Day in the Life of a Japanese Game Programmer
A Japanese Game Developer working in Tokyo Japan. This is the programmer life in Japan. As a Japanese game programmer you'll see what it is like commuting to work in Tokyo and going to work at one of the largest Video Game Studios in Japan as well as working with other Japanese video game developers, software engineers, video game devs, game designers and even Japanese game directors for a major Japanese Video Game studio. We follow Masa, a 23 year old, Japanese programmer, throughout his workday and witness what he does during his Japanese working hours as a Japanese game programmer at the Bandai Namco Studios office in Tokyo. We'll even interact with directors from popular Japanese video game titles such as Tekken and CodeVein. Plus we'll get to see what a Japanese programmer from one of the large Video Game companies in Japan does after work with friends. This look inside a Japanese game dev's life is pretty unique and should provide some insight for those people who want to work in Japan as a game developer or game programmer. Also, this day in the life of a Japanese programmer will show you what it takes to be a Japanese programmer. As you would expect, most of the work day is spent programming and coding, but there are other unique aspects of the Japanese programmers life we are able to see in this video.

A closer look at Japan's coolness -- strength in spirit, endurance and self-control. How social harmony keeps a nation strong in a bleak economy, seen from one half-Japanese American author's personal story. Roland is the author of the best-selling Japanamerica.
Cultures raise revolutions
Roland was born to an American father, and a Japanese mother and grew up in both America and Japan. As a reporter he writes for many magazines such as The New Yorker and The Japan Times, yet he is also very familiar with Japan’s pop culture, and he imparts his unique perspective on Japanese pop culture to the rest of the world.

Uncovering Japan’s new golden age | Jesper Koll | TEDxKyoto
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Economist Jesper Koll, dubbing himself the “last Japan Optimist, draws on the patterns and predictions hidden in today’s swirl of economic data. Along the way he enthusiastically turns skepticism about Japan’s future on its ear.
Economist/Japan Optimist
Economist Jesper Koll calls himself “the last Japan Optimist”, and perhaps not without reason. From newspaper and news website headlines and opinion pieces to coffeeshop
conversations, the popular opinion of Japan’s economic future often tilts towards skepticism and worry.
Jesper Koll, does not agree with these naysayers. Elegantly wielding a swirl of data and detail and infusing it with snappy good humor, Jesper argues that Japan’s future is bright and growing brighter.
A resident of Japan for the past 28 years, Jesper has turned his keen mind towards sleuthing out the hidden patterns and predictions found in the numbers that surround us here in Japan, and throughout the world. His insights and enthusiasm have enabled him to lend his skills and voice to a large number of world-class companies as well as to several Japanese government advisory committees.
Jesper Koll encourages us to look beyond popular interpretations of what our numbers mean, and find the deeper—and perhaps more hopeful—truths within.

Japanese culture's deep ties to nature are perhaps best embodied in the Japanese love for Mount Fuji. Cultural Ambassador Seiichi Kondo seeks to share with the world the heart of Japanese philosophy as a way to encourage a restoration of balance between nature and human thought.

Nagasaki Cruise Port Terminal Tour, Information & Walk to Glover Gardens (4K)
See what it is like in the Nagasaki International Cruise Ship Terminal at Matsugae-Pier Japan. We were at the Nagasaki cruise port as part of our 14 Day Asia cruise on the Majestic Princess (盛世公主号). This port was the most time-consuming and complicated in terms of going through immigration/customs. As you can see in the video, you need to complete a visitor's card and a customs card prior to arrival. Like some of the other ports on this cruise, even if you are not getting off the ship, you are required to go into the terminal building and pass immigration by 10:30 AM. The cruise ship company takes care of the passport portion for guests, but you are still required to submit your fingerprint and go through scanners. The Japanese certain is taking security very seriously, which is good, but as a guest you should be expected for a 30+ minute wait. The money changing station at inside the cruise terminal is very busy as well- so you can save time if you had Japanese yen exchanged ahead of time, e.g. in a previous port.
The great thing about the Nagasaki port is that there is free wi-fi, plus plenty of information for tourists inside. You can find maps, info on trams, and even a self-guided walking tour. We had done research on Nagasaki and decided to walk to the beautiful from port. It only took about 15 minutes, though you do have to go uphill and walk up stairs. Once there, the views of the surroundings are spectacular, as are the beautiful flowers at the garden.
Also there were plenty of shopping opportunities right inside and outside the Nagasaki cruise ship terminal building with plenty of local Japanese vendors selling goods such as silk scarfs, silk socks, snacks, traditional attire, dolls, art and more.
This was part of our March 2018 Asia Cruise vlog on the Princess Cruises Majestic Princess ship. Please feel free to comment or ask any questions and we'd be happy to answer!

Choices women make -- why can't Japanese women have it all? | Kumi Sato | TEDxMarunouchiWomen
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Women in many other nations are able to balance work and home, while women in Japan are often forced to choose. One solution Kumi Sato discusses is to allow Japanese women the ability to sponsor and hire domestic workers from abroad. If the Japanese government were serious about getting women back to work or continue their careers, Kumi suggests re-visiting regulations to provide Japanese women options for nannies, domestic helpers, and elderly care.
In 1999, Kumi Sato was the founder of womenjapan.com, one of the first websites to empower women. Womenjapan.com K.K., was sold to Softbank Investments in 2001. In 2012, the Harvard Business School Club of Japan named Kumi Business Stateswoman of the Year. In 2011, she won the Outstanding Individual Achievement honor at the Asia-Pacific SABRE Awards.

Building towards the future | Takaharu Tezuka | TEDxKyoto
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Tezuka Architect’s co-founder Takaharu Tezuka envisions — and brings to life — architectural creations that combine personal spaces with infinite versatility. In doing so, Tezuka fuses need and inspiration to create buildings that become livable art.
Architect
When are walls not walls? When are windows not windows? The answer to these questions is as elegant and complete as the soaring structures in which these walls and windows can be found.
Takaharu Tezuka is one half of Tezuka Architects. With his wife Yui Tezuka, Takaharu has envisioned and brought to life architectural creations that combine elements that are at once intensely personal and yet infinite.
Takaharu and his team have built schools centered on trees, play areas created from interwoven wooden beams and hospitals that offer patients the healing gifts of joyous light and space. It is this same breathtaking light and space, sketched out with clean lines of wood, metal and glass, that are the hallmarks of each of Tezuka Architect’s projects. Since establishing Tezuka Architects in 1994, Takaharu, Yui and their team have created buildings that transform mere walls and windows into living — and livable – art.

How mindfulness can help you to live in the present | Rev. Takafumi Kawakami | TEDxKyoto
Rev. Takafumi Kawakami, Deputy Head Priest at Kyoto’s Shunkoin Temple, embraces the skill of mindfulness as the center of Zen Buddhism and meditation, inspiring us all to slow our frantic lives to stay true to the present.
Participating in a TED event can have unexpected results, ranging from establishing new friendships and connections to inspiring us to think, live and act in completely new ways. For Jason Hsu, TED conferences had a profound impact. In 2008 he combined his TED inspirations with his varied professional experiences as a news editor in Taiwan, entrepreneur in San Francisco and UNESCO volunteer to found The Big Question Conference, a local event in Taipei modeled after the TED conference experience. When TED established the TEDx program in 2009, Jason was quick to found TEDxTaipei, the second TEDx event established in Asia. Now, as curator for TEDxTaipei and TEDx ambassador for Asia as well as co-founder and Chief Catalyst for MakerBarTaipei, Jason’s goals for TEDxTaipei mirror the goals for TED and TEDx events around the world: to bring new ideas home, and to share local stories with the world.
