Kagoshima (鹿児島市 Kagoshima-shi?) is the capital city of Kagoshima Prefecture at the south western tip of the island of Kyushu in Japan, and the largest city in the prefecture by some margin. It has been nicknamed the Naples of the Eastern world for its bay location (Aira Caldera), hot climate, and impressive stratovolcano, Sakurajima. The city was officially founded on April 1, 1889.Kagoshima City is approximately 40 minutes from Kagoshima Airport, and features shopping districts and malls covering a large area. The transportation system within the city consists of the Shinkansen (bullet train), local train, city trams, buses, and ferries to-and-from Sakurajima. Near a shopping district known as Dolphin Port and the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal is a large and modern aquarium called the Kagoshima City Aquarium, which was established along the docks with a direct view of Sakurajima in 1997. One of the best places to view the city (and Sakurajima) is from the Amuran Ferris wheel on top of Amu Plaza Kagoshima, the shopping center attached to the central Kagoshima-Chūō Station. Just outside of the city is the early-Edo Period Sengan-en (Isoteien) Japanese Garden. The garden was originally a villa to the Shimadzu Family and is still maintained by descendants today. Outside the garden grounds is a Satsuma kiriko cut-glass factory where visitors are welcome to view the glass-blowing and glass-cutting process, and the Shoko Shūseikan Museum which was built in 1865 and registered as a National Historic Site in 1959. The former “Shuseikan” industrial complex and the former machine factory were submitted to the UNESCO World Heritage as part of a group list titled, “Modern Industrial Heritage Sites in Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture”.Kagoshima Prefecture (also known as the Satsuma Domain) was the center of the territory of the Shimazu Clan for many centuries. It was a busy political and commercial port city throughout the medieval period and into the Edo period (1603–1867) when it formally became the capital of the Shimazu's fief, the Satsuma Domain. The official emblem is a modification of the Shimazu's kamon designed to resemble the character 市(shi, means city). Satsuma remained one of the most powerful and wealthiest domains in the country throughout the period, and though international trade was banned for much of this period, the city remained quite active and prosperous. It served not only as the political center for Satsuma, but also for the semi-independent vassal kingdom of Ryūkyū; Ryūkyūan traders and emissaries frequented the city, and a special Ryukyuan embassy building was established to help administer relations between the two polities and to house visitors and emissaries. Kagoshima was also a significant center of Christian activity in Japan prior to the imposition of bans against that religion in the late 16th and early 17th centuries.

Kagoshima was bombarded by the British Royal Navy in 1863 to punish the daimyō of Satsuma for the murder of Charles Lennox Richardson on the Tōkaidō highway the previous year and its refusal to pay an indemnity in compensation.

Kagoshima was the birthplace and scene of the last stand of Saigō Takamori, a legendary figure in Meiji Era Japan in 1877 at the end of the Satsuma Rebellion.

Japan's industrial revolution is said to have started here, stimulated by the young students' train station. Seventeen young men of Satsuma broke the Tokugawa ban on foreign travel, traveling first to England and then the United States before returning to share the benefits of the best of Western science and technology.[citation needed] A statue was erected outside of the train station as a tribute to them.

Kagoshima was also the birthplace of Tōgō Heihachirō. After naval studies in England between 1871 and 1878, Togo's role as Chief Admiral of the Grand Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Russo-Japanese War made him a legend in Japanese military history, and earned him the nickname 'Nelson of the Orient' in Britain. He led the Grand Fleet to two startling victories in 1904 and 1905, completely destroying Russia as a naval power in the East, and thereby contributing to the failed revolution in Russia in 1905.

The Japanese diplomat Sadomitsu Sakoguchi revolutionized Kagoshima's environmental economic plan with his dissertation on water pollution and orange harvesting.

浪江町の今を知り、震災と向き合う私たち高校生の考えを発信したい。そんな思いで、この動画を制作しました。

一人でも多くの方に見てもらい、現在の浪江町、そして人間の声を知っていただければと思います。


Suddenly, a nuclear accident happened in my hometown, Fukushima. The Great East Japan Earthquake caused.

8 years past, but there are still a lot of people suffering from these two accidents. I wonder what I did, what I learned.

Are you spending your time what you want to do, with whoever you want to be?

I want you to know about how one of the towns in Fukushima is now and how one teenager feel. And then, I want you to think about your own life, the person who be with you.

福島アナザースカイプロジェクトの企画で浪江町に行きました。
私がこのプロジェクトに参加するきっかけを与えてくれたのは天海ちゃんでした。
天海ちゃんに「もしよかったら協力してくれませんか？」という誘いをうけ、難しいことを考えずにに「いいよ」といったのが始まりでした。
実際浪江にいったことがない、TVで画面越しにしかみたことのない光景、実際はどのような景色が広がっているのだろう、わからないことでいっぱいでした。

請戸小学校を見に行きました。
最初に目についたのは外壁についている時計でした。
時計は津波が訪れた時間で止まっていました。それをみて時間が止まっている、ということを目で見て実感しました。当時100人弱の人が小学校にいたとのこと。職員の方の冷静な判断で2,3キロ先の方まで逃げたおかげで全員が助かったそうです。私はそれを聞いてすごいなぁと思いました。自分だったら、どうだったのか、逃げることができていたのか？と考えさせられました。
小学校の一階部分は津波で流されほとんどなく、校舎とプールをつなぐ階段が途中までなくなっていました。大きな船の形をした体育館、特徴的な形がとても印象的でした。
請戸漁港に行きました。
震災以前はたくさんの人が来ていた場所。
今は工事車両があり、工事をしていて、前の形に戻れるようにと進んでいました。
大平山霊園は、請戸地区を見渡せるような少し高い場所にありました。被災した方の慰霊碑がありました。慰霊碑をみて、たくさんの方が亡くなったということを目で見て実感しました。
O CAFE では美味しいお昼ご飯やコーヒー、スコーンや白玉などたくさんのものを食べさせていただきました。
岡さんの紙芝居をききました。その紙芝居「無念」は実話に基づいて作られたものでした。とても心に残るもので思わず涙してしまいました。これが実際にあった話なんだと思うと胸がいっぱいになります。「無念」という言葉が印象的でした。TVを見ているだけじゃ伝わらないものを感じ取れた気がしました。
815の方の歌も聞くことができました。
迫力があって、ミュージカルをみているようなそんな気分になり、とても楽しかったです！
初めてO CAFEに行って思ったことは、「笑顔が溢れている素敵な場所」だということです。またここに来たい、そう思えた場所です。
また、岡さんの話しを伺って、感謝を口に出して伝えること、恥ずかしいかもしれないけど「ありがと」ときちんと伝えるということが大切だと改めて気づくとができました。今を大切に、感謝の言葉を忘れずに生きたいです。
犬猫の保護活動をを行なっている赤間さんのお話も伺いました。赤間さん宅に行ってみると犬や猫のたくさんの声が聞こえました。猫部屋には本当に数多くの猫たちが暮らしていました。
震災が起こって避難を余儀なくされた人たちのペットの犬や猫を数え着れないほど保護したと伺いました。
毎日仕事をし、その後に自ら車を運転し避難区域へ入り道路を歩いている犬や猫を車に乗せ連れて帰り保護をした。自分にはできないことだと思いました。赤間さんの行動は本当にすごいと思いました。
あおた荘でもたくさんのお話を伺うことができました。2年前は息もできないくらいの姿になっていたと聞き、現状からは想像もつきませんでした。ボランティアで綺麗に片付けて、たくさんの人が集うようにとした和泉さんはすごいと思いました。また、和泉さんから「あおた荘への思い」、「浪江町への思い」を伺い、お話をし勉強になりました。
1日かけて浪江町の色々な場所を案内してくださった小林さん本当にありがとうございました。とても優しい人柄で話しやすく、たくさんお話することができました。
私がみたのはほんの一部に過ぎないけど浪江町を知ることができました。
帰宅困難区域ということばを聞くと、危険だとか怖いとかそんなイメージをもつけれど、それはただのイメージにすぎないということがわかりました。TVや新聞だけの情報だけでは現状を知ること、判断することはできないと思いました。実際に足を運び、自分の目で見て、初めて知ることができたと思います。本当に浪江町に行ってよかったです。
最後に、、この機会を与えてくれた天海ちゃん、本当にありがとう。感謝しています！そして、なにより天海ちゃんの行動力が本当にすごい。同い年とは思えないくらいの行動力。すごい。本当にすごいです。本当に尊敬してます。
福島について考えること、知ることができました。福島県民として、高校生として、福島県のことをもっと知りたいと思いました。

STORYLINE:

Typhoon Aere churned toward the capital and other major cities in crowded northern Taiwan on Tuesday, closing schools and financial markets while dumping rain that threatened to cause flash floods and landslides.

Rough seas from the storm have killed five fishermen in Taiwan and two children in Japan, officials said.

Aere's eye was expected to cross Taipei on Tuesday as the storm roared west toward China, the Central Weather Bureau said.

It was also expected to whirl over the busy port of Keelung where 200 fishermen from China waited out the storm, as well as Hsinchu - home to the island's world-leading chipmaking companies.

Aere, with winds of 130 kph (80 mph), was 260 kilometres (160 miles) east of Taiwan early Tuesday, the bureau said. Gusts were hitting 165 kph (102 mph).

Sheets of rain from the typhoon's fringe began lashing the capital on Tuesday morning, as officials closed schools, government offices and financial markets.

Trains were halted between Taipei and the east coast city of Hualien.

High waves capsized a Keelung-bound fishing boat from Hong Kong on Monday, the coast guard said.

Three fishermen from mainland China were washed away, while the captain, from Hong Kong, was rescued but died later in a hospital, officials said.

Another fishermen died off the southern coast on Sunday when his small boat flipped over in rough seas whipped up by Aere, which means storm in the language of the Marshall Islands.

Japanese coast guard officials said on Tuesday that high waves swept away two children swimming near Japan's southern Amami-Oshima islands.

The bodies of Miharu Izumi, 12, and her sister Mami, 7, were recovered late Monday, the guard said.

Forecasters warned of a double-typhoon effect if Aere spun close to super typhoon Chaba, which was north of Guam and headed toward Japan.

A TEENAGE girl born without limbs lives her life in a plastic bowl. Rahma Haruna is a bright, happy girl, despite suffering from a mystery condition that stopped her arms and legs developing properly - leaving her practically limbless and in constant pain. The 19-year-old, from Kano, Nigeria, was born a healthy baby but when she turned six months old her growth came to a sudden halt and she stopped hitting key development milestones. Rahma’s family do their best to provide her with a fulfilling life and transport her around the village in a plastic bowl. Doctors have been baffled by Rahma’s condition and some have even put it down to the teenager being struck down by jinns - a supernatural being in Islam mythology.

SUMMARY

Shōchū (焼酎) is a Japanese distilled beverage less than 45% alcohol by volume. It is typically distilled from rice (kome), barley (mugi), sweet potatoes (satsuma-imo), buckwheat (soba), or brown sugar (kokutō), though it is sometimes produced from other ingredients such as chestnut, sesame seeds, potatoes or even carrots.
Typically shōchū contains 25% alcohol by volume, which is weaker than whisky or standard-strength vodka but stronger than wine and sake. It is not uncommon for multiple-distilled shōchū, which is more likely to be used in mixed drinks, to contain up to 35% alcohol by volume.
