Places to see in ( Ile d'Oleron - France )
Île d'Oléron is an island off the west coast of France. Ile d'Oleron is joined to the mainland by a bridge and is crisscrossed by many cycling paths. Ile d'Oleron features pine forests and sandy beaches such as La Brée-les-Bains. Fishing ports fringe the island, like the busy La Cotinière in the major city of Saint-Pierre d'Oléron. Le Château d'Oléron, a town known for its oysters, is home to La Citadelle, a huge waterfront fortress.
Ile d'Oleron has an area of about 174 km2. It is a fertile and well cultivated island on the Atlantic coast of France, that is on the Bay of Biscay. The climate is generally mild (maritime temperate) with sufficient but not excessive rainfall, but with probably from 3 to 15 days of intense heat in the summer months of July and August, mostly grouped.
Administratively, Ile d'Oleron belongs to the Charente-Maritime département, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine région. The island is divided into 8 communes:
La Brée-les-Bains
Le Château-d'Oléron
Dolus-d'Oléron
Le Grand-Village-Plage
Saint-Denis-d'Oléron
Saint-Georges-d'Oléron (includes Boyardville)
Saint-Pierre d'Oléron
Saint-Trojan-les-Bains
Since 1966, Ile d'Oleron has been connected to the mainland by a road bridge. With a length of 2,862 m (9,390 ft) between abutments, it was the longest bridge in France at the time of construction. It is now the third one, after the Saint-Nazaire bridge and the Île de Ré bridge. It has been toll-free since 1991. On the island itself, the easiest way to get around is by car or by bicycle. During the last ten years, a network of 110 kilometers of bicycle paths have been built. These bicycle lanes are mostly car-free.
As a large Atlantic island only 3 kilometres off the Aquitanian coast of France, Oléron is a popular tourist destination. Several companies operate boat trips from the towns of Boyardville and Saint-Denis to the nearby Ile d'Aix, La Rochelle, and past the Fort Boyard. The port towns are frequently visited by tourists, especially the village of La Cotiniere. This village is the base for a hundred trawlers who sell their fish every day at 05:00 and 16:00h. La Cotiniere was the first fishing port in the department of Charente-Maritime, and the 8th of France.

Ile d'Oleron (Oleron island) France 2013, the Atlantic coast of France (due west of Rochefort), on the southern side of the Pertuis d'Antioche strait.
As a large Atlantic island only 3 kilometres off the Aquitanian coast of France, Oléron is a popular tourist destination for people all over France. There are very few foreign tourists. The months of July and especially August are most crowded, as most French people take their holidays during that time. The island has long-stretched beaches, and surfing and horse-riding are catered for. Besides, there are many old buildings scattered around. The campsites are popular with families. Several companies operate boat trips from the town of Boyardville to the nearby Ile d'Aix and past the famous Fort Boyard. The gastronomy is also a tourist attraction as the island has many restaurants specialising in seafood, especially the local oysters. The port towns are most visited by tourists, especially the village of La Cotiniere. This village is the base point for hundred trawlers who sell their fish every day at 5h and 16h. La Cotiniere is the first fishing port of the department of Charente-Maritime, and the 8th of France.

Royan is a seaside resort town on France’s Atlantic coast, at the mouth of the Gironde estuary. Its sandy beaches include the 2 km-long, south-facing La Grande Conche with its sheltered waters. The town also has belle epoque villas and modern, postwar architecture such as the concrete Notre-Dame de Royan church. The grand Cordouan Lighthouse stands on an islet in the estuary, accessible by ferry.
Stella Plage:-
During the Merovingian period, the region consisted only of marshland or land encroached by the sea. This receded over time, leaving the marshes covered by sand and dunes. The Garennes, or warrens, of Cucq and Trépied are the result of the sea’s retreat over hundreds of years. Broken up by the wind at low tide, sand from the tidal flats built up along the coast to form shoreline dunes.
