Several Bombings Rock Syrian Coastal Cities, Dozens Killed
At least 78 people were killed on Monday when several bombings rocked two Syrian coastal cities, state media reported.
The first bombings rocked the city of Jableh in the countryside of the coastal city of Latakia in northwestern Syria.
As many as 45 people were killed when four blasts ripped through the city, the national Syrian TV reported.
Two of the bombings rocked the gates of the main bus station in Jableh, said the report, adding that the third occurred near the electricity directorate, while the fourth was caused by a suicide bomber who detonated herself at the emergency room of the National Hospital in Jableh.
The bombed cars carried a total of around 250 kilos of explosives, which have seriously damaged nearby buildings and vehicles. The authorities are busy clearing at the sites.
I was working at the gas station at 09:15 and heard a loud bang from the parking lot at 09:30. As you can see, the glasses of the building were all shattered. We rushed to save people, and many students, women and the elderly were blown to pieces. It was so terrible, said Ghadeer, a witness.
The bombings left heavy casualties and property losses. Ambulances rushed to the blasts sites to help the wounded. However, a female terrorist wormed her way into an ambulance and later set off a bomb at the emergency room of the National Hospital in Jableh, which killed 16 people.
The ambulance sent the injured here. I helped carried them out with some others. An explosion took place in the hospital when I carried them off the ambulance. We left the hospital for around five minutes on concern of another explosion and later helped doctors saving the injured again, said Basel, a witness.
A witness said that the hospital had already transferred all the patients to other hospitals in Jableh and Latakia after the bombing.
Following the Jableh blasts, four bombings rocked the coastal city of Tartus, which is only 100 km from Latakia.
The national TV said three bombings took place near a bus station in Tartus city and were caused by suicide bombers and a car bomb. More on:
