We got to sit down with Glen and talk about all the fun they get to have down at Jailhouse Brewing Company in Hampton!
Glen even let us try out his tap system, which... may have been a bad idea. So much fun, though!

Opening our doors in 2009 as the 4th production brewery in the state, Jailhouse Brewing was one of the early adopters of craft brewing in Georgia. We’ve seen many changes and have adopted some of those innovations, but we stick to one principle: We believe in the little man, small towns and big flavor. It has driven us from day one. Come see our brewery where you can enjoy a variety of beer styles while hanging out in our indoor taproom space, The Watchtower, or our outdoor patio space, The Yard.

Jailhouse Brewery Tour
Our first stop was Jailhouse Brewery in Hampton, GA about an hour south from Lawrenceville. Jailhouse has been brewing their beer in a refurbished 1920's jail house since the fall of 2009. On tap for the afternoon were: Slammer Wheat, Mugshot IPA, Misdemeanor Ale, and my personal favorite of the day: 4D v.12 - Molly Ringwald (a Red IPA).

Hampton Smith Part 2 Georgia Lynching Rampage of 1918
In this video we take a look at the Lynchings via the media of the day, newspaper articles. These articles told of the tragedy that befell Hampton Smith and his wife. How he was shot and killed by one of his workers. How his wife was shot, but survived by crawling away and hiding until the man who shot them, and his companions, where done ransacking their house and ran off into the woods.
The newspapers also reported on how justice was served to the individuals involved in the shooting of Hampton Smith.
BUT, whose justice? Did the punishments fit the crime? You be the judge. Just remember, even back then, the media didn't always report the whole truth and the south was slightly biased.
