Swansea City Association Football Club is a Welsh professional football club based in the city of Swansea, South Wales that plays in the Premier League. Swansea City represent England when playing in European competitions, although they have represented Wales in the past. They play their home matches at the Liberty Stadium.
The club was founded in 1912 as Swansea Town and joined the Football League in 1921. The club changed their name in 1969, when it adopted the name Swansea City to reflect Swansea's new status as a city.
In 1981, the club were promoted to the original Football League First Division. It was during the following season they came close to winning the league title, but a decline then set near the season's end before finishing sixth, although a club record. It was from here the club suffered a relegation the season after, returning to the Football League Fourth Division a few seasons later, then narrowly avoided relegation to the Football Conference in 2003. Prior to playing home matches at the Liberty Stadium, the team had previously hosted at the Vetch Field. The Swansea City Supporters Society Ltd owns 20% of the club, with their involvement hailed by Supporters Direct as the most high profile example of the involvement of a supporters' trust in the direct running of a club.
In 2011, Swansea were promoted to the English Premier League, becoming the first Welsh team to play in the top division since its formation in 1992. On 24 February 2013, Swansea beat Bradford City 5-0 to win the 2012-13 Football League Cup (the competition's highest ever winning margin for the final), winning the first major English trophy in the club's history and qualifying for the 2013-14 UEFA Europa League.

Code Blue Murder
OnlineStreaming is back for daily content between 8pm - 10pm daily in 2020 as of Monday 6th January!
Code Blue: Murder
The Murder of John “Jack” Williams
“Mum came running in, she didn’t even need to say anything, and she said it was my uncle Jack. And I just knew something wasn’t right. I knew he had gone and I don’t know why. At that moment I didn’t know what to feel - it didn’t feel real.” – Emma Williams, niece of John “Jack” Williams
This new two-part documentary series in ITV’s Crime and Punishment season tells the story of how detectives solved two vicious murders - from the first ‘Code Blue’ call to the crime scene, through to the convictions of the killers.
With extraordinary access to the multidisciplinary South Wales Police operation that brought the perpetrators to justice, Code Blue: Murder delves into the anatomy of murder investigations into the killings of Katherine Smith and John “Jack” Williams.
In the second programme, detectives are called out to an address in Swansea where the body of John Williams, known as Jack, has been found tied up with head injuries, apparently the victim of a brutal attack. The only potential motive officers can find is a substantial amount of cannabis scattered around the property - including what looks like a growing set-up in the attic.
The force’s head of major crime, Det Supt Richard Jones, tells his team: “There’s an awful lot to be done, it’s really about the detail to build this picture about his movements. I am sure the answer is out there somewhere. It’s a category A, it’s undetected and as things stand we’ve got no suspects.”
A neighbour provides a lead when she says a distinctively-dressed woman came to her door asking where Jack lived on the night he died. Then the woman is seen with two other men on another neighbour’s CCTV coming out of Jack’s house.
When a detective recognises the woman, Gemma Owens, the police realise one of the men with her could be Jonathan Donne - who is well-known to them and has reportedly previously attacked cannabis cultivators in their homes.
Cameras follow as police track them down, and they arrest Owens, still wearing her distinctive coat. But Donne somehow escapes, and the hunt is on to find him. Officers hear Donne has a machete and may have been trying to get hold of a gun, and detective inspector Dean Llewellyn says: “There are firearms police in place now, if cornered he could come out potentially with weapons. Officer safety is paramount and public safety is paramount. We’ve got to get this dangerous individual off the streets.”
Simon Cairns, who owns the car in which Donne and Owens travelled to Jack’s house, is also arrested as the net closes in. Officers building the case against Donne prepare for a potentially dramatic takedown at a house where he has reportedly holed up on the outskirts of Swansea.
Meanwhile, Jack’s family is left to reflect on his memory, and his brother David says: “He was my best friend, he was my confidant. The old saying is you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone, and that’s very true. He’s always in my mind and in my heart.”
At trial, Donne was found guilty of murder and robbery and jailed for a minimum of 31 years. Owens and Cairns were acquitted of all charges.

Code Blue: Murder
The Murder of Katherine Smith
“I saw three people coming towards us, and my words to them were, ‘Don’t say anything’s happened to her.’ And they just looked [at me]. And I just screamed the place down. I close my eyes and all I can see is Katherine trying to get to me.” – Katherine Smith’s mum, Debbie
This new two-part documentary series in ITV’s Crime and Punishment season tells the story of how detectives solved two vicious murders - from the first ‘Code Blue’ call to the crime scene, through to the convictions of the killers.
With extraordinary access to the multidisciplinary South Wales Police operation that brought the perpetrators to justice, Code Blue: Murder delves into the anatomy of two separate murder investigations, into the killings of Katherine Smith and of Jack Williams.
In the first programme, detectives are called out to a flat in Cardiff where the body of young mother Katherine Smith, aged 26, has been found on the floor with stab wounds. The key suspect is her boyfriend of six weeks, Anthony Lowe. Detectives know the first 48 hours is key in terms of gathering evidence and picking up suspects – but Lowe has gone missing.
Officers tracking Lowe’s mobile phone receive notification that it is ‘pinging’ off cell towers in the neighbouring police area around Bristol – and he is still sending text messages to Katherine’s family. Cameras follow as detectives race to Bristol to try to arrest him - as they pick up a text in which he threatens to commit suicide. But then he turns the phone off.
Senior investigating officer Det Chf Insp Rob Cronick says: “We desperately need to get answers from Lowe. With his phone now not responding and the fact he’s threatened to commit suicide, there’s a real chance we may be too late.”
He later turns up 30 miles away in Weston-Super-Mare and texts Katherine’s mum asking if her daughter is okay or not. The force’s head of major crime Det Supt Richard Jones says: “That would indicate he doesn’t know she’s dead, I mean he’s hoping then now by the look of it, that she’s possibly still alive. But previously he’s been saying he’s killed her. He’s been thinking about it, he’s more hopeful now that she might be alive, which is a way in, potentially, for negotiators.”
After a dramatic takedown outside a supermarket, Lowe is arrested and taken back to South Wales, where cameras follow as he is taken into custody. Now detectives need to build their case against him. In interview, Lowe submits a statement to detectives saying that after an argument Katherine had punched him and he had headbutted her, before he left the house. He denies stabbing her and says another person has keys to Katherine’s flat. Richard Jones says: “We believe and I still do, despite this, my working hypothesis is that he’s murdered her and left the scene at that time. And more importantly if he’s headbutted her to the face with such force that she’s fallen to the ground, there’s no corresponding injuries that would match on her face or nose.”
Detectives keep Lowe in custody while they build their case - making discoveries about him, like the fact he contacted a series of ex-girlfriends while on the run. One of them agrees to meet a detective and reveals a series of key personality traits about Lowe which help push the case on. The detective who goes to see the woman, named as ‘Jane’, says: “They met on plentyoffish.com which is a dating website, and with Tony Lowe, he presented himself as a 36-year-old when in reality he’s 46, he gave his name as Tony Moore when in fact his name is Anthony Lowe, he said he had interests in things that he didn’t have interests in and the persona that he gave was false. So when Katherine met him, she thought she was meeting somebody that wasn’t actually the person she was going to meet. And the person she did meet ended up murdering her.”
While Lowe clams up in the interview room, detectives discover a deleted video on his phone which provides direct evidence that they hope will put him behind bars for life.
