It was where Captain Cook ran aground and the James Cook Museum still to this day holds the original anchor from The Endeavor. The waterways are crystal clear and is a must for all avid fishermen. Every year the small Cape York, Queensland, town of Cooktown carries out a reenactment of Captain James Cook's beaching of the ship Endeavour in June 1770...the ship was damaged when it hit the Great Barrier Reef. This cannon firing in carried out at the end of the week long festivities. The actual firing of the cannon was a raffle prize, the proceeds to charity..the winner was a lady from Cairns.

Originally located in Yorkshire, England, and built by the parents of Captain James Cook, the cottage was brought to Melbourne by Sir Russell Grimwade in 1934. Astonishingly, each brick was individually numbered, packed into barrels and then shipped to Australia.
