The Lost Coast as seen from Highway One, California
A nice enough photograph that moves but this is really another experiment in deinterlace. I imported 1080i from my camera (Panasonic HDC-SD9) into iMovie 09 and with minimal editing (just select the footage) exported it as a QuickTime movie using AIC codec set to preserve interlacing. I then deinterlaced using the free DES deinterlacer and exported as a QuickTime movie using AIC progressive. I did the video editing in QuickTime trying to avoid any sneakiness on iMovies part and exported as H264. Best quality key all at about 700 MB per minute made my antiquated G5 with a mere 4GB memory shudder a bit so I settled for High at key every 15 and at about 250 MB per minute it looks pretty good. Now lets see what YouTube does with it. Remember, it may take a couple of days for them to crunch on it. Be sure you are watching 1080p. (You might want to go out for dinner and a movie while it downloads.)
P.S. This is nowhere near as sharp as it was three years ago. My guess is that it has been re-encoded to reduce the file size.

San Simeon State Beach in February, 2011
Look around at San Simeon State Beach on this February late afternoon. We walked the pier and observed what people were doing, as well as the waves crashing.

California Coast HWY 1 Big Sur Country
Driving along the California Coast from San Luis Obispo to Carmel Fall of 2010. With a stop at the Big Sur Jade Festival, The Treebones Resort and the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, This scenic drive is surely a must see destination. Not only is there the beautiful ocean views but this wonderful part of America has many other visual treasures such as the majestic Redwoods, waterfalls, sunsets and classic bridges to cross.

Isn't it wonderful?

Sand Dollar Beach Day Trip.mov
Ron and I visited one of our favorite beaches in California early in 2010. This is a sacred place to us, so please respect the awesomeness and cleanliness of this natural wonder if you visit.
We traveled on Hwy 46 West to the PCH, north past Cambria, San Simeon and Ragged Point, stopping to capture footage of a few key vistas.
The elephant seals are always both spiritually enthralling and just plain entertaining.
When we arrived at Sand Dollar Beach, it was already mid-afternoon. That's what happens when you sleep in after a late night of wine and engaging togetherness.
Every step of this path to and on the beach is amazing, especially for people like me who love rocks!
The tide was high and ebbing as slowly as it wanted, so there was no rock climbing, unless you count finding a semi-dry place to eat our picnic lunch (described in detail in the video).
Leaving was easy because the warming sunlight quickly dissipated and the chill set in, and also difficult because the roaring of the Pacific Ocean and otherworldly views drown out any pain and suffering, leaving one with the refreshing sense of smallness, gratitude, cleansing and excitement about the new and uncertain future.

ANNENBERG BEACH HOUSE GRAND OPENING
On April 25 2009, the Annenberg Community Beach House opened at 415 PCH in Santa Monica, California. Originally the site of Marion Davies' Fabulous Beach House (via William Randolph Hearst), the only original structures still remaining are a guest house and the main swimming pool - both of which have been fabulously restored. This is some footage I took from the grand opening party. More info on America's only public beach club can be found at; and at; smconservancy.org
