Iwakuni Art Museum, located on the other side of the Kintai-kyo Bridge in Iwakuni city, Yamaguchi Prefecture, features glassware, samurai armor, ceramics, and the furniture of Iwakuni's feudal lords.
Once visitors cross the Kintai-kyo Bridge, they will see the statue of Kikkawa Hiroyoshi, the 3rd lord of Iwakuni. Behind Kikkawa’s statue is Kikko Park, a beautiful, spacious area blessed with nature. During the Edo Periods, the residences of the Kikkawa family were located here, in Kikko Park, with relatives living nearby. As a result, in addition to the fountains and spectacular natural surroundings, Kikko Park contains the ruminants of former samurai residences and museums displaying historic artifacts of this part of Japan.

Iwakuni Castle (岩国城) located on Shiroyama castle and being half surrounded by a “natural moat,” the Nishiki River, is a mountain castle. Being able to see Kintaikyo Bridge and approaching visitors, the castle, originally built in 1673, was thought to be located in an a most advantageous location.

What is near MCAS Iwakuni Xavier Memorial Church was built in Yamaguchi Iwakuni base
450 years ago, overcoming many obstacles and suffering, a man came to this land to spread the Gospel, the message of Jesus Christ. The dazzling whiteness of this church is but a reflection of that man's purity of heart, its twin towers jutting into the sky, a hymn to his endurance.
Sound forth, you, bells. For ages on end, keep proclaiming to the world Jesus' message of peace and happiness.
Xavier Memorial Church was built in Yamaguchi in 1952 in honour of St. Francis Xavier, the first man to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ in Japan. The church became one of the main visiting sights in town and was widely liked by Christians and non-Christians alike. Unfortunately, it burned to ashes on Sept. 5, 1991. After that, thanks first of all to the unstinting support of the citizens of Yamaguchi and to the generosity of many other people all over the world, the present basilica was finally completed on April 29, 1998.
This memorial church, keeping alive Xavier's memories, has become a flashing beacon irradiating the joy of the Gospel not only in Yamaguchi but everywhere in Japan. Philippines, sailors Japan Community Relations MCAS Iwakuni U.S. Navy MWR, Suo-Oshima, Mochi Family, AIMD, Iwakuni, U.S. Forces japan,
