Jaffa Gallery puts Arab and Jewish art on display
The Jaffa Port Salon exhibits the works of both Arab and Jewish artists, in order to spark a broader conversation.
At the Jaffa Port Salon, co-director Yair Rothman exhibits Arab and Jewish Israeli artists together in the same space. We want to have conversations of art, and people coming to openings together, mixing together, like we want to have in our country, he says.
The unusual gallery showcases the works of local artists as well as those who live in other cities and in small towns in the Galilee and the Negev.
Watch here to find out how the Arab and Jewish artists feel about having their creations displayed in a common venue.

JAFFA Tel Aviv Museum of Antiquities (Jaffa Museum)20/09/2012
JAFFA Museum of Antiquities (Jaffa Museum)20/09/2012

Just recently opened. And 'well done for tourists and there are excursions there. It 'located under the Kedumim Plaza, which is the main square in Jaffa.
Small enough to raise appreciation for artifacts without exhausting themselves. architecturally enchanting. Often art exhibitions are on offer by adding to the visual feast and cultural
The site of Yafo, ancient Jaffa (Gk. Joppa; Ar. Yafa), is situated south of the modern city of Tel Aviv on the coast of Israel between Caesarea and Gaza, about 60 km northwest of Jerusalem. The site consists of an ancient tell built on a kurkar sandstone ridge overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and during various periods also included a sprawling lower city. As a major tell and port along the coast of the southern Levant its occupation reflects most periods from the Middle Bronze Age through the present. Jaffa, therefore, joins a select number of sites that shared extensive connections not only with neighboring sites in the coastal plain but also with distant maritime commercial centers throughout the Mediterranean world. More than 120 archaeological excavations and numerous conservation projects have been carried out here, some of them still continuing in these days.

Gros, Napoleon Bonaparte Visiting the Plague-Stricken in Jaffa
Baron Antoine-Jean Gros, Napoleon Bonaparte Visiting the Pest House in Jaffa, 1804, oil on canvas, 209 x 280 inches (Musée du Louvre, Paris) Speakers: Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker
Note: Gros was a student of the Neo-Classical painter David, however, this painting, sometimes also titled, Napoleon Visiting the Pest House in Jaffa, is a proto-Romantic painting that points to the later style of Gericault and Delacroix. Gros was trained in David's studio between 1785-1792, and is most well known for recording Napoleon's military campaigns, which proved to be ideal subjects for exploring the exotic, violent, and heroic. In this painting, which measures more than 17 feet high and 23 feet wide, Gros depicted a legendary episode from Napoleon's campaigns in Egypt (1798-1801). On March 21, 1799, in a make-shift hospital in Jaffa, Napoleon visited his troops who were stricken with the Bubonic Plague. Gros depicts Napoleon attempting to calm the growing panic about contagion by fearlessly touching the sores of one of the plague victims. Like earlier neoclassical paintings such as David's Death of Marat, Gros combines Christian iconography, in this case Christ healing the sick, with a contemporary subject. He also draws on the art of classical antiquity, by depicting Napoleon in the same position as the ancient Greek sculpture, the Apollo Belvedere. In this way, he imbues Napoleon with divine qualities while simultaneously showing him as a military hero. But in contrast to David, Gros uses warm, sensual colors and focuses on the dead and dying who occupy the foreground of the painting. We see the same approach later in Delacroix's painting ofLiberty Leading the People (1830). Napoleon was a master at using art to manipulate his public image. In reality he had ordered the death of the prisoners who he could not afford to house or feed, and poisoned his troops who were dying from the plague as he retreated from Jaffa.

Exploring Tel-Aviv: Eretz Israel Museum / מוזיאון ארץ ישראל
******Available in HD******
Hi, everybody!
Today we'll have a small history of art/history lesson, visiting Eretz Israel Museum in Tel-Aviv, Israel.
I didn't manage to go through everything there as this museum is pretty big, but I'll try to show you the most interesting bits,
I really like the Glass Pavilion there:
The Eretz Israel Glass Pavilion takes visitors on a unique journey through time, traveling back thousands of years to the earliest days of glassmaking in this region. Donated from the rich private collection of Dr. Walter Moses, who founded the Eretz Israel Museum in 1958, this rare and beautiful assemblage of glass has been enhanced over the years by exciting new acquisitions and significant donations.
Visitors to the Glass Pavilion are drawn not only by the enchanting displays of ancient glass objects, but also by the presentation of the history, range and intricate art of glassmaking. Among the unique features are fragile relics of glass dating from biblical times, as well as some of the earliest blown glass discovered from the Roman period. Contributing greatly to the study of the originsGlass Pavilion of glassmaking, and especially the important invention of glass blowing, the Pavilion highlights the crucial role played by this region in the discovery of glass and its production.
We also went to the Man and His Work Center.
The Center displays the traditional material culture of the Land of Israel in numerous spheres of daily life, among them agriculture, crafts, domestic work, design, and decoration. The Center is rooted in the 1930s when Professor Avitsur, after whom it is named, began studying the subject and collecting ethnographical artifacts and utensils illustrating traditional ways of life.
Archaeological finds show that work tools, artifacts and production methods have scarcely changed over thousands of years of history and have been used until recent years in the Arab localities, Bedouin encampments and by Jews living in the Land of Israel and neighboring countries. Most of the exhibits in the collection are ethnographical and relate to recent generations; nonetheless they are enlightening as they show life in ancient times as well.
The Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv, is a multidisciplinary museum that focuses on the history and culture of Israel through comprehensive permanent and temporary exhibits in the diverse fields of archeology, ethnography, post and philately, folklore, Judaica, traditional crafts, and popular art, cultural history, and local identity.
The museum, which is one of the third largest in Israel, is spread over an area of some 20 acres, and comprises about 15 buildings and various installations. Hundreds of thousands of items are housed in the diverse museum collections, among them numerous and rare treasures.
In the center of the museum, adjacent to the buildings and exhibit spaces, stands Tell Qasile - an ancient archeological mound dating from the 12th century BCE. Additional ancient relics, such as mosaics, oil presses, an ancient wine press, flour mills, etc. can be found in the gardens surrounding the site.
In addition to the ten permanent exhibitions and ancient sites, the museum displays about 20 temporary exhibits every year, and also conducts symposiums, lectures and meetings with curators and scholars in various fields. The museum site also houses an innovative planetarium, halls of various sizes, lecture rooms and workshops, a cafeteria, and a gift shop.
