Shimoda is a pleasant city on the Izu Peninsula. It has historical importance as the landing place of several of Commodore Perry's black ships in 1854, an event which marked the end of Japan's era of isolation and the start of diplomatic relations between the US and Japan. Effectively ending Japan's 200-year era of isolation from the outside world.
Shimoda Park is an attractive wooded park on a hill next to Shimoda's city center.
Fortifications for the defense of the city once stood on the hill, but only ruins remain. Today, Shimoda Park is the site of the Monument to the Opening of US-Japan Diplomatic Relations built in 1957, and more than one thousand ajisai (hydrangea), which bloom in June.

2020 Olympic Shuzenji Izu [修善寺 伊豆] | Japan / Izu
Shuzenji is located almost in the center of the Izu-hanto peninsula, on a hill surrounded by the Amagi Sugumo and Daruma Mt.
It is known as one of the major hot spring resort in Naka-Izu, where a lot of people love the atomosphere of quietness.

Come to Izu peninsular, and down to Shimoda. You'll be struck with beautiful ocean. Japan, after long shogunate seclusion, break open to the world, here. Onsen, sea foods... so much attraction.

DYA717 Feb 7, 2017 Japan Izu Mishima Shjuzenji -- I had a cabbage-tuna salad for breakfast with yogurt. Gotta watch da beltline. At around 8:15, I left the hotel and went to the train station tourist info office for some advice on my BURA-BURA un-plans. AU-WE! They don’t open until 9 a.m. So I just went jump on the Izuhakone train. It is a private company so a JR railpass wouldn’t work here. Was maybe 45 min. and cost 510-yen. Along the way, I saw Mount Fuji from various angles – uuuuuuuuu, really nice! Got into Shuzenji town, went to their tourist info office and got some tips. I must have looked like one old bugger as the young lady said that I should catch a bus and I told her I like to walk so I did. It was about a little over 1.5 miles going uphill to the Onsen part of Shuzenji. Actually, the young lady gave me good advice since this walk wasn’t very interesting. Shuzenji has the oldest onsens in this part of the country and was/is a favorite of Tokyo people or before them, Edo people. Visited a coupla famous temples, climbed up a hill to get to a nice viewing spot of Mount Fuji.
Got back to Mishima around 1:40, I skipped lunch to save some calories and had a NATTO roll for a snack. At 3 p.m. I figure I going beat anyone up to the 12th floor onsen this hotel keeps boasting about. Wow, was nice. I was the only one so I went snap away at a few pictures. I’m not sure this is just a plain old public bath or one real onsen bath with waters from a thermally heated, mineralized water from some volcanic source. Whatevers, the water was just a little hotter than tepid to me. I must be getting used to the really hot onsen waters. Didn’t feel like eating anything so I went to the convenience store (Family Mart) and got me a MA-NA-PU-A and one PI=ZZA PU-A – one had meat only it didn’t taste like those in Hawaii and the other had pizza fillings. ONO! OK, so I killed time waiting for the free saimin! Got downstairs at 9:25 p.m. to find I am #2 in line! Da nerve! The ramen was same as last night, ONO. I forgot my camera so you gotta be satisfied with last night rament picture. I was satisfied and called it a day!

Ito (伊東, Itō) is a famous hot spring resort town on the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula. Due to its easy accessibility from Tokyo, the town is partially quite built-up, but also offers some historic buildings in its center, such as the Tokaikan, a historic, former ryokan open to the public. Outside the town center, Ito offers quite impressive natural scenery with its cliffy coast and hilly terrain.
About ten kilometers south of central Ito is Izu Kogen, a popular villa district and sightseeing destination with many small museums, restaurants, Mount Omuro and the beautiful Jogasaki Coast.
Izu - Paradise of Flowers
The entrance to the Izu Peninsula is an easy one hour train ride from Tokyo. Tourists flock here for Izu's year-round mild climate, magnificent coastline and famous hot springs. The most popular destinations are the spots where many flowers bloom simultaneously in February – you can see plum, camellia, cherry, daffodil and rape blossoms. Plum and cherry blossoms flower earlier here than anywhere else in Japan, and early spring on the Izu coast is a picturesque sight.

On October 22, 2019, after the event of a daikan-yashiki in Izunokuni City, Shizuoka Prefecture, we moved to Izu City Day-trip Hot Springs and Yunokuni Kaikan to participate in Halloween events.

You can also purchase hot water from the hot spring stand at the one-day hot spring facility. Yunokuni Kaikan in Izu City is a natural hot spring facility for day trips. Facilities range from indoor baths, open-air baths, herbal baths, low hot spring baths, saunas, restaurants, multipurpose halls, shops, Japanese-style halls, and private rooms.
And various events and service day including the rose bath which is very popular with women are included every month. You can relax and relax while listening to the murmurof of the Kano River flowing nearby. In addition, you can bring back the hot spring bath at the hot spring stand.
You can buy 100 liters for 100 yen with 100 yen input type. This time it was three times at 15:,00 and 17:00 and 19:00, but when we arrived there at 14:00, the local shamisen was playing.

Senjojiki Coast in Izu Peninsula
Senjojiki (Thousand Tatami Mats) is a rocky coast in Izu Peninsula. It takes 3.5 hours by car. Also accessible by train and bus (*JR line from Tokyo station to Simoda station and 2 busses, but not so many busses.. You may have to hitchhike if you miss the busses.).
It's like a hidden place and you have to walk 40 mins from the nearest town Iruma where cars can be parked. It was a quarry for stones and was used for construction of the Odawara Castle's moat. Very nice sight!

Japan has drone laws and strict regulations. The area drones are allowed to fly is limited. I used my drone in line with the regulations and relevant laws. I also contacted to Minami-Izu Cho town office (16 May 2019) for additional confirmation and permission.

Welcome to day 2 of our cycling trip in Izu, Japan. Today, we'll be cycling from our Bicycle B&B to the infamous Cycle Sports Center (CSC).

Izu is a pretty popular tourist destination for cyclists and for regular Japanese people. I was pretty shocked by all of the narrow and busy roads, but there were also a lot of beautiful views along the way (coastal views and mountain views).
Stay tuned for part 2 of this day, where we go check out the Izu Velodrome and the road bike cycling course which was featured in the Yowamushi Pedal anime during their training camp.

Visiting Tokyo's Izu Islands
Did you know that Tokyo has islands? Yes, the prefecture (province/state) of Tokyo has a volcanic chain of islands called the Izu Seven Islands group. We stayed at Shikinejima (Shikine-jima), which is a small island 3 km long by 2.5 km wide that is located 160 km south of the city of Tokyo. To get there, we took an overnight ferry, where we slept on a carpeted floor.

Bicycle Amusement Park in Japan | Izu Cycle Sports Center
My wife and I went to visit the Cycle Sports Center (CSC) 自転車の国 サイクルスポーツセンター in Izu, Japan. This place is like a cycling amusement park, with a bunch of facilities, including a bunch of weird unique bikes, a road bike course, an indoor and outdoor velodrome, kids cycling courses, rollercoasters, and more.
This location will be the host of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic track and mountain bike races. The mountain bike course now is currently under development.

Shizuoka, Izu Peninsula, Mt. Omuro(大室山) tour 2019 (Osmo Pocket 4K)
Mount Omuro (大室山, Ōmuroyama) is an extinct volcano near the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula, south of central Ito City. It is shaped like an inverted rice bowl and has a beautiful silhouette that can be seen from most places in the Izu Kogen area. Mount Omuro is about 580 meters high and has a crater with a diameter of about 300 meters which takes about 15 to 30 minutes to circle on foot.
