Ken-Dog Discovers Papua New Guinea Aug. 19, 2015
After leaving our hotel this morning, we were taken to the Aracicas Coffee Roaster Company, with a full tour of the coffee process. It is a process of milling the cherry, to get the beans from the fruit then drying it. The next step is to get the parchment off the bean and then separating the beans by quality size next to the roaster for a specific product. Before our next stop along the road we asked Perry to stop as we watched a man wrap a banana cluster or bunch. I’m unsure why he was doing this, but sometimes this is done for propagation. We then continued on our way to an Asaro village to be entertain by the famous Mudmen and some of us participated in a bow and arrow shot out. Next stop was the JK McCarthy Museum for a little cultural history (no pictures inside) that was later followed by a quick up the street shopping experience or as I found out later the Bilum Market that I found to be very colorful with interesting people. The last stop before going back to our hotel was at the Raun Raun Theater that looked like a turtle from the outside and had a beautiful built stage and seating area all from local wood or tree logs for seats. The tour gave me an inside view of all the prep work that goes into a production of staging an event.
