Hakuba, located in the Northern Alps of Nagano Prefecture, is one of Japan's most well-known ski areas, which boasts exceptional quality snow and offers several large ski resorts to choose from.
During the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, Hakuba gained worldwide reputation as it hosted several olympic competitions, including alpine (downhill, super g, and combination) and nordic (ski jump and cross country) events. Today some of the olympic facilities are still in use, such as the Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium. There is also the Hakuba Olympic Village Memorial Hall, a small but interesting museum, located within walking distance from the ski jump. Hakuba can be reached relatively easily from Tokyo, and also from Nagoya and Kansai regions. While it is possible to do a day trip from Tokyo, Hakuba is best enjoyed by all-night skiing. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, there are some hot springs (onsen) available around town.
Twelve of the major resorts in Hakuba area have teamed up to offer the Hakuba Valley Ticket package, which gives discounts on multiple day lift tickets to be used at any of the participating resorts. Two 1-day tickets (valid over a three day period) cost 8700 yen, while three 1-day tickets (to be used over a five day period) cost 12,500 yen. A variety of other combination tickets are also available and some local hotels offer further discounts to staying guests.

下呂温泉 合掌村 旧大戸家 Gassho Village of Gero Onsen
2013年9月に岐阜県の下呂温泉の近くにある合掌村に立ち寄りました。その中でのひときわ大きな「旧大戸家住宅」の内部をご覧になれます。
旧大戸家住宅は現在の白川郷集落に天保4（1833）年から弘化3（1846）年まで13年をかけて建造されたものです。御母衣ダム建設（着工年：1957年）の際に集落が離散し、保存管理が困難であったものを、保存展示するためにこの合掌村に移築されたものです。平沢勝栄氏（自民党 衆議院議員）の生家でもあります。
合掌村の合掌の里は、白川郷などから移築した10棟の合掌家屋集落で、日本の原風景を再現。村内は「合掌の里」と「歳時記の森」の２つのゾーンで構成されており、それぞれに飛騨の生活文化と山野草をはじめ、さまざまな植栽などから日本の四季を感じることができます。
Gassho Village (Gassho-mura)
There are ten historical Gassho-style structures that include the old Ohdos folk museum designated as a nationally important cultural property. They were moved from the world heritage Shirakawa-go and reconstructed about 40 years ago.
One of the biggest historical Gassho-style houses which was first built in 1846 (Edo period). It took over thirteen years to build this unique four-story architecture.

Emerging from behind a curtain of mountains, to a hot springs oasis is truly Yufuin (由布院), Oita Prefecture, in Kyushu. It is located near Beppu, another famous hot springs resort in Oita Prefecture.
Visitors may be surprised when they first enter Yufuin. Mount Yufu with its twin peaks can be seen from almost every location in town, watching over the town residents. The walkways with the traditional onsen (hot springs) eateries will be encountered as well as many modern boutiques and cafes. Yet, there are horse (with tourists in their carriages) galloping through town. Yufuin is a combination of traditional onsen town meeting the 21st Century.
Visitors will find the Yufuin to be easy to explore. There are walkways throughout the town. Along the pathway, visitors can see art museums, boutiques and café, with beautiful Lake Kinrinko at the end of the walkway. There are shops around Lake Kinrinko for visitors to browse as well. There are rice fields and farm houses off the walkway showing a rural side to this town as well.
The lodging, hotels and ryokans (traditional inns) are not in one area, but spread out throughout the town. Visitors may wish to walk to other ryokans to bath in the onsen (hot springs bath) there as some ryokans allow non-guests to use their bathing facilities for a nominal fee.

The Zakimi Castle Ruins are located on a hill in central Okinawa Island. Only the stone walls remain, which visitors can ascend for nice views over the ruins and the surrounding area and as far as Shuri Castle in the distance. The castle is included as one of the UNESCO World Heritage designated Castles of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Zakimi Castle was built between 1416 and 1422 by the Chuzan Kingdom which ruled over central Okinawa Island. The castle served as a safeguard against rebels in the north. After the Chuzan Kingdom defeated the Hokuzan Kingdom in the north and eventually united the island into the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Next to the parking lot, there is a small museum with displays on local art, folkcraft, and history. The museum exhibits archaeological relics, dwellings, funerary customs and the war.

Access Information:
The Zakimi Castle Ruins are located in central Okinawa Island, about 25 kilometers north of Naha.
Via bus
1.From Naha Bus Terminal , board bus number 28 to Takashiho Iriguchi (高志保入口, 80 minutes, 1060 yen, 2-4 buses per hour), from where the castle ruins can be reached in a 20-30 minute walk.
2. There are infrequent 2.buses along line 29 that stop at Zakimi bus top (座喜味, 80 minutes, 1020 yen, 5-6 buses per day), a ten minute walk from the castle ruins.
