Itaipu Dam
The Itaipu Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Paraná River located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The dam is the largest operating hydroelectric facility in terms of annual energy generation, generating 98.3 TWh in 2012 and 98.6 TWh in 2013. It is a binational undertaking run by Brazil and Paraguay at the Paraná River on the border section between the two countries, 15 km (9.3 mi) north of the Friendship Bridge. The installed generation capacity of the plant is 14 GW, with 20 generating units providing 700 MW each with a hydraulic design head of 118 m. In 2008 the plant generated a record 94.68 TWh, supplying 90% of the electricity consumed by Paraguay and 19% of that consumed by Brazil. Of the twenty generator units currently installed, ten generate at 50 Hz for Paraguay and ten generate at 60 Hz for Brazil. Since the output capacity of the Paraguayan generators far exceeds the load in Paraguay, most of their production is exported directly to the Brazilian side.

The Largest Hydroelectric Complex In The World - Dam Itaipu
The #Itaipu Dam, with a total length of 7,235 metres, is the #largest #hydroelectric #dam on the Paraná River located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay.
The construction of the dam was first contested by Argentina, but the negotiations and resolution of the dispute ended up setting the basis for Argentine–Brazilian integration later on.
The name Itaipu was taken from an isle that existed near the construction site. In the Guarani language, Itaipu means the sounding stone.
The Itaipu Dam's hydroelectric #power #plant produced the most energy of any in the world as of 2016, setting a new world #record of 103,098,366 megawatt hours, and surpassed the Three Gorges Dam plant in energy production in 2015 and 2016.

Hi guys, this is travel guide/VLOG of the incredible ITAIPU, the world's SECOND LARGEST DAM, and the WORLD'S LARGEST PRODUCER OF ELECTRICITY!
Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam is the largest operational hydroelectric energy producer in the world, with an installed generation capacity of 14GW. The plant is operated by Itaipu Binacional and located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. Energy generated by Itaipu helps meet demands from the two countries. About 90% of the energy generated by the plant is used by Brazil.
The dam and the plant are on the Paraná River. Construction of the dam began in February 1971 and cost $19.6bn. The first unit began generating power in May 1984. The second generating unit started operating the same year. As of 2009 Itaipu has 20 generating units, each with a capacity of 700MW.
The dam’s reservoir, which covers an area of 1,350km², is the seventh-largest reservoir in Brazil, with a best coefficient of water utilisation of 10.4MW/km². Itaipu generated 94.68 billion kWh of energy in 2008, sufficient to meet worldwide power consumption for two days.It is equal to the energy consumed by Paraguay for 11 years and by Argentina for one year. Here on this vlog I tell you about the different tours you can take, the Illuminations Tour, the Vista Panoramica and the Special Circuit Tour. I tell you all about prices, places to go, show you the interior and exterior of the dam so on and so forth. Thanks you so much for watching my video. Former workers at Paraguay's Itaipu hydroelectric dam nailed themselves to crosses in the capital As
Former workers at Paraguay's Itaipu hydroelectric dam nailed themselves to crosses in the capital Asuncion on Tuesday, as part of a protest to demand compensation benefits.
Blood seeped from the hands of the four men and one woman as they lay in front of the Brazilian embassy.
They're calling on the company, jointly owned by Paraguay and Brazil, to award the pension benefits they say the company has denied them.
All were involved in the construction of the hydroelectric facility that is one of the biggest of its kind in the world.
Family members sat, fanning the protesters to keep them cool in the summer heat and giving them water to drink.
Three of the men have been taking part in the unusual protest since December 8 and were joined by the only woman, 52-year-old Rosa Caceres, on December 16.
The latest to join the protest, 71-year-old Pablo Garcete, said he remains hopeful they will receive the money.
According to the demonstrators each of the 9-thousand former workers from the Itaipu plant should receive approximately 40-thousand US dollars in benefits.
For its part, the company say the workers were employees of a contracted company and as such the Itaipu dam is not responsible for their welfare.
The demonstrators say the firms they worked for were established under an umbrella group owned by the company and guided by its 'social protocols' and as such continue to lay their claims at the company's door.
A spokesman for the group told the Associated Press they will not rest until the payments have been made.
