J. Lohr Vineyards and Wines, American Winery of the Year
J. Lohr Vineyards and Wines was honored to be chosen as the 2010 American Winery of the Year by the editors of Wine Enthusiast Magazine for its ongoing contributions to the wine industry.
“J. Lohr has been a continual force in the California wine industry for nearly four decades, passionately championing the Central Coast winegrowing regions of Paso Robles and Monterey County, and offering great leadership within the wine industry. In addition, the people at J. Lohr have dedicated themselves to producing high-quality wines, while making significant contributions in the areas of sustainability, education and social responsibility. We are thrilled to acknowledge them as our 2010 American Winery of the Year.” -Wine Enthusiast
Wine Country RV Resort & J Lohr Winery (Wine Tasting) (99)
We have been anticipating this visit to Paso Robles for ever!
We have enjoyed J Lohr and Liberty School wines for many years and it was nice to have a chance to visit the wineries. J Lohr's tasting was our favourite.
We also enjoyed the campground. The cons: the front desk staff was very chilly. I imagine they get a lot of people coming through and take their jobs for granted. I would still like to be greeted with a smile and a kind word. Also, the Passport America deal was only valid on Monday to Thursday.
The pros: The grounds are beautiful and well kept with pic-nic tables, a gym, jacuzzi, pool, clean bathrooms and showers. They were also located close to the different wineries. The J Lohr winery was right up the street!
If you like you can organize a shuttle to visit the different wineries at the front desk. I personally avoided the front desk staff when possible.
We would definitely stay here again despite the poor service. The location is too good to pass up.

Paso Robles still feels like a farm community at heart. If it can be sourced local, it is. Everyone knows each other at the local bar. And the locals are proud of the region, even if it doesn't get the recognition it absolutely should: Paso makes some incredibly undervalued grape juice. Go local on this episode of V is for Vino.
