan (Tajik: Ҷумҳурии Тоҷикистон, Jumhuriyi Tojikiston), is a mountainous, landlocked country in Central Asia with an area of 143,100 km2 (55,300 sq mi) and an estimated population of 8.7 million people as of 2016. It is bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. The traditional homelands of the Tajik people include present-day Tajikistan as well as parts of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
The territory that now constitutes Tajikistan was previously home to several ancient cultures, including the city of Sarazm of the Neolithic and the Bronze Age, and was later home to kingdoms ruled by people of different faiths and cultures, including the Oxus civilisation, Andronovo culture, Buddhism, Nestorian Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism and Islam. The area has been ruled by numerous empires and dynasties, including the Achaemenid Empire, Sasanian Empire, Hephthalite Empire, Samanid Empire, Mongol Empire, Timurid dynasty, the Russian Empire, and subsequently the Soviet Union. Within the Soviet Union, the country's modern borders were drawn when it was part of Uzbekistan as an autonomous republic before becoming a full-fledged Soviet republic in 1929.On 9 September 1991, Tajikistan became an independent sovereign nation when the Soviet Union disintegrated. A civil war was fought almost immediately after independence, lasting from 1992 to 1997. Since the end of the war, newly established political stability and foreign aid have allowed the country's economy to grow. Like all other Central Asian neighbouring states, the country, led by President Emomali Rahmon since 1994, has been criticised by a number of non-governmental organizations for authoritarian leadership, lack of religious freedom, corruption and widespread violations of human rights.
Tajikistan is a presidential republic consisting of four provinces. Most of Tajikistan's 8.7 million people belong to the Tajik ethnic group, who speak Tajik (a dialect of Persian). Many Tajiks also speak Russian as their second language. While the state is constitutionally secular, Islam is practiced by 98% of the population. In the Gorno-Badakhshan Oblast of Tajikistan, despite its sparse population, there is large linguistic diversity where Rushani, Shughni, Ishkashimi, Wakhi and Tajik are some of the languages spoken. Mountains cover more than 90% of the country. It has a transition economy that is highly dependent on remittances, aluminium and cotton production. Tajikistan is a member of the United Nations, CIS, OSCE, OIC, ECO, SCO and CSTO as well as an NATO PfP partner.
