Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Janet's Foss
Janet's Foss is a small waterfall in the vicinity of the village of Malham, North Yorkshire, England. It carries Gordale Beck over a limestone outcrop topped by tufa into a deep pool below. The pool was traditionally used for sheep dipping, an event which took on a carnival air and drew the village inhabitants for the social occasion.
The name Janet (sometimes Jennet) is believed to refer to a fairy queen held to inhabit a cave at the rear of the fall. Foss is a Nordic word for waterfall, still used in Scandinavia, and is presented in a number of cases in England as 'force'.
Janet's Foss was the location of the fictional Molkham Falls as featured in the 2006 independent British film, WATERFALL. Filming took place there in May 2006.

Click here: for full 25 minute video (including OS map and printable walk directions). A circular from Malham, taking in all the natural wonders the area has to offer. Malham is a small village in the Yorkshire Dales, but is a great draw amongst walkers, ornithologists and tourists alike, due to the easy accessibility of the natural wonders surrounding it. The walk starts in the village centre and follows Malham beck and then Gordale beck, before passing through a delightful wooded area to reveal Janet's Foss, a waterfall set in its own little amphitheatre. A few yards further on, Gordale Scar is reached, a gorge with limestone cliffs over 100m high. The walk retraces its steps to Gordale bridge and then on over a short climb to reach the limestone pavement above Malham Cove, used in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows film. After admiring the pavement, head down to the foot of the cove and away from it to reveal the cove in its full splendour. The cove is over 80m high and 300m high and once was the site of a waterfall higher than Niagara falls! The cove is a favourite with ornithologists, with the peregrine falcon a visitor here. From the cove, a gravelled path is followed back to the road, which leads through Malham back to the car park.

Another waterfall in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales of Malham filmed using Go-pro hero 2
Janet's Foss | Yorkshire Dales National Park | England | UK【SCENIC WALK】
【Janet's Foss】is a waterfall in Yorkshire Dales National Park. The only way to get there is on foot from the closest town Malham. It takes about 1 hour from Malham to the foss.
On the way to the foss, you might walk on the meadow, between trees, by the farm and see some cows, birds, livers and fields etc.
In winter, it snows and gets muddy. I went there a pair of walking shoes... it gets terribly soaked. You should take a pair of snow boots.
I'll upload another video about the place close to Janet's foss, it's called Malham Cove. The way from Malham to Janet's foss is connected to the way to Malham Cove. You can visit them at once if you have plenty of time.

Janet's Foss and Gordale Scar walk
Following a well-trodden path from Malham Village, this short walk (around 3 miles in total) passes some of Yorkshire's most spectacular scenery including the National Trust-owned Janet's Foss, and the breathtaking Gordale Scar. Jan Bibby (regional director for the National Trust) and Martin Davies (the National Trust's property manager in the Yorkshire Dales) follow the route and show us some of their highlights.

Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Malham Cove
Malham Cove is a limestone formation 0.6 miles (1 km) north of the village of Malham, North Yorkshire, England. The large, curved feature was formed by a waterfall carrying meltwater from glaciers at the end of the last Ice Age more than 12,000 years ago. Today it is a well-known beauty spot within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A large limestone pavement is above the cove.
Malham Cove was formed by a large Ice-age river that fell at this point as a cataract. The water drop was 80 m (260 ft) high and more than 300 m (980 ft) wide. The colossal amount of water flowing over the waterfall created the curved shape of the cove because the lip was more heavily eroded than the sides.
Today the water course is marked by a stream that flows out of Malham Tarn 1.5 mi (2.4 km) north of the cove. It becomes a subterranean stream at 'Water Sinks' about 1 mi (1.6 km) before the top of the cove. Another stream named Malham Beck emerges from a cave at the bottom of the cove. The two streams were once thought to be one and the same. However, experiments with dyes have shown that they are two separate waterways that go underground at different locations. Their paths cross without mixing behind the limestone cliff re-emerging a few miles apart. The experiments show that there is complex system of caves and tunnels within the limestone cliff. The system is estimated to be about 50,000 years old. Cave divers, entering the system through the cave at the base of the cove, have so far explored about 1 mi (1.6 km).
The cave systems usually carry away any waters before they reach the fall; however, Malham Cove temporarily became a waterfall for what is believed to be the first time in centuries on 6 December 2015, after heavy rainfall from Storm Desmond.

Malham Cove & Gordale Scar.... voted third best walk in UK!!
A short video of our amazing walk in the Yorkshire Dales....
A circular walk from Malham in the Yorkshire Dales. The walk initially passes by the picturesque Janet's Foss before reaching Gordale Scar. The water was very strong flowing down Gordale Scar however we decided to climb up anyways. At first there does not really appear to be a path up the waterfall, but as the waterfall is approached a sketchy path can be seen to the left of it, which climbs steeply and involves some scrambling. At the top the path swings around to the left and heads away from the valley below. Path eventually flattens and becomes grassier underfoot and easier to walk on, and then passes over a wall by way of a stone stile and continue on the same line following the sign for Malham Tarn 2 miles. Follow the wide grassy path between a series of large cairns interspaced every hundred or so yards, through the limestone outcrops. You will have an option to visit the tarn and loop back round towards the Footpath Malham Cove 1½ miles sign. The path pulls into the wall by the stile and continues down the right hand side of the wall into the dry valley which forms a little further down. Pass over either of the two stone stiles in the wall and on for the limestone pavement just ahead. Fifty yards past the stiles, there is a gap in the wall on the left and a stile. Here turn right and cross the limestone pavement above Malham Cove. Great care must be taken here crossing the clints and grikes of the limestone, and also in not going to near the edge of the 230 foot high cove. Location of Harry Potter scene in The Deathly Harrows. Down below can be seen the very well defined path back to Mallham.
Highly Recommend this Beautiful walk to all ages.
Peace,
ImoDave

YORKSHIRE DALES WALK FEATURING MALHAM, MALHAM COVE, MALHAM TARN AND GORDALE SCAR
Magnetism of Malhamdale
Filmed 7th September 2014
Running time: 17 minutes
It is the last day of my holiday in the Yorkshire Dales in September 2014. However, before I return home I spend the day in the lovely village of Malham. I go on a circular walk from the village that takes in Malham Cove and Malham Tarn. The walk also provides me with a challenge as I encounter the rather hazardous Gordale Scar.
Filmed in the Yorkshire Dales in the county of North Yorkshire featuring the area in and around Malham. Other locations include Malham Cove, Malham Tarn, Gordale Scar and Janet's Foss.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

Skipton, Malham and Janet's Foss - A Yorkshire Dales Daytrip
My friends and I took a trip around the Yorkshire Dales National Park in early June of 2011. The weather was fantastic, and I could not resist taking my camera out for a bit of a snap around. These are a collection of photos from that camera. The first section is the centre of Skipton with it's canal boats, then onto Malham village, where we encountered an old fashioned Blacksmith shop. Then up into the Dales themselves, onto Malham Cove and back down through Janet's Foss.

Janets Foss, Gordale Scar, Malham Tarn, Malham Cove
Lovely little walk starting from Malham, then heading up to Janets Foss and on to Gordale Scar where we climbed the waterfall. From here we walked to Malham Tarn and finally on to the limestone pavement at the top of Malham Cove before descending to the base and heading back to Malham for a well earned dinner.
