Yamaguchi Iwakuni Castle - 岩国城 - 4K Ultra HD : Believe it or not but this castle was actually destroyed 7 years after its completion in 1608! Indeed it was on an order from the Tokugawa Shogunate that enforced a ‘one-castle-per- province’ law (一国一城) that meant Iwakuni Castle had to be destroyed. It was only in 1962 that the actual castle was rebuilt and serves today as a small museum and tourist attraction.

Cross the Kintai Bridge, one of Japan’s 3 Great Bridges, and then head up to the top of the 200m mountain by ropeway. There’s a superb view from the castle tower and there are many sights to see such as the Important Cultural Properties in the park at the foot of the mountain.

Iwakuni Castle & Kintai-kyo (Brocade-sash Bridge)

Here's a video of my visit to Iwakuni castle (and the beautiful Kintai bridge.) The castle was built here following the battle of Sekigahara in 1601. Soon after (in 1615) the Tokugawa Shogunate ordered the decommissioning of this castle with its One country, one castle policy. The buildings at the base of the mountain would continue to be utilized for the administration of the domain.
The wonderfully crafted bridge came into existence in 1673. The wooden spans are regularly rebuilt to ensure its integrity and also to keep the skills alive to do such work.

Iwakuni Castle (岩国城） located on Shiroyama castle and being half surrounded by a “natural moat,” the Nishiki River, is a mountain castle. Being able to see Kintaikyo Bridge and approaching visitors, the castle, originally built in 1673, was thought to be located in an a most advantageous location.
Iwakuni Castle is associated with the Kikkawa family, who had it built early in the 17th century. However, seven years after its completion, Tokugawa Shogunate ordered its demolition. It was later reconstructed in the middle of the 20th century
Within the castle is a historic museum which displays of samurai swords, armor and other historic memorabilia. Displays of Kintaikyo Bridge and other famous Japanese bridges can be seen in the museum. From the observation deck on the top floors of the castle, visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of Iwakuni city.
Access Information:
5 mins walk to the ropeway station from Kintaikyo Bridge. After disembarking the ropeway, another 5 mins walk to the castle entrance.
Hours: 9:00 to 16:45 (entry until 16:30)
Closed: December 16th to 31st
Admission: 260 yen (castle only)
550 yen (ropeway round trip)
940 yen (castle, ropeway and bridge combination ticket)

During our trip to Hiroshima we decided to take a train to Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Iwakuni is known for its wooden arch bridge crossing over Nishiki River. The bridge was built in 1673, the bridge is located at the foot of Mt.Yokoyama where Iwakuni Castle sits at the very peak of the mountain.

Why huwwo, this video is from September of 2018. This is more like a visual diary than it is a vlog. I am far too awkward to talk to a camera around non internet people LOL so hopefully after I catch up on some old vlogs that I still really want to post, I can get better at vlogging and share better vlogs and upload more recent stuff lol But I just still want to share these anyway, ya know?
