Ross Hill Wines, a Winery in Sydney for Wine Tour or for Wine Tasting
Ross Hill Wines is a family run operation established in 1994 by Peter and Terri Robson with son James and his wife Chrissy now leading the reins. It is the first Australian winery to be certified under the NCOS Carbon Neutral Program. The two vineyards, Wallace Lane & Griffin Road, are planted in mature basalt soils at high altitudes that carry through into the wines. Varieties planted include Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Their Cellar Door is located at the end of Wallace Lane in the cool climate region of Orange in the Central West of NSW.

Wine Week 128: That Shaw is a good Chardonnay!
Not that long ago Chardonnay was all the rage. But winemakers started churning out wines that tasted more like oak than they did fruit. As a consequence, the wine public turned its nose up at the one time powerhouse white grape and looked elsewhere for a refreshing tipple. But things have changed! There's now a new style of chardonnay, and loads of wineries are trying to mimic the style. But this week we look at the original, the chardonnay that started the revival - the Shaw and Smith M3. As well we also check out two more South Australian offerings. Both are shiraz, while one is from a well established producer in McLaren Vale, while the other is from a young winery. Both are rippers!

Ep 9 Wine of the Week 2013 Eldorado Road Quasimodo Shiraz Durif Nero d'Avola
Some wines just work.
This for me is one those ‘sweet spot’ wines that just ticks so many boxes. Smashable, interesting, versatile, well made, well packaged and brilliantly priced… tick tick tick tick tick tick!
We’re big fans of what the Dahlenburg family are doing down at Eldorado Road, and this is one of the area’s more unique drops. A creative blend of Shiraz, Durif and Nero d’Avola from the towns of Glenrowan, Rutherglen and Eldorado respectively, ‘Quasimodo’ is all about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
And that it is - it’s richly flavoured but seamlessly balanced and awfully difficult to put down!
The 2012 vintage scored fantastic reviews from James Halliday (96 points) and Campbell Mattinson (93 points), and the 2013 looks every bit another winner.
Less than 200 dozen in existence and such very good value at under $30. We can’t recommend Quasimodo highly enough.

INSIDE A GRAPES FARM
The best part of my La Union trip? That last stop at Gapuz Grapes Farm! We picked grapes, ate a ton of them freshly plucked, and then took home several kilos, ang mura kasi :) We also had late lunch in here where they served really delicious local dishes.
But what made it extra special was the very welcoming people behind Gapuz Grapes Farm. They stayed with us the entire afternoon, sharing stories, joking around, sharing laughs. The made us feel like family, gusto na nga nila ampunin si James :))
And on the background, they played chill music, from Bruno Mars to old music I can only describe as retro. We also did some biking around using the bike they lent us. You can reach the beach from the farm and we wanted to bike to there, only we didn't because the road was muddy, it rained the night before. But on that day, on that fine, fine day, it was sunny. We were there for hours, time runs slow when you live the porch life.
MESSAGE: Kuya Jojo, in our next visit, grapes shake please! :)

IWR 7: 2015 Journey Wines Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia
Each year there are newer wine labels that break through from relative obscurity to be adored by the masses. For me, the Journey Wines 2015 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir was the breakthrough wine of 2016. Momentum started when the wine won gold at the RASV Royal Melbourne Wine Show (equivalent of receiving a nomination for an Oscar). The wine then received a host of great reviews including respected wine scribes such as Mike Bennie (think official selection at the Cairns Film Festival) and Huon Hooke (think Critics Choice Award).
In pondering these accolades, I wondered what a consumer would do with such information. I realised that often, someone buying a wine on the back of a review expects the wine to be amazing. If they do not enjoy the wine, they may stomp their feet and state that the reviewer got it 'so wrong'.
As such, the main purpose of this video is to propose that breakthrough wines, such as this Journey Wines Pinot Noir, are generally very good examples of the variety in the region it was grown. As a consumer, you can purchase the wine knowing it is a very good example and then see if the style fits with what you enjoy and your palate.
