Take a Tram from Matsuyama JR Station to Dogo Onsen Shikoku, Japan
I can't help but burst into song at the sight of a tram or trolley. The easy to use tram system began for us at JR Matsuyama Train Station. TIP: Matsuyama has two train stations! Suburban lines leave from the other station.

My Summer On Shikoku Island: Exploring the Japanese Countryside
Leaving the urban sprawl of Tokyo, we headed for the rural countryside of Shikoku Island. It was peaceful, hot, and full of cats. Oh, and there was this giant museum of fake art.
Can't forget the castles. So many castles... I'm fortified now.
Don't forget to subscribe for more adventures.
Notes: There is Kochi City and Kochi Prefecture. I mainly refer to the city.

JAPANESE ADVENTURES: Iya Valley, Naruto, & More! Shikoku, Japan Part 2!
Hi, everyone! This is the second half of our trip around Shikoku. It was just as amazing as the first! We went to the eastern side of Iya Valley to check out two of the last three vine bridges there! We passed through a Scarecrow Village on the way! The citizens of the village joined together and made countless scarecrows, each one set up to mimic the citizens doing their jobs, or standing around town together in little groups. They're equal parts creepy and adorable!
The largest vine bridge is Iya Kazurabashi. That one is the main one and very touristy. 90% of people go there, but we chose to see the other two vine bridges (Oku-Iya Kazurabashi) and had them all to ourselves! It was beautiful. We were surrounded by this amazing nature. Crystal clear water, trees, and mountains.
All too soon, we had to leave. We slept at a hostel in Takamatsu and headed to Naruto the next morning. Naruto is famous for their whirlpools. We went to Onaruto Bridge to check them out. Unfortunately, they were really calm when we were there. I recommend going during the Spring Tides when they're at their biggest!

Nishi-Awa Tourism Area
Within the embrace of lofty mountains, time stands still.
Nishi-Awa is a pure land of unchanging patterns and human warmth.
When you arrive here, you’re struck by a sense of unexplored seclusion. It’s a place where one valley leads into another, disappearing into the mist. Little hamlets with patches of farmland cling to the steep mountainsides. There’s nowhere else in Japan like it.
Pathways wind their way right beside the farmhouses of these close-knit communities, where total isolation and limited resources have fostered indissoluble bonds and a spirit of cooperation. From the Heian period, the people of Nishi-Awa have welcomed strangers warmly, accepting them as hospitably as one of their own.
The unique culture that arose on these high mountain slopes fascinated scholar of eastern culture Alex Kerr, who saw the valleys of Iya as a Japanese Shangri-La. Today, many visitors from around the world come to experience its peaceful charm.
This is Japan! - Island Shikoku
Video report of visit to Shikoku: city of Kochi and nature park Iya Valley with rugged mountains and impressive gorges. This part of Japan hasn't been discovered by the mainstream tourists yet. It's relatively quiet and offers good opportunities for some good hiking.
