St. Peter Monastery
This Roman Catholic church, built in Baroque style, was constructed in the late 19th century on top of a 13th-century Crusader castle, which was, in turn, built on top of the original settlement's acropolis. Today, it is Jaffa's most well-known landmark. The name of the monastery is in honor of the Apostle Peter's visit to Jaffa. From the courtyard here, a staircase leads down to the vaulted chambers of the Crusader castle.

If you are coming from Tel Aviv, do yourself a favor and walk your way down to Jaffa through the promenade. With 10 months of sun, it’s almost always time to start your day by the beach. If you are staying in a hotel in Mid - Tel Aviv, the walk to Jaffa Harbor should take you more than 20 minutes.
Right at the beginning of the harbor, if you stop and tun your gaze to the sea, you’ll be able to spot the Andromeda rock, named after a princess from Greek Mythology, whose Mother, Cassiopeia chained her to that rock as a sacrifice to Poseidon’s sea creature.
A couple minutes’ walk further will bring you to Jaffa port. Here you can grab delicious and fresh sea food, Take a boat ride and if you have the time, go to Na’Laga’at, one of a kind Art center for integrating people with disabilities to society.
climb your way through the port’s History filled Magical little streets, which serve as a home to many Art galleries, nifty little gift shops and Museums, all the way up to St. peter’s church.
Walk your way through Kikar Kedumim with a cup of freshly grained coffee or a scone of ice cream and when you cross the whishing bridge to th Ha’Pisga gardens, make sure to stop, touch your Zodiac sign, look at the sea and make a wish. A local legend has it, that it just may come true.
If you hadn’t had lunch yet, head down to the Flea Market, where you can work your appetite just a little bit more, bargaining for vintage items, trinkets and little gems. Finding a place to eat would prove easy, as the market is ubiquitous with café’s and authentic middle eastern restaurants.
Alternatively, you can grab a bite in one of the many Wonderful Bakeries along and around Yefet street, - one of the main arteries of Jaffa - and head right back up to Ha’pisga gardens for a sunset you will not soon forget.
Jaffa is packed with after dark activities. Many of the restaurants and art galleries you already walked by are open till late including classical places like the Ha’Hamam and more. If you like nice places for a beer we recommend “ beit kandinof” next to H’apisga gardens, which is a renovated old house that serves today as a bar with several art galleries, which attract lots of burners and hipsters,
“Ramesses”, which is a bunch of united restaurants and bars in a lovely pedestrian area, next to the clock tower circle, and “Shaffa” bar which locates in one of the alleys int the middle of the flea market.
Here’s the tip we promised you at the beginning of this video: If you are heading to Jaffa from Tel aviv or heading back to Tel Aviv at the end of your day in old Jaffa, make sure to pass through Ha’tahana. The old train station on the Jaffa-Jerusalem line, located between the sea shore and the Neveh Zedek neighborhood, which operated from 1892 to 1948. This was the first railway line between Little Asia and Egypt. A few years ago, the station was converted to a compound that offers a variety of activities for the whole family.

Jaffa (in Hebrew Yaffo) is an ancient port city in Israel, off the Mediterranean coast. Jaffa existed as an independent city for thousands of years until it was merged with Tel Aviv in 1949, and since then it has been one of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa boroughs.
At the time of the Crusades, Jaffa was a district of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. From then until the twentieth century, the city served as a major and important port in Israel. The establishment of Tel Aviv nearby, and the use of other ports, meant that the port was down. During the Mandate, the city was an important center for the Arab-Palestinian population. During the War of Independence, the Irgun forces and the defense occupied the city: About ninety percent of its Arab residents fled, and new Jewish immigrants settled there.
Jaffa Port is a port on the coast of Jaffa, and is considered one of the oldest ports in the world. He is already mentioned in the book of Jonah, as the port through which the prophet Jonah fled to Tarshish.

Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Jaffa is a southern, oldest part of Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality (since 1950), an ancient port city in Israel. Jaffa is famous for its association with the biblical stories of Solomon, Jonah and Peter. Jaffa is mentioned four times in the Hebrew Bible, as one of the cities given to the Hebrew Tribe of Dan (Book of Joshua 19:46), as port-of-entry for the cedars of Lebanon for Solomon's Temple (2 Chronicles 2:16), as the place whence the prophet Jonah embarked for Tarshish (Book of Jonah 1:3) and as port-of-entry for the cedars of Lebanon for the Second Temple of Jerusalem (Book of Ezra 3:7). Jaffa is mentioned in the Book of Joshua as the territorial border of the Tribe of Dan, hence the modern term Gush Dan for the center of the coastal plain. Many descendants of Dan lived along the coast and earned their living from shipmaking and sailing. In the Song of Deborah the prophetess asks: דן למה יגור אוניות: Why doth Dan dwell in ships?. After Canaanite and Philistine dominion, King David and his son King Solomon conquered Jaffa and used its port to bring the cedars used in the construction of the First Temple from Tyre. The city remained in Jewish hands even after the split of the Kingdom of Israel. In 701 BCE, in the days of King Hezekiah (חזקיהו), Sennacherib, king of Assyria, invaded the region from Jaffa. After a period of Babylonian occupation, under Persian rule, Jaffa was governed by Phoenicians from Tyre. Alexander the Great's troops were stationed there. It later became a Seleucid Hellenized port until it was taken over by the Maccabean rebels (1 Maccabees x.76, xiv.5) and the refounded Jewish kingdom. During the Roman repression of the Jewish Revolt, Jaffa was captured and burned by Cestius Gallus. The Roman Jewish historian Josephus (Jewish War 2.507--509, 3:414--426) writes that 8,400 inhabitants were massacred. Pirates operating from the rebuilt port incurred the wrath of Vespasian, who razed the city and erected a citadel in its place, installing a Roman garrison there. The New Testament account of St. Peter's resurrection of the widow Tabitha (Dorcas, Gr.) written in Acts 9:36--42 takes place in Jaffa. Acts 10:10--23 relates that while Peter was in Jaffa, he had a vision of a large sheet filled with clean and unclean animals being lowered from heaven, together with a message from the Holy Spirit to accompany several messengers to Cornelius in Caesaria. The boundaries of Tel Aviv and Jaffa became a matter of contention between the Tel Aviv municipality and the Israeli government during 1948. The former wished to incorporate only the northern Jewish suburbs of Jaffa, while the latter wanted a more complete unification. The issue also had international sensitivity, since the main part of Jaffa was in the Arab portion of the United Nations Partition Plan, whereas Tel Aviv was not, and no armistice greements had yet been signed. On 10 December 1948, the government announced the annexation to Tel Aviv of Jaffa's Jewish suburbs, the Arab neighborhood of Abu Kabir, the Arab village of Salama and some of its agricultural land, and the Jewish 'Hatikva' slum. On 25 February 1949, the abandoned Arab village of Sheikh Muanis was also annexed to Tel Aviv. On 18 May 1949, the Arab neighborhood of Manshiya and part of Jaffa's central zone were added, for the first time including land that had been in the Arab portion of the UN partition plan. The government decided on a permanent unification of Tel Aviv and Jaffa on 4 October 1949, but the actual unification was delayed until 24 April 1950 due to concerted opposition from Tel Aviv's mayor Israel Rokach. The name of the unified city was Tel Aviv until 19 August 1950, when it was renamed as Tel Aviv-Yafo in order to preserve the historical name Jaffa. The Clock Square with its distinctive clocktower was built in 1906 in honor of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. The Saraya (governor's palace) was built in the 1890s. Andromeda rock is the rock to which beautiful Andromeda was chained in Greek mythology. The Zodiac alleys are a maze of restored alleys leading to the harbor. Jaffa Hill is a center for archaeological finds, including restored Egyptian gates, about 3,500 years old. Jaffa Lighthouse is an inactive lighthouse located in the old port.

The new Old Jaffa Port
Music, art, food and sea air await you at the renewed Jaffa Port. The fishermen are still here, too.
This old port has become renewed and very welcoming, says a lunchtime patron of one of the eateries at the Jaffa Port in the southwest sector of Tel Aviv-Jaffa. It is a cultural gathering where you can really feel coexistence.
Funky, avant-garde artistic works decorate the area, and musicians liven the atmosphere. During the day, the port attracts families and visitors of all ages. After dusk it becomes a cool, romantic spot for couples to check out the pubs and shops.
But some things haven't changed from the olden days, as another port regular points out. If you come early in the morning you can still see the fishing boats coming in with the catch of the day.
Israel's Shenkar College of Engineering and Design produces design professionals who push the envelope.
Shenkar is a very unique school, says Prof. Yuli Tamir, president of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design ( on introducing a new exhibit about the Ramat Gan-based school.
It combines art, design and engineering. What is so special about this event is really a lot of people come here to see the state of the art. This is an opportunity to see the beautiful young creative side of Israel, the side we are very proud of. This is Israel at its best.
Deli Delatore, a graduate of the fashion design school, says, Shenkar College is the kind of place that pushes you to your limits.
But in the opinion of teacher Marlin Nowbakht, the creative push comes from the students themselves: I think Israeli students are very targeted on what they do....They're pushing the boundaries of their thoughts. They don't accept every answer as it is. And there is a lot of creativity within that breaking-the-boundaries kind of approach.
