Iwatsuki Ningyo Craftsmanship
Saitama’s Iwatsuki ranks number one in ningyo (doll) production (volume and value) in Japan. Both, the Iwatsuki Ningyo and Edo Kimekomi Ningyo crafted in Iwatsuki, are national designated traditional craftworks where each ningyo is carefully handmade by experienced and skillful craftsmen and artisans. The Iwatsuki Ningyo Museum, set to open on February 22, 2020, is established to celebrate and preserve ningyo history and culture. Iwatsuki is only a short train ride from Tokyo so drop by to find the most refined ningyo in all Japan.

Hina Ningyo Konosu, Saitama
March 3rd in Japan is known as Hina Matsuri or as many of us know it, Girl's Day! It is a day to celebrate healthy growth and happiness for girls. And the biggest thing that stands out on this day is probably the hina ningyo, or Japanese Girl's Day dolls. The two main dolls are the prince and princess. But when buying these doll sets they often come with several dolls that are displayed on a staircase-like stand (normally 7 levels). The setting is supposed to be a wedding with the prince and princess are placed on the top level.
This tradition goes back to the Heian Period (794AD-1192AD),which is over a thousand years ago. In Saitama there are few places that have a long history of hand-making these dolls. We're talking hundreds of years. Two cities that are very popular for Japanese dolls (not only Girl's Day dolls) are Saitama City (Iwatsuki) and Konosu City. Below is a picture of the Hina Ningyo display at the Konosu City Hall. It has 28 levels standing over 20ft (6m) tall with 1,700 dolls.

The temple is located near Ikaho hot springs and spa, so the temple is popular with people who visit the spa and other residents of the Shibukawa city.

古くから行われているさいたま市岩槻区（旧岩槻市）の古式子供相撲土俵入りは、釣上（かぎあげ）地区と笹久保（ささくぼ）地区で行われており、この双方が平成17年（2005）２月21日に「岩槻の古式土俵入り」として国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定されています。

Old Edo Town Kawagoe - Saitama ᴴᴰ ● 川越 - 埼玉 (2017 Edition)
► Here's a look at the street life in the old edo town Kawagoe on New Years Day. Kawagoe is also know as Koedo, (*Little Edo) as some of its streets - featured in the video - preserve the old beautiful castle town from the Edo period in the 16th. century.
It's a great example of old meets new in Japan, with plenty of architecture from bygone days - almost like being on a movie set of some samurai movie, if it wasn't for the cars passing by, breaking the illusion.
The area hosts a wide range of traditional old shops and restaurants, and if your feet are tired, why not take a tour around town by rickshaw? Kawagoe is located approx. a 1 hour train ride north of Tokyo by JR Saikyu Line. - Enjoy!
