Berkeley Springs - Bath, West Virginia - 74.3 Thermal Degree Springs
Berkeley Springs State Park is located in the center of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. The Bathhouse first opened in 1930. Since then, thousands have enjoyed the variety of baths and treatments in the warm mineral waters that flow from the springs at a constant temperature of 74.3 degrees Fahrenheit. The springs discharge from five principle sources and numerous lesser ones, all within a hundred yards, approximately 1,000 gallons of clear, sparkling water per minute. Bathing in the springs has been popular since before the days of George Washington.
For the record the average ground water temperature is 54 degrees for this region of the United States.

I highly recommend of The Town of Spa's including the Country Inn is a fantastic Hotel next to the historic spring, I highly recommend the spa package. Remember deep relaxing therapeutic massage consisting of long connecting strokes, kneading, and friction. This decreases stress, tension, and fatigue, improves blood and lymphatic circulation, and calms the nervous system. The water has perfect chemistry for the body...Again Berkeley Springs is a fantastic getaway destination for relaxing....I highly recommend attending the 30th Anniversary of the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting that is scheduled this coming February 21-23, 2020 also located at the Beautiful Country Inn at Phone 304-258-1200

Upper Terrace Drive in Yellowstone
This is the short, one-way road that you can drive around Mammoth Hot Springs. We noticed that one of the springs/formations is encroaching on the road, which allows you to get far closer to it than you can anywhere else in Mammoth. A nice change from the (necessarily) pervasive boardwalks and railings in the park.

JacksonRiverTrail
This video clip is about the Jackson River Trail in Covington, VA.. It is part of a series produced by Bicycling Through History.
The series was originally produced on DVD and it is now gradually migrating to online distribution via YouTube. The DVDs were very popular with libraries. Many librarians decided to procure either individual DVDs or the whole series for their collections because they serve several purposes. They provide a multi-media presentation of categories in History, Travel, Geography, Music, Sports, Fitness and Adventure. The series was developed to encourage additional reading or research in all these topics.
Online versions fall into two separate groups. There were Quicktime videos uploaded before YouTube became popular. Those primarily feature nautical themes and winter sports. The clips uploaded more recently to YouTube are modified versions of some DVD segments and some newer clips in High Definition (HD).
ALL the music is licensed. It is Buy-Out music licensed through Flying Hands. Most productions take place in Public Areas, such as trails, thorofares or parks where permission to take video has either been sought or is not required.
Bicycling Through History presents programs showing popular cycling trails that provide a unique perspective. Many people ride recreational trails and probably do not know the history associated with them. The purpose of the series is to acquaint viewers with the landmarks that can be see while cycling, hiking, inline skating or horseback riding. In many cases, these trails follow the same routes taken by important people in history or else the routes demonstrate some other significant event(s).
The series combines Reenactors with Period Music and other Accoutrements to impart facets of history that might otherwise be totally missed in reading books or conducting research in specific areas. The pace of cycling is similar to the modes of travel back in earlier times. Driving in an automobile will simply not provide the same experience as cycling, hiking or horseback riding. Once viewers know what to look for, they can enjoy their travels along these same routes even more.
Online clips will have links in chronological order from top to bottom. More clips will be added as they become available. Please return to the site for additional information and updates -
Incredible Mountain Roadside Waterfall Near Covington, Va #4
Vid #4: Recorded 8/2/08. About nine miles north of Covington, Virginia, on Rt 220, is this spectacular mountain range and valley vista, complete with a waterfall that you can actually walk down to... and beneath! The walk down the hill is VERY dangerous and treacherous, so you WILL NEED hiking boots or good shoes. Bring your camera... you're going to need it! Look for my other videos showing the same waterfall, as seen from down below! It had just rained, only 30 minutes before I had recorded this, so that may have added to the waterflow. If you go during an unusually dry season, you will likely see less of a show. Be sure to see my other related videos of the falls.

Shenandoah Valley in 1861: Prior to Yankee Invasion
The beautiful Shenandoah Valley in 1861, just prior to invasion by the United States - and the death and destruction which the Federal army brought on the region.
Everything had a thrifty look, wrote a Confederate soldier in the Shenandoah Valley in 1861. The horses and cattle were fat and sleek; the large barns were overflowing with the gathered crops; the houses looked comfortable; and the fences were in splendid order. It was a truly a land of milk and honey.
Nature had indeed been kind to this verdant strip of land between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains. Its hot springs and magnificent scenery attracted travelers from as far away as Europe....
The Indians who lived in the Valley called it Daughter of the Stars. And the prosperous settlers, many of them pacifist Mennonites and Dunkers from Pennsylvania and Maryland, considered themselves blessed.
These quiet, religious people worked diligently to improve their land. They crushed Valley limestone to build macadam roads and harnessed streams and rivers to generate power for machine shops, foundries, and textile and flour mills. Fields in the Valley produced wheat at nearly double the yields of farmland elsewhere in Virginia. There were no great plantations and few slaves, no conspicuously wealthy families and little poverty. The settlers of the Shenandoah Valley felt that theirs was a world apart, boundless in potential and stimulating to the human spirit.
The advent of the Civil War [sic] threatened to shatter this special world between the mountain barriers. The Shenandoah's strategic location and sheer abundance made it a military objective for both sides. Not only was the Valley a natural corridor between North and South, but its fields could feed armies. Forage was everywhere.
Soon the sound of cannon would echo from ridge to ridge as the Valley became a giant battlefield. As the superb scenery opened before us, a Federal soldier wrote, there was no foreshadowing of the terror, the desolation and death that were to follow.

Yellowstone National Park - Driving the Virginia Cascade Scenic Drive (2018)
Yellowstone National Park is an American national park located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful geyser, one of its most popular features. It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is the most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.
Native Americans have lived in the Yellowstone region for at least 11,000 years. Aside from visits by mountain men during the early-to-mid-19th century, organized exploration did not begin until the late 1860s. Management and control of the park originally fell under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Interior, the first being Columbus Delano. However, the U.S. Army was subsequently commissioned to oversee management of Yellowstone for a 30-year period between 1886 and 1916. In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which had been created the previous year. Hundreds of structures have been built and are protected for their architectural and historical significance, and researchers have examined more than a thousand archaeological sites.
Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468.4 square miles (8,983 km2), comprising lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-elevation lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano on the continent. The caldera is considered an active volcano. It has erupted with tremendous force several times in the last two million years. Half of the world's geothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone. The park is the centerpiece of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining nearly-intact ecosystem in the Earth's northern temperate zone. In 1978, Yellowstone was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hundreds of species of mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles have been documented, including several that are either endangered or threatened. The vast forests and grasslands also include unique species of plants. Yellowstone Park is the largest and most famous megafauna location in the contiguous United States. Grizzly bears, wolves, and free-ranging herds of bison and elk live in this park. The Yellowstone Park bison herd is the oldest and largest public bison herd in the United States. Forest fires occur in the park each year; in the large forest fires of 1988, nearly one third of the park was burnt. Yellowstone has numerous recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping, boating, fishing and sightseeing. Paved roads provide close access to the major geothermal areas as well as some of the lakes and waterfalls. During the winter, visitors often access the park by way of guided tours that use either snow coaches or snowmobiles.
