Barking deer in Panna National park in India
Barking deer in Panna National park in India
Panna National Park is a national park situated in Panna and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh. With an area of 542.67 kms, it is located at a distance of around 57 km from Khajuraho. The region is home to some of the best wildlife species in India and is one of the most famous Tiger Reserves in the country. The park is known worldwide for its wild cats, including tigers as well as deer and antelope. It was declared in 1994 as the twenty second Tiger reserve of India and the fifth in Madhya Pradesh and Panna was given the Award of Excellence in 2007 as the best maintained national park of India by the Ministry of Tourism of India. Due to its closeness to one of the best-known Indian tourist attraction in India, Khajuraho, the park is recognized as an exciting stop-over destination.
Terrain in Panna National Park is undulating and heavily forested with many streams and waterfalls. The climate of the region is tropical. Summers, somewhat scorching, are when one has the maximum chances of encountering the exclusive wildlife of this park. Winters are cold and comfortable and the temperature generally remains under 25°C. Monsoon touches this region in July and continues till mid-September.

Grey langurs near a waterhole of Panna National Park
Gray langur monkeys sitting near a waterhole and drinking water from it in Panna National Park, Madhya Pradesh, India.
Gray langurs or Hanuman langurs, the most widespread langurs of South Asia, are a group of Old World monkeys constituting the entirety of the genus Semnopithecus. All taxa have traditionally been placed in the single species Semnopithecus entellus. In 2001, it was recommended that several distinctive former subspecies should be given full species status, so that seven species are recognized. A taxonomic classification with fewer species has also been proposed. Genetic evidence suggests that the Nilgiri langur and purple-faced langur, which usually are placed in the genus Trachypithecus, actually belong in Semnopithecus.
Gray langurs are large and fairly terrestrial, inhabiting forest, open lightly wooded habitats, and urban areas on the Indian subcontinent. Most species are found at low to moderate altitudes, but the Nepal gray langur and Kashmir gray langur occur up to 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) in the Himalayas.
Hanuman refers to the Hindu deity Hanuman.
Panna National Park is a national park located in Panna and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh in India. It has an area of 542.67 km2 (209.53 sq mi). It was declared in 1994 as the twenty second Tiger reserve of India and the fifth in Madhya Pradesh, Panna was given the Award of Excellence in 2007 as the best maintained national park of India by the Ministry of Tourism of India. It is notable that by 2009, the entire tiger population had been eliminated by poaching with the collusion of forest department officials.
Panna National Park and the surrounding territorial forest area of North and South Panna forest division is the only large chunk of wildlife habitat remaining in North Madhya Pradesh in the otherwise fragmented forest landscape of the region.
The National Park is situated at a point where the continuity of the Tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests belt, which starts from Cape Comorin in South India, is broken and beyond this the Upper Gangetic Plains moist deciduous forests of the great Indo-Gangetic Plain begins. This area is the northernmost tip of the natural teak forests and the easternmost tip of the natural 'Kardhai' Anogeissus pendula forests.
The forests of Panna National Park along with Ken Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary and adjoining territorial divisions form a significant part of the catchment area of the 406 km (252 mi) Ken River which runs northeast for about 72 km (45 mi) through the park.

Khajuraho Jain temples
A walled enclosure in the east of Khajuraho village houses a set of Jain temples. Though the temples are dedicated to Jain Tithankaras such as Adinath, Parsvanath, Shantinath etc, the decoration and roch cut figures on their exterior speak of Hindu influences being used. The Jain temples lie in what is known as the eastern group of temples in this village.

Khajuraho and Panna Trip Raneh Falls
Raneh Falls and the Ken crocodile sanctuary Overview
The Raneh Falls are formed when the Ken river falls from the canyons of the Rewa Plateau about 20 km from Khajuraho. The Ken Crocodile sanctuary is in the vicinity of the Raneh Falls itself.
Panna district was created in 1950, shortly after Indian independence, from the territory of several former princely states of British India, including the states of Panna, Jaso, most of Ajaigarh, and a portion of Paldeo. Panna District was part of the new Indian state of Vindhya Pradesh, which was merged into Madhya Pradesh on 1 November 1956.
