A Walk Through Accra's Jamestown, Ghana
We barely arrived in Accra but we did what we always do, dive right into it. On this day we set out to see the Accra lighthouse, Jamestown a neighborhood which is the birthplace of Accra and too see the fishing village which is situated below the lighthouse.
Read all about this tour:
We had a rough start when we first arrived but we will tell you about it in the full article about that day which is coming up soon. We almost considered to leave since we lost all interest at the beginning. But I'm glad we stayed, it would have been such a mistake. More about it later, though
But for now, please come along with us on this walk through Accra's oldest neighborhood.

Thanks to Majeed and Ernest for taking me on this extreme Ghanaian street food tour of Accra. We had an incredible time eating and exploring Accra!
Jamestown, Accra, Ghana - We started off this Ghanaian street food tour of Accra in Jamestown, along the coast in Accra. The neighborhood is home mostly to a fishing community, but they also are known for having some of the best boxers in Ghana. We walked around Jamestown, and tried a few snacks and drinks along the way.
Palm wine - 2 GHC ($0.40)
Egg - 1 GHC ($0.20) per egg
Tigernut milk - 2 GHC ($0.40)
Kenkey (Kenkey - West African staple made from ground corn) and fried fish - After walking around Jamestown, we found a small restaurant to eat kenkey, a common Ghanaian staple made from corn, and here, eaten with fried fish. The restaurant was awesome, and the owners were very friendly. We ordered some food, and also had the chance to watch some of the cooking production. This was probably my favorite meal of this entire Ghanaian street food tour.
Total price - 20 GHC ($4.30) for all
We continued eating our way through Accra, here are a few more of the meals and snacks we tried:
Kelewele and gizzard - 5.5 GHC ($1.20)
Coconut - 2 GHC ($0.40) per coconut
Mama Vee Waakye - We couldn’t have an ultimate Ghana food tour without eating waakye, and so Majeed took me to one of his favorite spots. Waakye is a beloved Ghanaian food, a mix of many different things, and it’s incredible delicious. It wa also a huge plate!
Price - 13 GHC ($2.80)
Hwe Nea Nyame Aye Chop Bar (translated to “See what God has done” restaurant) - For one of our final meals of the day, we stopped at one of their favorite local neighborhood restaurants to eat fufu, along with massively giant jungle snails. They were delicious.
Price - 26 GHC ($5.60)
Chinchinga - Many places around the world offer grilled meat on skewer over charcoal, and in Ghana they are called chinchinga. Especially if you enjoy meat, you can’t miss them.
Price - 3 GHC ($0.60) per stick
It was an incredible day of street food in Accra, Ghana, West Africa. Thanks again to Majeed and Ernest for taking me around!

Year of Return: NAACP Jamestown to Jamestown Ghana tour
NAACP commemorated the Year of Return with Jamestown to Jamestown Trip. The delegation numbering about 300 embarked on a memorable trip from Jamestown Virginia to Jamestown Ghana to commemorate the 400th anniversary since the first enslaved Africans arrived in Jamestown Virginia on August 20, 1619.
The delegation met with President Akuffo Addo, visited cultural and historical sites, and was described by Derrick Johnson (NAACP . President) as a reconnection trip to help understand the journey that brought them to America in the first place.

Black Panter Boxing School in Jamestown, Accra - Ghana
We got invited to visit the Black Panter (yes, without an h) Boxing Gym in Jamestown to watch a training session of some upcoming Ghanaian Boxing Champions. The gym also functions as a community center, school and of course as a boxing ring.
If you watch the video you might agree, some of the kids have some real boxing talent and I can see that some of them will rise on top and could even become world boxing champions.

This partnership with Ghana marks the “Year of Return” – a landmark spiritual and birth-right journey inviting the Global African family, home and abroad, to commemorate the 400-year anniversary of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. On August 18, 2019 more than 250 participants embarked on this journey that started in Jamestown, Virginia and will end in the Jamestown district of Accra, Ghana. A Walk Through Accras Popular Neighborhood Of Oso - Ghana Travel Vlog
After exploring the famous Oxford Street:
in Accra we set out to explore the neighborhood which surrounds the street, which is called Osu. Even though we were not a big fan of Oxford, we do see the appeal of Osu. Quiet streets, central and tons of restaurants, bars and stores nearby. This area is very popular with foreigners and we also loved all these rooftop bars.
We're considering right now to maybe spend a few days in Osu before we head back to Spain. We love Adabraka (where we live now) but it would be great to get the feel for another Accra neighborhood.
