Miyajima in Cherry Blossom Season Part 1 - Itsukushima Shrine ???? 宮島●厳島神社 ???? Japan As It Truly Is
Miyajima with its Itsukushima Shrine is one of the greatest sights of Japan and will give you a truly unforgettable experience.
Besides Tokyo and Kyoto, Hiroshima is one of the most popular tourist places, and Miyajima is the jewel of the region.
Itsukushima Shrine goes back to around the 6th Century, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The floating torii gate in the water is regarded as one of the 3 Great Views of Japan, and is 16m high and 24m wide. It has been rebuilt 7 times over the centuries, and the current 8th one was erected in 1875.
NB: From June 2019, for at least a year, the big torii gate will be undergoing renovations - it will be covered by scaffolding. For some, seeing the torii in the water is the highlight of the visit, so plan accordingly - and see it here if you can't make it in time.
This footage explores Miyajima at the height of the cherry blossom season, which is one of the best times to see it. Also included here is the Daiganji Temple, plus Omoto Park and shrine exploding in sakura blossoms.
But you would be severely shortchanging yourself if you only saw Itsukushima Shrine and then left Miyajima - be sure to continue on to Part 2 to see Daishoin, one of Japan's best temples nearby.
Hiroshima also has a number of very good sights - much more than just the Peace Park - so be sure to watch the Hiroshima Playlist:

Japan - Hiroshima Castle & Miyajima Itsukushima Shrine by Drone 4K
The great Torii is the boundary between the spirit and the human worlds.
Itsukushima Shrine is a Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima (popularly known as Miyajima), best known for its floating torii gate. The shrine has more than 1400 years of history, and is a registered as an World Heritage Site.
Hiroshima Castle was constructed in the 1590s, but was destroyed by the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. The present tower, constructed largely of concrete, was completed in 1958.

Japan VLOG #5 | Cherry Blossoms in Osaka & Itsukushima Shrine (Miyajima Island)
Hey guys! In this video I'm taking you to Osaka and Hiroshima (Miyajima Island) to see the infamous Itsukushima shrine. The cherry blossoms in Osaka were in full bloom so it was the most beautiful scenery I've seen so far in Japan (although I say that every video). But honestly, the most beautiful sight of cherry blossoms I've seen as well as the mesmerizing floating shrine at Miyajima Island. Enjoy! xx

The Shimanami Kaido cycle across Japan's Inland Sea is the most beautiful place in the country. The cycle route across the chain of islands that span it, is the best way to experience it. Even if it's one brutal undertaking on par with Mount Fuji.

ONOMICHI TEMPLE WALK | THINGS TO DO IN HIROSHIMA, JAPAN | The Tao of David
Please watch: ???????? Is HONG KONG SAFE for TOURISTS? | 2019 HONG KONG PROTESTS | MY EXPERIENCE (with subtitles)
--~--
Are YOU planning a Japan trip in 2018? Looking for things to do in Hiroshima? The Onomichi Temple Walk is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in Japanese culture by checking out numerous Japanese shrines and temples (over 25 in Onomichi), visit Cat Alley and take the ropeway (or walk) up Mount Senko-ji.
However! Onomichi is a typical small Japanese town (almost like a ghost town and pretty deserted) with most local shops being closed on certain weekdays, which is frustrating! To actually find some life in Onomichi head to the area clos to Onomichi Station, where you can find Onomichi U2, with places to shop and eat.
Please note the negativity and sarcasm in this video is exactly that and is a reflection of how it can feel being in Japan for an extended period! Extreme honesty is a trademark of my channel and no offence is intended - Japan is awesome!
Overall Onomichi is probably a great place to visit in Japan, just not in early February when it's freezing cold and snowing!

Episode 35 - Japan / Onomichi, Hiroshima & Yudanaka
JAPAN: ONOMICHI, HIROSHIMA & NAGANO
Our last days in Japan! After a few more visits to the Kyoto temples close to the train station, we left Kyoto for Onomichi by train. Daniel had read a lot of nice things about this town located 280km on the Japanese sea coast. A lot of small islands are connected by bridges and ferries to the main island and bicycle ways have been specifically set for cyclists to ride from one island to the other. And those who know Daniel, will now understand why we decided to stop in Onomichi! Eiji who had never done this part of Japan, joined us in Onomichi by car.
We met in the afternoon at the guest house and went for a walk before sunset. We climbed the numerous stairs of this sloppy city before heading to an excellent sushi & sashimi restaurant in the centre of town.
Early morning we left for the harbour to rent our bicycle and start our tour. Daniel and Eiji went for regular ones but Magali wanted to try an e-bike. Unfortunately larger bicycles equipped with electric assistance were all booked so she ended up with one with small wheels, never mind she took it. We then embarked for a quick sea crossing on one of the ferries to reach the first island. The weather was rather cloudy and windy but cycling between the mandarins fields and the Japanese sea was very interesting and nice.
We stopped many times on our way to take pictures and shot the scenery. We bought mandarins directly from the farmer! After crossing 3 bridges and a stop in a very local restaurant to have sashimi octopus which comes directly from the area, we took a boat to come back to our initial starting point. It was an excellent day and we finished it beautifully going to a public bath a few km away, to relax and have dinner on-site.
The next day we left for Hiroshima in the morning and met our host at 88hiroshima guest house. After check-in we left to visit the city centre and the monuments dedicated to the Bomb-A events. It was very informative and also very sad to understand all the suffering the people from Hiroshima endured in 1945 and many years later with the side effects of the radiations. A lot of survivors can be found in the Memorial Park and around the Museum to give their testimony.
We chose to come to Hiroshima to also visit the Miyajima island and its famous Torii. You probably already seen a view of this majestic red door and its picture reflecting in the water. We were actually impressed to find out that there is a lot to do and to see on this island. It is full of temples and pagodas and has of course a main shrine but it is also a good hiking location. We didn’t hike to the top but did take the ropeway all the way up and came down by foot (about 1,5h). The view from the very top of Mt. Misen is very rewarding with a 360 degrees view of the sea, the forests and the sacred sites. We must say we loved Miyajima a lot!
WE SPECIFICALLY ENJOY
The sushis! We became sushi and sashimi addicts to the max! We of course had them before in Switzerland and other places but sushi and sashimi in Japan is a totally different story. Our preferences went to the local salmon, the squid, the octopus and the red snapper. Nigiri sushi were also excellent with a specific note to the Japanese macquerel!
Our brief visit to the Snow Monkey Park in Jigokudani, 45min. North of Nagano. These little creatures are so cute in their hot spring, we think the images speak for themselves!
ACCOMMODATIONS
Hiroshima: we loved staying at the 88 Hiroshima guest house, a traditional Japanese home with a few rooms, a great living room and a kitchen to share with other guests. The place is spotless, peaceful and zen. It is located only 20min. ride by bus from the city centre (nr 29). There is a lot of information on what to do and what to see at the guest house. Kengo, the owner was a backpacker once and he knows the exact the travellers needs. We had a very good rest at your home, thank you again for your warm welcome, we wish you all the best and hope to meet you again in a near future!
Yudanaka/Yamanouchi: Zen Hostel, a lovely renovated old ryokan very close to the train station. Tatami rooms and dormitories are available as well as a nice cafe/lounge.
RESTAURANTS
Onomichi: Hanaakari, one of the best sashimi we ever tried.
Onomichi: SpA 尾道平原温泉 ぽっぽの湯, the restaurant is part of a private SpA with a lot of facilities. The SpA is very popular and it is nice to have dinner in a typical Japanese uniform/suit right after a relaxed bath. The food was excellent and reasonably price. We could taste the Yamakake Donburi once again (dish of red tuna and sticky mountain yam that we firstly discovered in one of the Onsen during our first days in Japan).

Japan Trip: Taking in the Fresh Sea Air on the Shimanami, Kaido Bridge, Onomichi, Hiroshima 08
Japan Trip: Taking in the Fresh Sea Air on the Shimanami, Kaido Bridge, Onomichi, Hiroshima 08 Moochan
Visitors who love the outdoors, island hopping, or cycling are strongly recommended to visit the Shimanami Kaido bridge located in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. However, to be fair, Shimanami Kaido Bridge’s Honshu location is in Onomichi City with its Shikoku partner in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. This 60 kilometer bridge which spans over Seto Inland Sea also connects Honshu (Japan’s main island) with the island of Shikoku. In addition, bridge has ramps along the route for visitors to stop at one of the six islands (Mukaishima, Innoshima, Ikuchijima, Omishima, Hakatajima, and Oshima) in the Seto Inland Sea. Visitors can either drive or cycle across the bridge.
Many visitors, both domestic and international, who love to cycle, will enjoy travelling across this bridge via bicycle, experiencing the wind in the hair as they take in the beautiful sea scenery. Please note: the total bicycle route is 70 kilometers, including the bridge ramps. There are 14 different bicycle rental terminals along Shimanami Kaido Bridge. In addition to the main terminals at Onomichi Port and Sunrise Itoyama, visitors can rent bicycles from various terminals including Hakata Rental Cycle Terminal on Hakatajima Island, Shigei Nishi Port on Innoshima Island and so on. A deposit of 1000 yen is required. For adults (meaning junior high school students and older), the rental fee is 500 yen per day. For children (meaning elementary school and younger), the cost is 300 yen per day. Electric bicycles are available, but only for adults. Electric bicycles are 800 yen for 4 hours.
The islands have various accommodations, including minshuku (private residences turned into a bed and breakfast), camping grounds, and traditional hot spring (onsen) inns (ryokan) for visitors to spend the night. The view of Shimanami Kaido from one of the islands in the evening is just one of the beautiful sights visitors can experience.
Visitors looking for rest spots need not worry. The cycling route takes cyclists along restaurants and other rest areas the islands have. For motorists, there are various “service areas” on the expressway bridge where drivers can exit the car to stretch, eat, and take in the fresh sea air.
Please enjoy the attractions the islands hold. Among the most popular are Kosanji Temple and Museum on Ikuchijima Island, Flower Center in Innoshima Island, and Home of the Yoshihara Family (Very Important Cultural Property) on Mukaishima Island. In addition to the cultural aspects, in the summer, the islands have great beaches, annual firework festivals. Visitors can experiences thrilling and scenic boat rides such as the Tide Ride (a boat ride on the one of the fastest streams) in Oshima Island. And foodies are sure to enjoy the fresh seafood, caught in the local sea, as well as local, seasonal vegetables.
Cycling along the Shimanami Kaido Toll Bridge/Road is a new way to explore the islands of Seto Inland Sea. With the beautiful view of the water and the islands, cyclists from all over the world are sure to remember this Japanese cycling adventure!!
