Are people friendly in Indonesia? Walking around Jakarta Old Town, Indonesia
Be warned. If you are planning to visit Indonesia anytime soon you be surrounded by some of the nicest and welcoming people out there. It's impossible to walk anywhere in Indonesia and not have at least one person greet you with a smile, a handshake, or my favorite is people sharing their food with you. I spent the day walking around Kota Tua Jakarta Jakarta Old Town. There is so much going on you can easily spend the whole day exploring. There's site seeing, street foods, checking out the sidewalk sales, palm reading, snakes and more food. You could come and spend the whole day just eating without your tongue getting bored, at least mine didn't. But there's lots more to do than just eating. They have plenty of museums if you like that sort of thing. From Puppets and art, to history and banks. I tried the Puppet museum and the Museum of arts and ceramics. Both were cool. The puppets were interesting, cute and freaky. I could sense a few of the puppets eyes following me.. The museum of arts and ceramics was cool too if you like to look at a whole bunch of dang pots. Both of these were super cheap, so either way your not gonna be out much. I spent most of my time just walking around talking to people and watching people floatin around. I never met anyone that could levitate before. I saw about 6 people doing it here.

Jakarta Vlog 03: Touring around Old Town Jakarta (things to do for 1 full day in the city)
The final installment of my 3-Vlog series around Jakarta with AirAsia Filipino.
For our last day, we toured around Old Town Jakarta (Kota Tua Jakarta) where you can still see 17th century structures built during the Dutch's occupation. Think of it as Jakarta's version of the Intramuros (in Manila).
If you have a day to visit the city and want to know more about Jakarta's colonial history, this place is a good destination to kickstart your trip .
Here are the places we visited.
1. Museum Bank Indonesia
2. Museum Wayang
3. Jakarta History Museum
For food options try getting lunch at Cafe Batavia which is located at the square's 2nd oldest building. For dinner, Warung MJS (not in old town) is also a good option if you want try traditional Indonesian food (and you like them spicy).
It was a day full packed of activities (it was hard to squeeze everything w/in a span of 8 min).
Please don't forget to subscribe if you havent still. Also check out my site at kennethsurat.com and follow me on Instagram at instagram.com/kennethsurat.
Thanks again to AirAsia Filipino for bringing us to Jakarta!
XOXO

Jakarta Old Town - Old Batavia
Kota Tua Jakarta (Jakarta Old Town), officially known as Kota Tua, is a neighborhood comprising the original downtown area of Jakarta, Indonesia. It is also known as Oud Batavia (Dutch Old Batavia), Benedenstad (Dutch Lower City, contrasting it with Weltevreden, de Bovenstad (Upper City)), or Kota Lama (Indonesian Old Town). It spans 1.3 square kilometres within North Jakarta and West Jakarta (Kelurahan Pinangsia, Taman Sari and Kelurahan Roa Malaka, Tambora). The largely Chinese downtown area of Glodok is a part of Kota Tua.

Fatahillah Square | Kota Tua Jakarta | Old Town of Jakarta | Old Batavia
#JakartaOldTown also known as Old Batavia, or locally referred to as #KotaTuaJakarta , was the downtown area of the capital long ago. The Old Town depicts the occupation of the Dutch East India Company.
A walk through town will immerse you in streetscapes lined with buildings boasting architectural features of a bygone era and in some corners around town you’ll find what is considered among the best samples of Dutch colonial architecture in the region.
Consistent with the nostalgic aura of the old town, most of the museums in Jakarta are found within Kota Tua.
These include the Jakarta History Museum, otherwise known as the #Fatahillah Museum, after the admiral and national hero who gave Jakarta its primordial name, ‘Jayakarta’, literally ‘town of victory’.
Other museums include the Indonesian Maritime Museum, two bank museums namely Bank Mandiri and Bank Indonesia, the Wayang or Puppet Museum, and the Museum of Sculpture and Ceramic Arts Museum.
Most of these museums are former colonial buildings and restored by retaining much of their original #architectural features.
The ceramic #arts #museum for example, was a Dutch courthouse, and Fatahillah was once the town hall of Batavia. The national archive building, or Gedung Arsip Nasional, which can also be found here, was the former residence of Dutch East Indies governor general Reynier de Klerck.

Kota Tua | Old Town | Jakarta Indonesia 2019
We walked to this famous place called Kota Tua which is known as Jakarta Old Town in Indonesia. Quite a great place to stroll. We haven't got the chance to enter into the buildings because it was late when we arrived but then the place was so amazing even from the outside. Here's a quick look of Kota Tua in Jakarta.

About Kota Tua
Kota Tua Jakarta (Jakarta Old Town), officially known as Kota Tua,[1] is a neighborhood comprising the original downtown area of Jakarta, Indonesia. It is also known as Oud Batavia (Dutch Old Batavia), Benedenstad (Dutch Lower City, contrasting it with Weltevreden, de Bovenstad (Upper City)), or Kota Lama (Indonesian Old Town).
The site contains Dutch-style structures mostly dated from 17th century, when the port city served as the Asian headquarter of VOC during the heyday of spice trade.[2] It spans 1.3 square kilometres within North Jakarta and West Jakarta (Kelurahan Pinangsia, Taman Sari and Kelurahan Roa Malaka, Tambora). The largely Chinese downtown area of Glodok is a part of Kota Tua.

JAKARTA, Indonesia Highlights | Travel Vlog
I just spent a week in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Aside from working, here is everything I got up to. I stayed at an Airbnb which was close to Grand Indonesia mall so I went there quite often, one night to watch the sunset from the Skye Bar. I saw Monas, went inside the Istiqlal Mosque, the largest in Southeast Asia, saw the Old Town and spent a day at the Taman Mini park. Despite initial challenges, I had a good time.
