Pradosham | Mangala Aarti | Pradosha vazhipadu | Sri Rathnagirswarar Temple
Pradosham Sri Rathnagirswarar Temple, Besant Nagar, Chennai dated 6th July 2017.
haktha Mandali (Regd) owns and manages Sri Rathnagiriswarar Temple in Besant Nagar catering to the spiritual needs of a large number of devotees in South Madras.
In 1969 the residents of Besant Nagar formed a Society and later registered it under the Societies Registration Act in 1972 under the name 'BHAKTHA MANDALI (REGD). The various aims and objectives of this Society included place of worship for the welfare of the people in and around Besant Nagar.
With this objective, Sri Paramacharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt was approached to seek His blessings for constructing a small temple. He blessed the project and foretold that the devotees would find a Sivalinga in the seashore off Thiruvanmiyur coast. He directed that this idol could be installed and a temple constructed. After a search for over three months, the devotees found the Siva Linga. Sri Mahadeva Iyer (father of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt in his poorvashrama) helped the devotees in retrieving the idol from the seashore and brought it to Besant Nagar. Sri Mahakalikudi Ramanatha Swamigal installed on the sacred day of Maha Sivarathri on the 7th March 1970, the Sivalinga at the place where the temple stands now.
Sri Paramacharyal of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt named the Siva Linga as 'SRI RATHNAGIRISWARAR' and asked the devotees to construct a pucca temple with His con-sort 'SRI ARALAKESI'. Sri Paramacharya instructed that the' temple be constructed in line with the ancient temple at the Ayyarmalai in Kulitalai in Trichy District.
Lord Rathnagiriswarar faces West as in the case of Sri Kapaleeswarar and Sri Marundeeswarar temples in Mylapore and Thiruvanmiyur respectively. Another very special feature of this temple is that the Siva Linga is installed exactly opposite to the Rudrabhoomi (the cremation ground in Besant Nagar) as desired by His Holiness Sri Paramacharya.

About Coimbatore Vs Vellore
Vellore
Vellore had the previlege of being the seat of the Pallava, Chola, Nayak, Maratha, Arcot Nawabs and Bijapur Sultan Kingdoms. It was described as the best and strongest fortress in the Carnatic War in the 17th Century. It was witnessed the massacre of European soldier during the mutiny of 1806.Vellore is the Head-Quarters of Vellore District which is well connected by Rail and bus routes to major towns of the neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. The history of the District assumes a great significance and relevance, as we unfold the glorious past. The Monuments found in the district give a vivid picture of the town through the ages. In the 18th Century Vellore District was the scene of some of the decisive battles fought in Ambur 1749 A.D., Arcot 1751 A.D. and Vandavasi 1768 A.D. as a result of the long – drawn struggle between the English and the French for Supremacy. One of the monuments of Vellore is the Fort. A very close examination of the stone inscriptions suggests that the Fort in all probability might have been built during the rule of Chinna Bommi Nayak (1526 to 1595 A.D.). The Fort is one of the most perfect speciments of Military architecture in South India. The Jalakandeswarar Temple inside the Fort is a very fine example of Vijayanagar architecture. The Kalyanamantap on the left of the entrance, with intricate carvings and delicacy of execution bears testimony to the engineering marvel and advanced state of sculpture of the times. Another landmark that has put Vellore on the Centre stage of Medical world is the Christian Medical College & Hospital.Vellore is the Head-Quarters of Vellore District which is well connected by Rail and bus routes to major towns of the neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.
