Jameson Irish Whisky Bow St., Dublin, Ireland
The John Jameson and Son Irish Whiskey company was formally established in 1810 when John Jameson and his son (also John Jameson) took ownership
of the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin which had originally been built by his wife's cousins the Steins in 1780. Jameson was a Scottish lawyer from
Alloa in Clackmannanshire who had married Margaret Haig, a sister of the Haig brothers who owned the Haig distilleries. Margaret Haig was a first
cousin of the Steins, a Scottish distilling family, also from Clackmannanshire, with significant distilling interests in Scotland and Dublin. On his
marriage to Margaret Haig in 1786, John Jameson moved with his new wife to Dublin to manage the Stein's Bow Street Distillery (which had been
established in 1780) for Margaret's Stein uncle. This explains the use of the year 1780 in Jameson marketing as the Bow Street Distillery was where
Jameson Irish Whiskey was born. Portraits of John and Margaret Jameson by Sir Henry Raeburn are in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland.
As well as Jameson Original, the Jameson Reserves include:
Jameson 12 Year Old Special Reserve (Formerly known as Jameson 1780)
Jameson 12 Year Old Distillery Reserve is available at their two visitor centres in Ireland and also available from their online shop.
Jameson Gold Reserve (the only expression of Jameson that uses virgin American oak).
Jameson 18 Year Old Limited Reserve
Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve (Jameson's oldest and rarest whiskey components).
Jameson Signature Reserve (exclusive to travel retail and duty-free shops around the world).
Jameson Select Reserve Black Barrel (available in limited quantities in the US; known as Small Batch outside the US).
Jameson Caskmates (finished in stout-seasoned barrels)

Jameson Whiskey Distillery Tour Dublin Ireland
Jameson was kind enough to offer us a private tour of their retired distillery in Dublin Ireland. We're joined by Niall who walked us through the history, passion, hard work, and dedication, that made Jameson the brand it is today.
The atmosphere in the lobby is intoxicatingly welcoming. As you walk in, you're surrounded with architectural wonders from the ceiling to the floor.
To the right is an astounding bar area filled with brick and character. To the left, is a gift shop and a fill your own bottle of limited edition Jameson pouring straight from the cask.
The floor filled with glass showing the old tunnels and runways in the basement of the distillery.
As you walk through the history of the craft, you start with the grains. It was backbreaking work to move and prepare the grains to start germinating. They were soaked for two days before being laid out in a hot humid room to trick them into thinking it's sprint time to germinate.
Then germinated grains and un germinated grains are mixed and ground into grist. Then this grist is added to water and beat around in the mash tun to release their natural sugars. When that's complete, the mash is moved over to the wash-back where they sit for the next 60 hours. Yeast is added and the mixture begins producing alcohol.
After the 60 hours, the mixture is ready to be distilled. Jameson had decided at that time it would add a third distillation process before their whiskeys were added to the casks. Then, after the whiskey has aged, it's time to blend the sherry, port, and bourbon cask whiskey.
As you walk through the history of the craft, you admire how much thought, work, and patience would go into making every bottle. Finally before you go, a sampling of a few different whiskeys, and finally you can sit and enjoy a Jameson prepared the way you want it.
This place is a must to visit if you're traveling!

Jameson Distillery Bow Street – leading the way in Irish whiskey tourism
The surge in Irish whiskey tourism has been remarkable in recent years. Over 600,000 international visitors now come to Ireland each year to enjoy Irish whiskey visitor experiences. Jameson Distillery Bow Street, in the heart of Dublin, has been to the forefront of this renaissance and it has recently invested €11 million in its tourism experience. The Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (ITIC) met with Ray Dempsey, General Manager of Jameson Distillery Bow Street, to hear about the exciting developments at the revamped visitor attraction, Ireland’s potential to become the world’s leading whiskey tourism destination, and the importance of destination marketing to Irish tourism.
Jameson Distillery Bow St. (in Dublin) / ジェムソン旧蒸留所 (アイルランド)
It's one of many tourist sites in Dublin, Ireland, and the original site where Jameson Irish Whisky was distilled until 1971. Tours are conducted at the site and include whisky tasting sessions. There are several different tours with different prices. The one I took was a basic one and included a drink at bar in addition to a whisky tasting session. The drink I had was a whisky highball (rye and ginger).

Centuries ago, John Jameson purchased the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin, Ireland. Jameson Whiskey was born shortly thereafter, and the world has never quite been the same. Today, if you’re in Ireland doing some sightseeing, the Old Jameson Distillery is a popular spot to explore. Even if you’re not a fan of their fabled whiskey, you’re bound to find the distillery an interesting stop on your jaunt to the Emerald Isle.
Tours of the Old Jameson Distillery are available for those curious about the brand’s history. You can wander through a recreation of the distillery during its earlier years, learn about the process required to make the famous liquor, and, of course, enjoy a sample of whiskey at the end of the tour. If you still haven’t had enough Jameson after the tour, stick around; the Old Jameson Distillery houses a restaurant and three bars, so you can responsibly enjoy a little more of its prize product. If you’re a whiskey aficionado, try the comparison tasting to sample the difference between whiskeys of various nations, or just sit back in the restaurant and enjoy watching the activity in the distillery.

OLD JAMESON WHISKEY DISTILLERY TOUR IN DUBLIN IRELAND-Sláinte!
We took the Old Jameson Whiskey Distillery tour on Bow St. in Dublin, Ireland where we learned the interesting history of the Old Jameson Distillery, including learning about its founder, John Jameson, and his sons. We also were shown how Jameson Whiskey is produced. Of course, the highlight of the tour was participating in some taste testing and getting a free glass of whiskey. I also bought a bottle of Jameson to bring home. As they say in Ireland: Sláinte!
