IDF History Museum 102317
On 10/23/17 Nefesh takes us on a trip to Tel Aviv and we end with a trip to the IDF museum with all of its tanks and weapons. Only in Israel would you see such a thing with all of our recent history
History of Modern Israel - Tel-Aviv, Jaffa Port, IDF Museum - 3.6.2011
Spring Ibex 2011 - The Master's College took a trip to Tel-Aviv. And in Tel-Aviv we stopped at the oldest port called Jaffa Port - the port that Jonah used to get away from God in the book of Jonah. Also, we visited two Museum, one was the Israel defense Museum which explained about all the wars Israel went through in history and we went to another museum in the city of Tel-Aviv which is the location of where Israel declared their independence. Enjoy!
Israel's amazing Tank Museum (Part 1)
The Yad Lashiryon (or Yad La-Shiryon) complex is located at Latrun Fort beside Israel’s Highway 1 between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. It includes an Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) Museum with a magnificent display of over 170 armoured vehicles and some jeeps and trucks. The exhibits include tanks, armoured cars, mobile artillery and assault bridges used by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and Arab armies since 1948 as well as vehicles from the USA, Russia etc. Some of these are unique and found no where else.
The complex also includes a Wall of Names on which are inscribed the names of all 4,965 members of the Armoured Corps killed since 1948, the Gate of Courage on which photographs of the fallen are projected 24/7 and the Tower of Tears created by artist Danny Karavan. Its interior walls have been covered with armour plates taken from IDF tanks down which water trickles continuously.
Yad Lashiryon also includes the Museum of the Jewish Soldier in WWII, the Allied Forces Monument (honouring the Allied armoured forces who defeated the Nazi war machine), an armour reference library and data centre, the Hall of Valour, the Education Campus for Ethical Values and Nature and much more.
The Ayalon valley in which Latrun is located is steeped in Jewish history. It was the site of the Biblical battles of Joshua Bin-Nun against the Amorite kings in the 13th century BC.
It was also the site of Judah the Maccabi’s victorious battle against the army of Antiochus. In Israel’s War of Independence in 1948, heavy fighting took place around Latrun as Israeli forces fought the crack Jordanian Arab Legion for control of the strategic fort. The Israeli forces suffered heavy losses. Amongst the Israeli casualties was Ariel Sharon, who was badly wounded. The fort was captured from the Jordanian Army in 1967.
Video and photos by Karl Martin. The photos of the Hadassah armoured bus and the Dodge Power Wagon-based improvised armoured car were taken in the superb IDF History Museum in Tel Aviv and are included for completeness.
A visit to Yad Lashiryon is highly recommended.
Visitors should note the following:
The museum is very large, so allow at least four hours per visit. A lift and stairway provide access to the roof of Latrun Fort. Here an observation balcony provides great views of the Ayalon Valley; (2) the weather in Latrun is invariably hot so come equipped with head gear, sun blocker and lots of drinking water. While filming in March 2016 my Canon G7X overheated and seized up - hence the out of focus photo of the Dodge Power Wagon in the video. Luckily 15 minutes in some shade cured the problem; (3) some display captions in the museum are either missing or in Hebrew. However, there are some excellent IDF guided tours - check in advance; (4) the museum’s neat shop sells a selection of books on the IDF as well as some armour models and IDF branded T-shirts, caps and other souvenirs. An open-air snack bar is also nearby; (5) IDF security at the entrance is friendly and efficient. Help them by bringing your passport for ID purposes.
Nearby is the Latrun Trappist Monastery with its beautiful church, restful garden and shop. Next door to Yad Lashiryon is Little Israel (

How Israel developed the most technologically advanced military in the World
A thorough and fact filled documentary of publicly available info on Israel's military strength as of 2016. Sadly, it suffers from almost machine-like flat toned narration.
Watch this vid to learn, not for entertainment.

My Family go to Museum of Armored Forces. Israel City Latrun . Tank museum.I travel to israel. The Armored Corps Memorial Site and Museum at Latrun; Hebrew: יד לשריון) is Israel's official memorial site for fallen soldiers from the armored corps, as well as one of the most diverse tank museums in the world.[1] The cornerstone for Yad La-Shiryon was laid on December 14, 1982.
The site was created through the initiative of veteran officers of the armored corps. The outdoor display includes 110 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, both Israeli and captured enemy examples including the Merkava and T-72 tanks, as well as vehicles purchased from allied nations specifically for diversifying the collection. Other notable items include: an M4 Sherman tank mounted high atop a former British water tower; a collection of mobile bridges constructed by the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) which can be carried by tanks and erected while under fire; captured enemy vehicles, most of which Israel has modified and updated; a tank with a blown up gun; and a long, engraved commemorative wall bearing the names of Armored Corps soldiers killed in defense of the country.
