Tonbridge company apologises to jobseeker for 'oddball' comments
A company has apologised to a graduate jobseeker for calling her a home educated oddball in comments accidentally attached to an email.
Anna Jacobs, from Horsmonden, Kent, had applied for a position at Tonbridge-based Tecomak Environmental Services.
But alongside the company's response were comments suggesting she was worth an interview if only for a laugh.
In an email to Ms Jacobs, Ross Black of Tecomak said he understood it must have been upsetting and apologised.
Below the formal invitation for the role of office administrator, the initial e-mail from Tecomak had a number of comments attached.
They included a suggestion she could be a biscuit short of a packet or a left-wing loon tree hugger, as well as a home educated oddball.
Mr Black said: Clearly the comments were informal and not to the high professional standard you would expect from a company like ours.
I understand that it must have been upsetting to read the comments and I apologise on behalf of the company and the employees concerned.
He added: We genuinely felt your application and CV was interesting and you were shortlisted from a long list of over 40 candidates.
We would be more than happy to interview you as one of the strongest candidates that have applied and, if you were to accept an interview, you can be assured that your application will be treated fairly and appropriately.

Caldecott Medal
The Randolph Caldecott Medal annually recognizes the preceding year's most distinguished American picture book for children, beginning with 1937 publications. It is awarded to the illustrator by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association. The Caldecott and Newbery Medals are the most prestigious American children's book awards.
The award is named for Randolph Caldecott, a nineteenth-century English illustrator. Rene Paul Chambellan designed the Medal in 1937. The obverse scene is derived from Randolph Caldecott's front cover illustration for The Diverting History of John Gilpin, which depicts Gilpin astride a runaway horse. The reverse is based on Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie, one of Caldecott's illustrations for the nursery rhyme Sing a Song of Sixpence.

Hull City XI 2-1 SportPesa All Stars
On a night to showcase Kenyan football with the game being beamed back live to Africa, it was a Hull City XI that came out on top with young Elliot Holmes netting a first half opener before Haron Shakava’s own goal fired the home side to a 2-1 win.
Academy leading lights Josh Tymon and Jarrod Bowen were the headline names on the team-sheet as the fruits of the Tigers’ Academy system were given their chance to shine. The pair, who have nine Premier League appearances between them this season, were joined in the starting eleven by Greg Luer, who continued his return from a lengthy injury lay-off having scored twice for the senior side last season, and Greg Olley who made his first team debut last August.
Tigers legend Dean Windass made a one-off return after being named on the bench, while the rest of the squad was made of players from the Club’s U23s, U18s and U16s.
On a cold, wet and windy night it was the Tigers who created an early chance when Olley’s pass released Ben Hinchliffe inside the box but his low left-footed show went inches wide of the far post.
There then followed a horrible clash of heads between Max Sheaf and Wesley Onguso, leaving the City man unconscious. After a lengthy delay, Sheaf was stretchered from the field although he did regain consciousness before being taken to hospital as a precaution. Holmes was his replacement.
The young Tigers didn’t let the break in play affect them as they took the lead with 22 minutes on the clock, Holmes making an almost instant impact. The goal owed much to Olley, who advanced nicely through the middle before playing the ball wide right. When a cross came over towards the far post, Holmes was there to head it back into the far corner of the net.
The All Stars had a chance to make a quick reply when Mark Makwata broke through the middle, but the striker dragged a low shot wide of the far post.
Ben Adamson almost doubled the home side’s lead when his header from Olley’s free kick was tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Patrick Matasi before Bowen sent a shot into the side-netting after Matasi had failed to deal with a deep cross into the box.
Bowen fired another chance over the bar after more good work from Olley before home goalkeeper Charlie Andrew was worked for the first time by Cliff Kasuti’s low shot.
The lengthy delay for Sheaf to receive treatment meant that ten minutes were added on at the end of the first half during which Andrew made a fine save to keep out Makwata’s 25-yarder.
It was a quiet opening to the second half with the All Stars applying a bit of early pressure from set-pieces but the young Tigers back line appeared well-drilled to deal with balls into the box.
Andrew made a good save with his legs to deny Allan Wanga after the SportPesa captain had burst into the box before an over-hit back-pass from Olley almost resulted in a horrible own goal. Thankfully for the home side’s captain, the ball went wide of the post.
It was an own goal at the other end of the field that resulted in the Tigers doubling their lead in the 66th minute. Hinchliffe was sent racing away down the left and when he crossed low to the near post, defender Shakava could only divert the ball into his own net.
Humphrey Mieno missed a great chance to pull a goal back for the All Stars soon after, heading wide a delicious cross from substitute Moses Odhiambo when it looked easier to score.
Windass was given a warm welcome when he was introduced to the action 13 minutes from time and he sent a free kick just wide from 25 yards soon after coming on.
Mieno pulled a goal back for the All Stars two minutes from time with a low strike from 25 yards but there was to be no late comeback, with Bowen almost adding a third for the Tigers in added time with a shot against an upright.
Hull City XI: Charlie Andrew, Stephen Akbas, Ben Adamson, Jacob Greaves, Josh Tymon, Ben Hinchliffe (Mason Wilson-Rhiney 84), Greg Olley, Max Sheaf (Elliot Holmes 20 (Dean Windass 77)), Jarrod Bowen, Marc Kelledy, Greg Luer (Charlie Dunkerley 46).

Ashley Benson CONFIRMS Cara Delevingne Relationship On Instagram
More Celebrity News ►►
The nature of Ashley Benson and Cara Delevingne’s relationship has FINALLY been revealed.
Looks like those rumors were true, y’all!
After months of playing it coy and keeping things on the down low, it seems as if Ashley Benson was finally ready to reveal the status of her relationship with Cara Delevingne. And of course, Ashley did it in the form of an Instagram comment – well, multiple Insta comments to be exact.
On Monday, Cara posted a fierce photo of herself in a gorgeous gold Balmain dress to Instagram and it didn’t take long for Ashley to post some very telling comments. In one comment Ash simply wrote, “mine” and then she followed that one up with QUOTE, “I can see your” with three sushi emojis and THEN she commented one more time with a poop emoji.
While it wasn’t an adorable couple-y photo confirmation, those Insta comments are probably as much of an official confirmation as we’re going to get. Ashley actually talked to People magazine recently and revealed that she tries to keep her romantic relationships as private as she can.
Ashley said QUOTE, “I think it’s the best way in any relationship. I’ve always been very private about them, and I think it’s just better. I mean it’s hard, I don’t know, you kind of can’t get away from that if you’re in the public eye. I just kinda try to keep myself as private as possible.”
Well, Ashley and Cara may have kept a tight lip on their relationship these last couple of months, but those flirty comments -- along with the fact that they were spotted kissing each other at London’s Heathrow airport just last month -- are more than enough proof that Ashley and Cara are more than just friends.
What do you guys think? Were Ashley’s comments definitely a confirmation that she and Cara are dating or do you think we’re all just looking wayyy too much into this? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Then click over to the right to watch another new video and don’t forget to subscribe to our channels! Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Doctor of Philosophy
Doctor of Philosophy, abbreviated as PhD, Ph.D., D.Phil., or DPhil in English-speaking countries and originally as Dr.Philos. (for the Latin philosophiae doctor or doctor philosophiae), is in many countries a postgraduate academic degree awarded by universities. The academic level known as a Doctorate of philosophy varies considerably according to the country, institution, and time period, from entry-level research degrees to higher doctorates. A person who attains a doctorate of philosophy is automatically awarded the academic title of doctor.
In the context of academic degrees, the term philosophy does not refer solely to the field of philosophy, but is used in a broader sense in accordance with its original Greek meaning, which is love of wisdom. In most of Europe, all fields other than theology, law, and medicine were traditionally known as philosophy, and in Germany and elsewhere in Europe the basic faculty of (liberal) arts was known as the faculty of philosophy. The doctorate of philosophy as it exists today thus originated as a doctorate in the liberal arts at the Friedrich-Wilhelms Universität, the buildings of which are today used by the Humboldt University of Berlin, becoming common in large parts of the world in the 20th century.
