Iwakiyama Shrine - Aomori - 岩木山神社 - 4K Ultra HD
Iwakiyama Shrine is a Shinto Shrine in the city of Hirosaki in the Aomori prefecture and located at the feet of Mt Iwaki, which is also considered to be part of the Shrine itself. There are not a good record on when the Iwakiyama Shrine was founded as the shrine itself was said to be founded before such practice by the local Emishi tribes. However, the first record available to us seems to establish that the Shrine was rebuilt in the year 800 and with several subsidiary shrines all around the Mt Iwaki. The beauty of Iwakiyama Shrine resides in its gorgeous approach and Sanmon (gate) as well as its Heiden (compound use to house offering) which was built during the early Edo period.
Finally,Mt Iwaki is easily accessible via a dedicated chairlift, however, climbing to the very top of Mt Iwaki itself requires some very good hiking shoes as the slopes can be very treacherous!

Iwakiyama Jinja 2018
[ Maniac Japan Travel -Tohoku ]
Iwakiyama Shrine (岩木山神社 Iwakiyama jinja) is a Shintō shrine in the city of Hirosaki in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It is the ichinomiya of former Tsugaru Domain. All of Mount Iwaki is considered to be a portion of the shrine.
The primary kami of Iwakiyama Shrine is the Ōkuninushi (大国主), referred to here as Utsushikuniotama-no-kami (顕国魂神). Other kami include Tatsubihime-no-kami (多都比姫神), Ōhoyamatsum (大山祇神), Sakanoue no Karitamaro-no-mikoto (坂上刈田麿), Ukanome-no-mikoto (宇賀能賣神), and Ōyamakuhi-no-kami (大山咋神).
The foundation of the Iwakiyama Shrine predates the historical period, and Mount Iwaki was a holy mountain for the local Emishi tribes. Per shrine tradition, the shrine was established on the summit of Mount Iwaki in the year 780. It was rebuilt by the folk-hero Sakanoue no Tamuramaro in the year 800 and dedicated to his father Sakanoue no Karitamaro. Several subsidiary shrines were built around the base of the mountain in an area called the Tokoshinai (十腰内) by the local inhabitants. One of these subsidiary shrines to the southeast of the mountain developed into the Shingon sect Buddhist temple of Hyakutaku-ji (百沢寺) in 1091, and became the predecessor of the present shrine. The three main peaks on Mount Iwaki were identified with the Buddhist deities of Amida Nyorai, Yakushi Nyorai and Kannon Bosatsu.
During the Meiji period’s government-ordered separation of Buddhism from Shinto, the temple became a Shinto shrine. In 1871, it was officially designated one of the Kokuhei Shōsha (国幣小社), or 3rd ranked national shrine under the State Shinto system until 1946.[2]
Many of the structures of Iwakiyama Shrine date from the early Edo period, and were built in 1694 under the sponsorship of the Tsugaru clan of Hirosaki Domain. The two-story main gate (Ryōmon) was built in 1628. The Honden, Heiden, Oku-no-mon and Ryōmon are built in the yosegi-zukuri style with decorative wood carvings, which have given the shrine its nickname of “Oku-Nikko” after the more famous structures of the Nikkō Tōshō-gū. All of these buildings are registered as National Important Cultural Properties.
Sakura Cherry Blossoms in Hirosaki - Japan ᴴᴰ ● 桜まつり青森弘前⎮Japan Travel Vlog
►Hirosaki Castle Park is home to almost 3000 sakura trees, with over 50 different types - and in my opinion, it's THE best spot of anywhere in Japan to watch the cherry blossoms.
There are lots of great places around Tokyo to watch the sakura cheery blossom, but Hirosaki in Aomori isn't just great, it's an overwhelming experience, with sakura everywhere you look, in this beautiful castle park, with Mount Iwaki (Iwakiyama) serving as a perfect backdrop.
Aomori is located north of Tokyo, 3h10m by Shinkansen, right under the island of Hokkaido. Once you get to Aomori City, it's another 50 minutes by local train to Hirosaki, but well worth the effort, and I'd say it's something you should see just once in your life.
- Enjoy!

Chosho-ji - Aomori - 長勝寺 - 4K Ultra HD
Choso-ji is Horisaki’s second most important temple and as such is worthy of your consideration. Choso-ji was built in 1629 by the second Lord Nobuhira. Located in a unique district of Hirosaki and also known as Zenringai, the temple is surrounded by 33 Zen Sotoshu temples, most of which are not accessible to the public. Choso-ji stands out from the crowd thanks to its gorgeous 16.2m high sanmon and a hall filled with wooden statues of the 500 disciples of Buddha!

Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri - Aomori - 弘前ねぷたまつ - 4K Ultra HD
The Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri is a magnificent matsuri held each summer from August 1st to 7th. It's features some of the city’s most gorgeous floats featuring some unique Chinese and ancient Japanese drawings. Hirosaki Neputa is said to have originated from the Nemuri Nagashi, a traditional event set to banish sleep demons who make people drowsy during the summer when farm work is at its busiest. Alongside Goshogawara Tachineputa and Aomori Nebuta, Hirosaki Netpua is one of the best summer festival of Aomori.
