Sitia, a coastal town on Crete, situated in the northeastern part of the Lasithi region. It is accessible by boat and by plane and it’s an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area.
Sitia has all the necessary infrastructure to fully serve tourism, while keeping the authenticity through the selflessness of its people. I stayed 3 days and I visited Vai, Itanos, Piskokefalo, Exo Mouliana, Rixtis canyon and Moni Toplou.

Crete Sitia - Itanos region
The municipality of Itanos is situated at the East Coast of Crete. It is based in Palekastro, a small town 19 km from Sitia. the overall area hosts important archaeological sites and spots of unique natural beauty marking this region as one of the last virgin destinations for holidays. At this district are also submitted the settlements Agathias, Vai, Mirtidia, Lidia, Chochlakies, the Toplos Monastery, the area of Itanos, Agios Nikolaos, Agios Spiridonas, Vagias, Kalamaki and Analoukas.

When I decided to extend my stay on the Greek island of Crete, I didn't have much of a plan but I found plenty of adventure waiting! My friend (Traveling Greek on Instagram) & I made out way to the small town of Sitia exploring it's surrounding region and eventually ending up on beautiful Vai Beach. It's one of the most visited beaches on the island of Crete and home to Europe's largest natural palm forest. This region is certainly not something to miss so go Discover Vai and Sitia!
