The Funeral of Maurice Rogers
Maurice LeRoy Rogers, age 90 (10 months and 2 days), departed this life on Monday, December 10, 2018 in his home in Clinton, Iowa. His funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the York Community Congregational Church, Thomson, Illinois. His burial took place in Woodland Cemetery, rural Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Online condolences may be left at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.

Senior Services Cuts Thanksgiving Meal Program
By: Brendan Cullerton, Multimedia Journalist
Senior Services of Central Illinois said Tuesday they will not be carrying out their annual holiday meal delivery program.
Director Karen Schainkel said the lack of a state budget means the organization is missing out on a lot of funds, and the program is very expensive.
She said the holiday season is especially difficult on seniors.
It gets into the winter months when the heating and electric bills get higher, and so the food bills are going to have to become smaller, so they're going to have to make choices of what they're going to do so they come to us.
Thanksgiving baskets will continue to go to Senior Services clients, but not the general population like they normally do. Christmas baskets have been cancelled altogether as of now.
There are other options for those in need of a meal. Springfield's Central Baptist Church said they will be giving out 1,000 meals on Thanksgiving.

The Creole Affair: The Slave Rebellion that Led the U.S. and Great Britain to the Brink of War
Author Arthur Downey discusses the most successful slave rebellion in American history. Held against their will aboard the Creole–a slave ship on its way from Richmond to New Orleans in 1841–the rebels seized control of the ship and changed course to the Bahamas. Because the Bahamas were subject to British rule of law, the slaves were eventually set free, and their presence on foreign soil sparked one of America's most contentious diplomatic battles with the United Kingdom. A book signing follows the program.
34 family members arrested in drug bust; $400k in cocaine seized
ELYRIA, Ohio - Elyria Police, Lorain Police and the Lorain County Sheriff's Department arrested 34 people—all related to each other in some way—in connection with $400,000 of cocaine seized.
The investigation started last year and ramped up in the past two months, culminating in the arrests Friday, March 13 and Monday, March 16, investigators said during a press conference Wednesday.
Authorities seized 3.4 kilos of cocaine, worth $400,000, five guns and $85,000 in cash.
The leaders of what's been dubbed the Burns, Milton and Tillman Drug Trafficking Organization by authorities are Jarvis Burns, 33, of Sheffield Lake, who paid for the cocaine, and his cousin Travis Milton, 32, of Elyria, who orchestrated large-scale buys from two dealers in Cleveland.
The large-scale transactions were at Burns' and Milton's grandmother Grace Milton's home on Tattersal Court in Elyria.
They bought $43,000 of cocaine from Christopher Craig, 43 and Bernard Washington, 44, both of Cleveland, investigators said.
