ITO, Izu Peninsula-Japan~Mt. OMURO~JOGASAKI COAST/SUSPENSION BRIDGE~NEW YORK LAMP AND FLOWER MUSEUM.
Ito (伊東, Itō) is a famous hot spring resort town on the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula. Due to its easy accessibility from Tokyo, the town is partially quite built-up, but also offers some historic buildings in its center, such as the Tokaikan, a historic, former ryokan open to the public. Outside the town center, Ito offers quite impressive natural scenery with its cliffy coast and hilly terrain.
About ten kilometers south of central Ito is Izu Kogen, a popular villa district and sightseeing destination with many small museums, restaurants, Mount Omuro and the beautiful Jogasaki Coast.

Wonderful sunny day to visit this small hill, just close to our place, where I was invited. There again was a 360°view, but some cloud came from one side,so that some pictures are a bit dark, but still I loved this place! Song performed by Buck Norris, friend of the good old times on YT. Thanks for the music!

ASA FORUM 2014 - Toyo Ito -Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects,Japan
Toyo Ito is a leading Japanese architect internationally known for conceptual and innovative designs. He graduated from Department of Architecture, University of Tokyo in 1965 and worked for Kiyonori Kikutake Architect and Associates until 1969. In 1971, he founded his own studio Urban Robot (URBOT) in Tokyo, which was renamed Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects in 1979. Many of Ito's works across Japan and overseas have made a strong impact on architectural design. He frequently challenges common practice and seeks to explore new potentials with creative interplay between form, structure, space, nature and contexts, resulting in unique spatial solutions never before seen. Among his critically-acclaimed projects are Sendai Mediatheque (2001), Serpentine Pavilion Gallery in London's Hyde Park (2002), TOD'S Omotesando Building (2004), Tama Art University Library (2007). Recently, his awarded design for Japanese Pavilion in the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale represented the concept of Home-for-All communal space for disaster survivors in Japan. It questioned a lack of humanity in modern design and brought back to the fundamental, primal meaning of architecture. Toyo Ito has been praised to receive several awards, including the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2013, the 22nd Praemium Imperiale in Honor of Prince Takamatsu in 2010, the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2006, and the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the 8th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 2002. His work has been published and exhibited extensively worldwide. He has taught as a visiting professor at several universities including the University of Tokyo, Columbia University, the University of California, Los Angeles, Kyoto University, and Tama Art University, and hosted an overseas studio for Harvard University's Graduate School of Design in 2012.

A Japanese Constellation: Toyo Ito, SANAA, and Beyond at the MoMA
AD Interviews: Toyo Ito
Learn more in the following link:
The Japan Pavilion for the Venice Biennale (designed by Takamasa Yoshizaka in 1956) presented the exhibit “Architecture. Possible here? Home-for-all”, curated by Toyo Ito, with the participation of architectural photographer Naoya Hatakeyama, and architects Kumiko Inui, Sou Fujimoto and Akihisa Hirata.
The exhibition, which was awarded with the Gold Lion at the Biennale, takes us through the process where these three emerging architects collaborated with Toyo Ito to design the “Home-for-all”, a project for the inhabitants of Rikuzentakata who lost their homes during the tsunami in 2011.
In the walls we find Hatakeyama’s photos from before and after the tsunami, along with a visual registry of the architects visiting the location. Around the pavilion, several study models reveal the process to design this unique type of house.
