Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village (장생포 고래문화 마을)~ South Korea
Opened in 2015, Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village reproduces the old scene of a whale-catching fishing village through areas like Whale Plaza, Jangsaengpo Old Village, Prehistoric Whale Experience Garden, an aquatic botanical garden and other themed area as well as a sculpture park.
Main facilities include Jangsaengpo Old Village, nostalgia area and educational site showing a scene of life from the 1960-1970’s, Whale Sculpture Park, displaying real-sized whale sculptures for a unique experience, Whale Story Trail, storytelling photo zone related to whales, and Prehistoric Whale Experience Garden, outdoor educational place for Bangudae Petroglyphs and whale-catching murals.

Throughout history, whale hunting was a large part of the livelihood of Ulsan’s early inhabitants. Now dominated by manufacturing, Ulsan and its people are still very proud of their history of whaling and throw an annual celebration of it.
This weekend sees the return of the Ulsan Whale Festival, which saw its inception in 1995.
This years event begins June 7th through June 9th. For three days, a variety of events are planned around the Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Special Zone, beginning today.
Plenty of events are planned for this weekend, including daily and nightly musical concerts, a bodybuilding and best body contest, ice sculptures of whales, dance teams and a parade.
Admission to the festival is free.

South Korea's Moon declares quake-rattled city of Pohang special disaster zone

Once again we begin in Pohang.
The port city struck by an earthquake... a most rare phenomenon in South Korea.. is declared a special disaster zone today.
Meaning the region will receive various government subsidies and benefits for victims affected by last Wednesday's incident.
Moon Connyoung has our top story. The South Korean government has designated the quake-hit port city of Pohang in the nation's southeast as a special disaster zone.
During a weekly meeting with his top aides on Monday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in pledged all-out efforts to contain and prevent further damage from the recent series of earthquakes that rattled the nation's port city last week... which left dozens of people injured, thousands homeless and delaying, for the first time ever, the annual nationwide college entrance exam.

The government will mobilize all administrative resources available to ensure all damages are swiftly repaired.

The move means those living in the zone will now be eligible for a wide range of financial aid, tax cuts and compensation.

For now, recovery efforts and making sure the college scholastic aptitude test is carried out without a hitch take utmost priority.

Once those two are taken care of, we will conduct a full review of the nation's safety and disaster management measures.

The CSAT... considered crucial to ensuring a spot in one of the country's top universities and eventually securing a good job here in South Korea had originally been scheduled for last Thursday... the day after the 5-point-4 magnitude quake struck the city of Pohang... but later postponed for safety reasons.

밍크고래 불법 포획ㆍ유통 일당 검거…4명 구속
국제적인 멸종위기종인 밍크고래를 불법 포획해 판매한 일당이 붙잡혔습니다.
울산 중부경찰서는 밍크고래를 불법 포획하고 시중에 유통한 총책, 운반책, 식당업주 등 16명을 검거해 이 중 4명을 구속했다고 밝혔습니다.
울산 북구의 냉동창고에 보관 중이던 밍크고래 고기 27t, 약 40억원 상당을 압수했으며, 압수한 고래고기 상당수가 불법 포획한 것으로 추정하고 있습니다.
경찰은 포획선단을 추적하고 이들에게 고래를 공급받은 식당 등에 대해서도 수사를 확대할 예정입니다.
