На Памире - Исмаилитский центр в Душанбе | The Ismaili Center in Dushanbe

Opened in 2009, the Ismaili Centre, Dushanbe is the first such Centre in Central Asia — a region that has been home to Ismaili Muslims for more than a thousand years. It stands as both a reminder of great history and accomplishment, and a call on the peoples of the region to reflect on that inheritance as they shape the world of tomorrow.
Inspired by some of the region’s most distinctive monuments, the architecture of the Ismaili Centre blends many craft and artisanal traditions of Central Asia. It is designed to facilitate cultural and intellectual exchange, and to re-invigorate the spirit of enquiry characterised by scholars whose contributions over the centuries were encouraged by the Ismaili Muslim community under the patronage of its leadership.

Genetic Tests for Couples: Tajikistan imposes genetic tests for future married couples
A bill was passed last month forbidding first cousins from getting married
Tajik lawmakers are imposing genetic tests for future married couples. This comes after doctors warned that marriages between close relatives are a common cause of birth defects in the central-Asian nation. Tajik families with disabled children receive treatment and support at a center in Dushanbe. Government officials believe they can reduce the number of disabilities long before problems appear.
Maysara Sharipova, Director of Centre for Treatment of Disabled Children: Marriages between blood relatives in some cases cause physical and mental disabilities in children, such as Down's Syndrome and autism.
With the new law genetic testing will be required to ensure engaged couples are not related. Dushanbe residents have commented the changes.
- This is probably nonsense. I think it's too much.
- Lawmakers saw the need for such a law. They know better.
A bill was passed last month forbidding first cousins from getting married. According to Radio Free Europe couples planning to marry must also be declared free of sexually-transmitted diseases. Some lawmakers may also go further and consider an amendment stating that a woman's virginity must be confirmed by a doctor before marriage.

Houston getting new mega mosque for first Ismaili center in US.
Houston will soon be home to the first Ismaili Center in the United States.
There are six other centers around the world — in London, Vancouver, Toronto, Lisbon, Dubai and Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The center will be located on the corner of Allen Parkway and Montrose Boulevard.
The Ismaili Center will also house a Jamatkhana, which is a “place for spiritual contemplation and prayers for the Ismailis.”
Ismaili Muslims are a part of a culturally diverse community residing in more than twenty five countries.
According to a news release, they “express their values through betterment of self and society,
search for knowledge, embracing pluralism, building peace and working to build and improve communities.”
The Ismailis estimate there are twenty million individuals in its community, making it the second-largest in the Shiite branch of Islam.
“The Ismaili Center will be a place where Houstonians of all backgrounds, faiths, and walks of life will find engaging, thoughtful, and compassionate programs, and people.
That will be in keeping with Ismaili values and the values of the Ismaili leader, the Aga Khan, who last visited Houston in March two thousand eighteen.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said. “It’s fitting that the Center will be designed by a world renowned architect who has lived, studied and worked around the world, and that the green space will be designed by a landscape architect who has already worked on a major Houston park. This is a milestone for our city.”
Farshid Moussavi will be the architect for the center.
The Ismailis have a one thousand four hundred year history that traces succession from Ali, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad.
Currently, the Aga Khan is the forty nine hereditary imam of the global Ismaili Muslim community.
Ismaili Centers are architecturally unique and each building includes space for “gatherings, intellectual engagement and reflection, as well as spiritual contemplation.”
“A central purpose of the Ismaili Centers is to encourage mutual exchanges and understanding between diverse peoples, communities and faiths. The Centers are, therefore, not only places for spiritual search, but also spaces for broadening intellectual horizons and fostering an appreciation of pluralism,” a news release said.
