A day spent in the Tal Chappar Blackbuck Sanctuary , Rajasthan
Do check out the short video and appreciate the bio diversity of Rajasthan. I have not added any music to keep the sounds real !
It's 9:00 a.m. in the quiet Tal Chappar blackbuck sanctuary. I am the only person to roam the vast expanses of this sanctuary on foot on this day. There were a few travelers on safari jeeps. But I chose long punishing hours of walking instead. Saving money is secondary here....I chose the path less taken to freeze beautiful moments like this.
The view from my #SoulWindow is Lucky

Jawai river, a tributary of Luni river. With the same name, a village also situated near to the dam and a railway station on Ajmer-Ahmedabad route. It comes under Sumerpur Tehsil of Pali district in Rajasthan.
The dam is situated near Sumerpur town in Pali District of Rajasthan state in India. The dam was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur. the work started on 12 May 1946 and it got completed in 1957. Total expenditure was Rupees 2 crore 7 Lakhs. The dam has capacity of 7887.5 million cubic feet and covers an area of 102,315 acres (414.05 km2) of cultivable command area.[1] Its height is about 61.25 feet (18.67 m). Sei dam and Kalibor dam are the feeder dams of the Jawai dam.
Besides being a Winter paradise for migratory birds,[citation needed] it is the main water supply source for Jodhpur city and parts of Pali district. If there is sufficient water in the dam, then some villages of Jalore district and Pali district get water for irrigation from the Jawai dam, which was the main aim in making this dam.
JAWAI THE LEOPARD HILLS OF INDIA - The Jawai hills located in
the Pali district of Rajasthan are one of the locations which offer rare sights of leopards roaming freely out in the open. Also known as the leopard hills, these are surrounded by Jawai Bandh and grasslands while the area is enclosed by the Aravali range. Considered among one of the lesser known tourist destinations, this place deserves much more attention than it gets.
These hills were shaped by lava millions of years ago and now the natural caves house leopards and other wild animals of the area. the leopards of Jawai not only live together but also in harmony with humans which clearly contradicts that the big cats are solitary animals. It’s one of the best places where you can easily spot a leopard during the day.
Apart from the leopard safari, the place is also known for bird watching as the Jawai dam is home to several migratory birds. The Jawai Hills Leopard Sanctuary, Kambeshwar Ji Leopard Sanctuary, and Jawai Dam Crocodile Sanctuary, all are located around Jawai. The jungles are abode to several wild animals like wolf, jackals, striped hyenas, wild cats, and Chinkaras. These unexplored wildlife sanctuaries of Jawai are relatively more popular among foreign tourists.
Apart from spotting leopards and other wild animals, there is a temple named DevGiri built in the caves. This temple is dedicated to Kalka Devi and its name translates to God’s Own Hills. Leopards are often seen roaming around the caves and stairs of the temple, a rare sight to capture in your camera.
Jawai is a unique, mystifying place which stands as a testimony to the harmony between animals and humans. The fact that leopards of Jawai exhibit an uncommon behavior makes it all the more fascinating. There are several safari camps for those who wish to take a stroll around the jungles and witness the wilderness of Jawai. Besides, you can also peek into the lives of the rural populace, the herds grazing in the fields, and the picturesque location which is a treat to the eyes.
So next time you take a trip to Rajasthan, don't forget to include Jawai in your list of places to visit in Pali. It’s a perfect destination providing solitude and natural beauty in a place away from the artificial and busy lifestyle of cities.
