20191002 - Kenworth T659 PM48 carved up by a motorcycle (southern outlet, Launceston, Tasmania)
On Wednesday October 2nd 2019 whilst coming down the Southern Outlet (or Inlet given he was coming into town?) on the engine brake our driver in PM48 was carved up by a motorcyclist in a terrible hurry!
It is a common occurence for heavy vehicle drivers coming into Launceston from the north to be cut off and under taken by cars and motorcycles at the on-ramp that comes from the Bass Highway. This on-ramp really needs to be extended to the overpass to allow cars coming onto the outlet sufficient time to accelerate up to speed for the run into town.
Currently there are talks about dropping the speed limit from the top down to 80kph however this will fix nothing as many drivers lack the ability to merge safely. And, if they get stuck in the slow lane they simply lack the patience to stay there for the run down the hill... this causes them to make risky lane changes at the top of the outlet which ultimately results in a number of collisions occuring here every year.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
David Crockett (August 17, 1786 – March 6, 1836) was an American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier, and politician. He is commonly referred to in popular culture by the epithet King of the Wild Frontier. He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives and served in the Texas Revolution.
Crockett grew up in East Tennessee, where he gained a reputation for hunting and storytelling. He was made a colonel in the militia of Lawrence County, Tennessee and was elected to the Tennessee state legislature in 1821. In 1827, he was elected to the U.S. Congress where he vehemently opposed many of the policies of President Andrew Jackson, especially the Indian Removal Act. Crockett's opposition to Jackson's policies led to his defeat in the 1831 elections. He was re-elected in 1833, then narrowly lost in 1835, prompting his angry departure to Texas (then the Mexican state of Tejas) shortly thereafter. In early 1836, he took part in the Texas Revolution and was killed at the Battle of the Alamo in March.
Crockett became famous during his lifetime for larger-than-life exploits popularized by stage plays and almanacs. After his death, he continued to be credited with acts of mythical proportion. These led in the 20th century to television and movie portrayals, and he became one of the best-known American folk heroes.

Lions roar into AFL top four, Roos and Demons enjoy wins
Lions defeat GWS Giants, as North Melbourne and Demons post AFL round 16 victories The Lions have beaten the Giants to move a step closer to securing a finals berth, while the Kangaroos toppled the Saints in Hobart and the Demons celebrated winning a nail-biter against the Blues at the MCG. Lions down Giants to jump into top four Brisbane has delivered the greatest indication yet it will not only return to the finals but is capable of doing some damage, having overwhelmed GWS in a 20-point upset win at Sydney's Giants Stadium. The Lions claimed the Giants' top-four spot on Sunday in impressive fashion, snatching a 20-point lead at quarter-time before withstanding several challenges to prevail 14.10 (94) to 11.8 (74). External Link: @AFL tweet Lions Eric Hipwood and Luke Hodge both played on after copping painful knocks, with the former clearly restricted but still bobbing up with a clutch third-term goal after a pack mark. The hosts also had their injury woes, most alarmingly Josh Kelly's iced-up leg problem that ended his evening during the fourth quarter. Brisbane's first win at the venue came in front of 12,268 spectators. The challenge for Chris Fagan, barring an unexpected capitulation in the second half of 2019, is no longer whether he can end Brisbane's 10-year finals hiatus. Fagan's charges, who next face Port Adelaide away then four teams currently outside the top eight, have a golden chance to lock up a double chance in September. External Link: GWS v Brisbane summary GWS forwards Toby Greene and Jeremy Cameron kept their side in the contest after a slow start, kicking a combined four goals in the second term, while Harry Himmelberg finished with a match-high four. But the Lions had match winners all over the park in a spiteful affair, emphatically answering those still doubting their ability to perform outside Queensland against potent teams. Gun midfielder Lachie Neale's 150th match was one to remember, featuring 31 disposals, six tackles, seven clearances, one goal and most likely three Brownlow votes. Harris Andrews, tackling GWS for the first time since suffering a severe concussion and bleeding on the brain because of a hit from Cameron in 2018, and Hodge marshalled a desperate defence superbly. External Link: GWS v Brisbane stats Lincoln McCarthy booted three goals in arguably the best performance of a brilliant first season with Brisbane. The Lions moved the ball with precision and pace, while their pressure resulted in uncharacteristic errors from some of the Giants' most-reliable stars like Heath Shaw. Shaw's short kick-out in the second term was easily picked off by Dayne Zorko, and Cam Rayner kicked the resultant goal before letting Shaw know all about it. The Giants confront Richmond, Collingwood and Port Adelaide in a stretch that might make or break their premiership credentials. Sunday's contest started with one of the most-bizarre score reviews of the year, when GWS youngster Harry Perryman c
