This was the first time to see the cherry blossom as a family. We were fortunate enough to be able to see the trees in full bloom in the most of the places that we visited. We were in Japan for nearly 3 weeks and visited ⇨ Part 1 Tokyo (Local Sakura Festival, Meguro River, Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo), Nara Park, Todaiji ⇨ Part 2 Kyoto (Arashiyama, Monkey Park), Osaka Aquarium, Arima Onsen. ⇨ Part 3 Hikone Castle, Himeji Castle, Kurashiki, Okayama Korakuen, Fukushima Miharu no Takizakura.

Japanese Onsen are natural hot springs and around them are amazing places where you can bathe in many different kinds of waters. Bath tourism to onsen towns has always been popular with Japanese but as more people come to Japan for a visit, more are visiting the onsen and there are hundreds of hot spring towns.
Onsen baths are loaded with minerals that are good for the body, making your skin silky soft. Most of the water in these areas seeps from the ground, the hot water being the reason why many towns exist at that particular spot, their history rooting in its water.
It's the one do not miss recommendations I have for any trip to Japan. Every onsen is different so in this episode, I visit 13 different onsen towns in Fukushima prefecture, most with history going back centuries.

This samurai residence was built about 170 years ago. Visitors can view the main building, where some lifesize dolls are arranged to reenact daily life during the Edo Period. The gardens may also be viewed from the house.
Takahashi developed at the base of Matsuyama Castle into a thriving castle town of samurai, merchants and craftsmen. Some of the historic streets close to the castle have been preserved, and a few samurai and merchant houses have been restored and opened to the public. There are also temples and a few museums around town that display the local history and culture.
Note that a convenient, discounted combination ticket is available that provides tourists with admission to the castle, Raikyuji Temple, the two samurai residences and the Takahashi Historical Museum for 900 yen. Orii Samurai Residence

渡月橋（とげつきょう）は、京都府京都市の桂川に架かる橋。
承和年間（834年 - 848年）に道昌という僧が架橋しました。
月が橋の上空を移動する姿を見た亀山上皇が「渡月橋」と命名。
橋長155m、幅11m、車道2車線。両側に一段高い歩道。
観光地、交通の要所として嵐山を象徴しています。
桜と紅葉の名所でもあり、11月は橋を中心にもみじ祭りが開催。
「渡月橋付近をボートを漕いだカップルは別れる」。
「渡月橋をカップルで歩行中、振り向くと別れる」
こんな、ちょっと悲しいジンクスがあります。
「渡月橋付近の法輪寺の仏様から知恵を授かっても、
橋で振り返ると忘れてしまう…」
そんな渡月橋にまつわる昔話「十三参り」の影響かもしれません。

We are in Ehime in Shikoku! I absolutely fell in love with Matsuyama and Dogo Onsen. If you go there, I 1000% recommend the local specialty- taimeshi, which is red sea bream rice.

Japan Trip 2017 Part 5 Hakone, Fuji Safari, Shuzenji Onsen/息子の動物触れ合い体験と温泉地巡り
This was the last area that we visited on our 2017 trip. We took the Skinkansen from Toyko to Mishima and then travelled by car to the Fuji Safari Park. Our son really enjoyed seeing all the animals there. After that, we went to Shuzenji Onsen and stayed at the Kikuya Ryokan for one night, where we enjoyed exploring the local town and sampling their delicious food and hospitality. Next we journeyed to Hakone and stayed at the famous Fujiya Hotel, whose past guests have included Charlie Chaplin, John Lennon and Neil Armstrong. Sadly we were not able to see Mt Fuji because of the overcast weather, but we enjoyed taking the various modes of transport around Hakone as well as visiting the Open Air Museum.
今回の旅の最終地は富士山周辺へ。東京駅から新幹線で三島へ行きその後富士サファリパークへ。息子が動物と触れ合うことができ大喜び。修善寺温泉では菊谷旅館に泊まり温泉満喫。散策後箱根へ。富士屋ホテルに泊まり彫刻の森美術館と芦ノ湖での海賊船、ロープウェイを満喫。残念ながら一度も富士山を見ることが出来ず帰国。

We learned how to make soba, went to Hebusu Marsh to find tree frogs, and then heard stories from an ALT about what it’s been like to live in Fukushima after the March 2011 disaster.

Mount Bandai (磐梯山 Bandai-san?), también conocido en japonés como Aizu-Bandai-san (会津磐梯山?), Aizu-Fuji (会津富士?), y Aizu-ne (会津嶺?), es una montañana y estratovolcano localizado en la prefectura de Fukushima, Japón.
En una gran erupción ocurrida el 15 de Julio de 18881 las partes norte y este de la caldera colapsaron en un corrimiento de tierra masivo, formando dos lagos, el Lago Hibara y el lago Onogawa, también se formaron algunos lagos de menor densidad como el lago Goshiki-numa, o los llamados 'Cinco lagos colorados'.
En esta zona se encuentran diversos lagos que se formaron por este evento, todo esta zona ha llegado tener diversas denominaciones como Urabandai o Bandai-kōgen, y con el paso de los años se ha convertido en un destino turistico.
La ultima erupción fue catastrófica y marcó completamente la forma del volcán y su área vecina. Todos las aldeas circundantes fueron destruídas a causa de esta erupación, murieron 461 personas y 70 resultaron con graves quemaduras. La ceniza volcánica causó un bloqueo en los ríos cercanos creando diversos lagos.

The natural spring waters of the Mukaitaki Hot Spring. The inn has a number of different baths, each of them with different properties. In addition to the traditional Kitsuneyu, which dates back to the inn's days as a recreation facility for Aizu's samurai rulers, the inn boasts three different family baths and one large bath, known as the Sarunoyu, for communal bathing. The water emerges at close to 60 degrees, and is brought down to a more comfortable 42--45 degrees as it passes through a series of pipes. No additional heating or dilution takes place.
