Jama Masjid (Champaner - Gujarat - India)
(EN) Champaner is a historical city in the state of Gujarat, in western India. It is located in Panchmahal district, 47 kilometres from the city of Vadodara. The city was briefly the capital of Gujarat.
It was founded by Vanraj Chavda, the most prominent king of the Chavda Kingdom, in the 8th century. He named it after the name of his friend and general Champa, also known later as Champaraj. By the later 15th century, the Khichi Chauhan Rajputs held Pavagadh fort above the town of Champaner. The young Sultan of Gujarat, Mahmud Begada, deciding to attack Champaner, started towards it with his army on 4 December 1482. After defeating the Champaner army, Mahmud captured the town and besieged Pavagadh, the well-known hill-fortress, above Champaner, where king Jayasimha had taken refuge. He captured the Pavagadh fort on 21 November 1484, after a siege of 20 months. He then spent 23 years rebuilding and embellishing Champaner, which he renamed Muhammadabad, after which he moved the capital there from Ahmedabad. The town finally succumbed to attacks from the Mughal Emperor Humayun in 1535.
Champaner is today the site of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, which UNESCO designated a World Heritage Site in 2004.
Sultan Begada also built a magnificent Jama Masjid in Champaner, which ranks amongst the finest architectural edifices in Gujarat. It is an imposing structure on a high plinth, with a central dome, two minarets 30 meters in height, 172 pillars, seven mihrabs, and carved entrance gates with fine stone jalis.
The 2001 film Lagaan is set in Champaner.
Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is located in Panchmahal district in Gujarat, India. It was inscribed in 2004. There is a concentration of largely unexcavated archaeological, historic and living cultural heritage properties cradled in an impressive landscape which includes prehistoric (chalcolithic) sites, a hill fortress of an early Hindu capital, and remains of the 16th century capital of the state of Gujarat. The site also includes, among other vestiges, fortifications, palaces, religious buildings, residential precincts, agricultural structures and water installations, from the 8th to the 14th centuries. The Kalikamata Temple on top of the Pavagadh Hill is considered to be an important shrine, attracting large numbers of pilgrims throughout the year. The site is the only complete and unchanged Islamic pre-Mughal city. (wikipedia)

The Jami Masjid Mosque (Ahmedabad - Gujarat - India)
(EN) The Jami Masjid of Ahmedabad is one of the biggest and oldest mosques of India, built by a Bahmani ruler Ahmed Shah I (1411-1442), the founder of Ahmedabad, in 1423. One of the major tourist attractions of Gujarat, Jami Masjid is known for its fine and amazing architecture. The Mosque has a total of 260 pillars supporting 15 domes at different elevations. The Jami Masjid also had tall minarets, which were destroyed in an earthquake.
Centered on a spacious 75 x 66 meters marble courtyard with entrances on three sides - west, south and north, the Jami Mosque is regarded as one of the most superb and imposing structures of its class in the world. The architecture of the Jami Mosque shows distinctive Hindu and Jain influence, clearly visible on the decorations of walls and the niches of the mosque. One of the distinct features of this Mosque is its royal gallery with beautiful and intricate stonework. There is also a long rectangular ablution tank in the center. The prayer hall of the mosque is a rectangular area with five symmetrical domes. The central Mihrab (position indicating the direction of the Holy Mecca) of the mosque has inscriptions commemorating its completion on January 4, 1424, by Sultan Ahmad Shah I. (Tourism of Gujarat)

THE UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE || JAMI MASJID || CHAMPANER || PAVAGADH || GUJARAT TOURISM
Jami Masjid (also known as, Jama Masjid; meaning public mosque) in Champaner, Gujarat state, western India, is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is among the 114 monuments there which are listed by the Baroda Heritage Trust. It is located about 150 feet (46 m) east of the city walls (Jahdnpandh), near the east gate.
The mosque dates to 1513; construction was carried out over 25 years. It is one of the most notable monuments built by Sultan Mahmud Begada. The Mughal architecture is said to have drawn from the architecture of the Sultanates, which is a blend of Hindu religious connotations and workmanship with Muslim ethos; the large domes are indicative of such a mix.Restoration works were carried out in the 1890s.
It has a blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture, preserving the Islamic ethos, and is considered one of the finest mosques in Western India with its elegant interiors. The ornamentation of the surface areas of the mosque and tomb consists of symbols of motifs of the Sun, diamonds, pots and vines, and lotus insignia which were used in the earlier temples; the artists of the region who worked on these monuments had imbibed their craftsmanship from their forefathers and they were not sectarian in character as they worked on assignments given by Hindus, Muslims or Jains. This mosque had three oblong mural plaques, one at the top of the pulpit and the other two on the sides, with engravings of hymns from the Koran.
The building is two-storied, with both Islamic and Hindu styles of decoration. The plan is similar to that of the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque in Ahmedabad; it is rectangular with the entrance on the east side. There is a portico which has a large dome built over a podium. There are steps to the mosque from northern and southern directions. Tall octagonal minarets 30 metres (98 ft) in height are situated on both sides of the main carved entrance.A typical Gujarat style of architecture is seen in the form of oriel windows with distinctive carvings on the outer surface. The carved roof contains several domes, and the courtyard is large. There are seven mihrabs and the entrance gates are carved and fitted with fine stone jalis.
Multiple prayer halls are separated by almost 200 pillars. The main prayer hall has eleven domes, with the central dome, a double-storied structure, built on pillars in an arcade form. The ruler's prayer hall is separated from the main area by jalis. There is a double clerestory in one of the domes. Other interior features include an arcuate maqsurah screen, trabeate hypostyle lwan, double square side wings, zanana enclosure, and screened off northern mihrab.
Tombs have been built adjacent to the mosque, invariably to a square plan with columns and domes erected over them, and also embellished with decorations. An ablution tank of octagonal kund appearance[8] is near the building; it was used for rainwater harvesting and washing before prayer. The mosque has become a place of pilgrimage for those who seek blessings from the pir who is buried in one corner of the garden.

Old Masjid Of Champaner | Gujarat Tourism
Jama Masjid in Champaner, Gujarat state, western India, is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is among the 114 monuments there which are listed by the Baroda Heritage Trust.
Jami Masjid, also known as Jama Masjid of Champaner is located about 150 feet (46 m) east of the city walls. Dating back to the 15th century, it is widely considered as one of the finest mosques in western India.
This edifice is two storied and is a symbol of both Islamic and Hindu(specifically Gujarati) styles of architecture. Like the other mosques around the world, the Jami Masjid also has a very minutely designed entrance which is flanked by two towering octagonal minarets. Along with modern techniques of architecture, this mosque also reflects how the architects used modern techniques to cultivate rainwater harvesting systems. One of the minarets is a tad bit damaged. This is not because it has been worn out but because of an intentional gun firing in 1812 by a Scindia Governor named Patankar. The monument has some very majestic artwork on its symmetric pillars and all this has been conserved very well.

Jami (Jamma) Masjid Khambhat (Cambay) Gujarat Heritage Stone Mosque Shahi Pattharwali Masjid
Build in 1325 A.D in the reign of Sultan Muhammad Bin Tughlag (1324-1351) A.D
Tughlag Dynasty period was 1321 to 1413 A.D in India.
The mosque's architecture marks the evolution of Indo-Muslim Architecture. Its architectural features do not display any minaret but torans are seen in the central arches of the mosque which represent architecture of the Gujarat Sultanate.
The interior part of the mosque has a colonnaded open courtyard which is built with 100 columns supporting roofs built from ruins of Hindu and Jain temples. The prayer hall has many compartments topped by low domes, which are unique and are different from those which crown the mehrabs niches. The domes are provided with latticed windows made in the architectural style of Gujarat. The columns are set in two rows with each row consisting of 26 columns forming a passage that separates the wall in the front from the first row. In addition, there are eight rows formed by six pillars in each row, which are next to the facade; these result in the formation of 14 chambers and each chamber is topped by a dome. There are arcaded entrances to the aisle of the mosque which are provided with a flat roof. In the middle portion of the mosque which hides the domes of the roof, there are jambs which rise to a height of about 40 feet (12 m) and these are topped by sharp finials.
