The Jaldhaka River (Pron:/ˌdʒælˈdɑːkə/) (Nepali: जलढका खोला) is a trans-boundary river with a length of 192 kilometres that originates from the Kupup or Bitang Lake in southeastern Jaldhaka River Sikkim in the eastern Himalayas and flows Jaldhaka River through Bhutan and the Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar districts of West Bengal, India. Jaldhaka River At that point the river enters Bangladesh through the Lalmonirhat District and then joins with the Dharla River until the Dharla Jaldhaka River debouches into the Brahmaputra River near the Kurigram District. Jaldhaka River Due to the river's wandering over several Jaldhaka River international borders, only a small length of the river Jaldhaka River lies within Bangladesh.[1]
Geography[edit]
The Jaldhaka River is formed by the conjunction of three streams at Bindu, the end point Jaldhaka River of the Jaldhaka Police Station at Kalimpong district in West Bengal. The three streams are known as Bindu Khola, Dudh Pokhri and Jaldhaka Jaldhaka River that originates from the Kupup Lake, a small glacial lake in Sikkim. The combined streams meet at Bindu to form the Jaldhaka River, thus forming a riverine boundary with India and Bhutan in the left bank. The main tributaries that join the river in its right bank are the Murti, the Naksal Khola, the Sutunga and the Jarda in the lower reach. The Diana, Rehti-Duduya and Mujnai are the main left bank tributaries.
The river flows through the three North Bengal districts of Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Bihar. Jaldhaka River The entire watershed is the most fertile agricultural zone along with the Teesta Basin. The upper course is famous for crops like ginger, medicinal herbs and fruits like oranges and pomegranate. Jaldhaka River The middle course comprising Jalpaiguri district is entirely tea and corn dominated and the lower course is dominated by rice, jute and tobacco. Jaldhaka River The inter-river formed lands are cultivated with crops like bamboo and mat sticks. In the lower basin, the inter-river lands are cultivated with banana.Jaldhaka River
The river enters Bangladesh at Ghoksadanga district to meet the Brahmaputra or the Jamuna as it is known there.

Jaldhaka river The journey towards the serene is filled with a pictorial landscape roaring river
Jaldhaka river in west Bengal is truly beautiful. It's my favorite place as it gives a glimpse of paradise. The journey towards the serene place Jaldhaka is filled with pictorial landscape from the age-old bridge above the roaring river Teesta to the dense forest area, a little pink, blue, green and yellow cottages dot the roadside and hill slopes. All of them have vibrant flower gardens. You can visit Jaldhaka park also. Prayer flags blow in the wind and wildflowers grow on the hill slopes while the river rushes below. There's no big market, no concrete buildings, no hooting cars making the ride towards Jaldhaka an unforgettable experience. Situated near the Indo-Bhutan border, Jaldhaka is the first large settlement which can be reached after crossing the dense forest of Chapramari, the oldest forest reserve in West Bengal. It has been famous among travelers for the scenic beauty and serene ambiance which it offers. Along with the mesmerizing view of the riverside, there are many places nearby Jaldhaka which has allured travelers towards it. Jaldhaka Hydel Project on the river Jaldhaka being one of them. There are many routes in Jaldhaka through the thick forest area surrounding Jaldhaka which are used for trekking by the adventurer traveling to Jaldhaka, the most famous trek being towards Today and Tangata leading trekkers towards Neora valley national park. Tourists can also visit nearby places like Jhallong and Paren to relish the true beauty of Dooars region by camping along the riverbank of Jaldhaka in Jhalong or go on a jungle safari in the lush Gorumara or Chapramari which are on an easily accessible distance. Far from the hassle of rambunctious city life, set at the heart of the Jaldhaka River this quaint river valley Jaldhaka offers the most awe-inspiring backdrop view of the mountain range which has mesmerized many travelers leaving them to spellbound after witnessing it. I am done with my Jaldhaka river camp booking, did you?

#Bindu
A small village at an altitude of 600m or about 2000 feet, on the India-Bhutan border, Bindu is famous for its cardamom plantation, pristine nature and river Jaldhaka. The place has come up as a popular offbeat tourist destination of Dooars. Bindu is scenically placed in Kalimpong district among the high mountains all around with Jaldhaka River flowing through the valley making a natural border between Bhutan and India.
Bindu is where the Jaldhaka Dam is located, it is one of the oldest Hydro-electric projects between India and Bhutan. Tourists are not allowed to visit the Dam site but can see it from a distance. Three streams namely Dudh khola, Bindu Khola and Jaldhaka has met at the dam site. The dam used to create substantial electricity but due to heavy silting over the years, the project is said to have become sick now. However the site remains a major attraction for tourists.
With the increasing importance of Gorumara as the tourism hub of Dooars, Bindu has also become part of a day tour for visitors to Gorumara. The distance between Gorumara forest and Bindu is about 40 to 60 kms depending on which part of the forest you are coming from. Since Gorumara safaris are mostly in the early morning or late afternoon, tourists find it convenient to have a day tour in between. Most of our package tours of Gorumara are organised in similar fashion.
Getting There
The 110 km drive from Siliguri / NJP to Bindu winds up through the undulating slopes of Dooars covered with lush green tea garden and forests. You can also travel to Bindu from Malbazar which has stoppage of a number of trains and is about 47 kms away.
Nearest Airport is Bagdogra at a distance of about 115 kms.
Where to Stay
Accommodation in Bindu is available at a few budget hotels that offer basic but homely atmosphere. Humro Home Paren is arguably the best place to stay in Bindu – Jhalong – Paren area. The small eco-resort is about 6 kms from Bindu Dam and about 3 kms from Jhalong market. For more information about this accommodation, you may send us a query by filling the form below, or visit Humro Home website linked above.
You may also choose to stay at Paren or Jhalong. There is a WBFDC tourist accommodation at Jhalong where one may stay.
Around Bindu
Bindu is not a typical tourist destination with many sightseeing options. Here you would probably spend more time soaking your leg in the cold water of Jaldhaka river or walking in the villages or chatting up a local tribesman.
A visit to Todey (1500m) and Paren from Bindu is worth experiencing for the unspoiled natural environment and innocent village people. The Todey Tangta Khasmahal area is the last motorable place in this area close to Bhutan border. The area used to produce a lot of cardamom in the past but the production has come down in recent years.
About 10 kms before Bindu is the location of Jhalong. From here you may visit Rango forest uphill.

Dooars are the foothills of eastern Himalayas in North East India. The Place is the gateway to Bhutan from India. Famous for natural beauty it is one of the most popular tourist destinations of West Bengal.
In our opinion it is better to start your journey from Rajabhatkhawa. Rajabhatkhawa is considered as the gateway to Bengal Dooars.
By train reach New Jalpaiguri station or Alipurduar Junction first.
By air reach Bagdogra airport.
The distance of Rajabhatkhawa from NJP is 171 Km and from Bagdogra is 183.4 km. It will take around 3-4 hours to reach Rajabhatkhawa from NJP or Bagdogra. Car rate is around Rs 2500.
From Alipurduar the distance of Rajabhatkhawa is 14.3 Km and it will take 30 mins to reach Rajabhatkhwa from Alipurduar. Taxi fare is Rs 250 approx.
So it is better to avail a train that directly reaches Alipurduar. In that case instead of NJP you get down at Alipurduar.
After NJP the train moves through the forests of Dooars to reach Alipurduar. This is one of the best train routes in India and needs a special mention here. In our opinion book kachankanya from Sealdha(Kolkata) to experience this fascinating train route.
To book your train tickets online, please log on to
For flight booking log on to various online flight booking websites.
On day 1 go for local sightseeing around Rajabhatkhawa.
