Jabaquara Beach - Ilha Bela - São Paulo - Brazil
Sailing to Secret Beaches in Brazil. Must See São Paulo State Island. Ilhabela is Beautiful.
We spent a day doing a day trip around Ilhabela, Brazil visiting a couple of different beaches by sailboat.
We picked up the boat in town. Unfortunately we went on this boat trip on a Saturday and it was just packed with people. The cost of the trip was about $20 USD per person (but didn’t include any food or drinks just transport).
We made two beach stops during the day, the first was to a beach called Praia da Fome. It was a smaller beach and had one restaurant.
The second stop was to Jabaquara Beach and was bigger than the first beach and there were a few different restaurants here as well as some bathrooms and amenities.

We’ve found the most amazing hidden gem in Brazil, a beautiful tropical island in Sao Paulo state called Ilhabela!
As soon as we arrived in Sao Paulo we hopped on a bus and a ferry and made our way to Ilhabela. It took about 5 hours by bus to get there (and a very short ferry ride).
On our first full day there we rent some bikes to explore the island. The main town has fantastic bike paths which made it so easy to get around. We biked outside of town and stopped at some beaches along the way.
Ilhabela seems to have some beautiful metal sculptures throughout the town and along our bike ride we found a whole series together that we think depicts the crucifixion of Jesus.
The bike paths ends at a gorgeous and quiet beach (Praia do Pequeá) that had one restaurant and hardly any other people. Here we flew the drone and enjoyed a caipirinha (a Brazilian cocktail).

Ilhabela is known as the Capital of Sailing and has some of the most beautiful shorelines in Brazil, with 39 beaches of different styles.
It is home to the world's largest Atlantic Forest reserve, with 85% of protected area. The island is a byword for rich flora and fauna, in addition to beautiful waterfalls.
Its history if full of legends of pirates and corsairs, but today it is known for its sports events, such as Rolex Ilhabela Sailing Week, the largest sailing meeting in South America, and X-Terra, the local stage of the global adventure race.
The city has many options of hotels, rich gastronomy and an enticing nightlife.
Getting there
Ilhabela is 213 km from São Paulo.
Car: Ayrton Senna--Carvalho Pinto System (SP-070) until the entrance to Rodovia dos Tamoios (SP--099), then drive to Caraguatatuba and take Rio--Santos (SP-055) towards São Sebastião, where you can take the ferry boat that crosses the channel to the island of Ilhabela.
