Ixtapa, Mexico

Ixtapa is a city in the municipality of Zihuatanejo de Azueta, in the Mexican state of Guerrero. It is located 245 km (152 mi) northwest of Acapulco.
Ixtapa was nothing more than a coconut plantation until the late 1970s when Mexican government’s tourism development group decided that the Pacific coast needed a Cancún-like resort. The result is a long string of huge hotels backing a lovely beach, but little local community.

Fun time in Ixtapa, Mexico! Enjoyed the beach, food and the ocean. Great time with my family. If you ever have the opportunity to travel to Mexico, visit Ixtapa! You will love it. Ixtapa is a great beach with fun things to do. Zihuatanejo is the main town and there are good restaurants and beautiful beaches to go to. Enjoy Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico!

Trip to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo

We recently took a trip to Zihuatanejo in the Southwest of Mexico. We ate traditional Mexican cuisine, drank (a lot) of cocktails, surfed, played in the pool, played in the ocean, met lots of new friends, and drove like crazy people in golf carts... needless to say it was an incredible trip and we can't wait to go back!

Is Mexico Safe? - Surfing the Narco State (Zihuatanejo)

Is Surfing in mainland Mexico safe? Is it as dangerous as everyone makes out?

If you're not back by Monday, I'll post an ad for your job. The jokes came thick and fast from my work colleagues after I told them I was headed to Guerrero for six days.

My less adventurous friends and colleagues think it incredibly stupid to go to Mexico for a vacation. Like most Americans in the current climate, Mexico to them conjures up images of cartels, crime and murder. We have all seen the images or read the stories of bodies hanging from bridges, kidnappings and robberies.

Indeed, even some of my Mexican friends showed some caution in their expressions when I mentioned Guerrero. Since the jailing of El Chapo in the US, Mexico has become a maze of waring cartel factions, all bidding for power and money in the most violent ways possible. A simple google search will confirm everyone's fears and Fox news will portray Mexico as a warzone full of rapists and criminals.

My social media feed on the other hand shows images of pristine beaches, beautiful countryside and un-crowded waves for anyone willing to take a risk. So that's what we did, we took a risk and went to Cartel Country.
